For anybody else who is literally in the eye of the storm. Am in Northern Ireland and it’s horrendous. I am normally a very calm, rational person but the sheer force of this storm is making me sick with anxiety. Power is out, our road is blocked by fallen trees and my friends roof has been partially ripped off her house.

That must be so frightening. I hope someone is with you.

Brownhairdontcare · 21/01/2024 23:19

That sounds very frightening- do you have candles or a torch? Things are always worse at night, in just a few hours the sky will get lighter and it'll be much less scary x x

DH is out trying to help clear trees so emergency services can get through as needed. There are power lines down in so many places.

Thinking of you all in NI. It doesn't feel like it now but it will pass (I remember the 1987 storm in Kent as a child and that was a loooong night)

LadyBird1973 · 21/01/2024 23:22

It's really scary. Hope you are okay

Thank you. Yes I have a torch and phone is well charged with a spare charged portable one. The noise is like nothing I’ve ever heard!

Am more shocked at my reaction to be honest-am normally a coper but this is something else! Think I’ve been a bit complacent with named storms before!

It is ramping up here in North Scotland. It sounds bad outside and we don't have it as bad as you, in Northern Ireland.
It feels like our house might get blown off the hillside. Mad that we have just got rid of piles of snow and now this. 😫

Datdamndamp · 21/01/2024 23:26

Hand to hold here. High winds and storms are scary.

Belindabelle · 21/01/2024 23:30

I am in east Scotland on holiday and it’s starting to get bad. My children, 26 and 18, are at home in west Scotland and it’s horrendous. I am worried that those lovely mature trees in my garden are going through the roof into DS1’s bedroom. Don’t think I will get much sleep tonight.

Belindabelle · 21/01/2024 23:32

Oh sorry @Ishaloadacrap I meant to say take care and stay safe. I really hate the wind.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/01/2024 23:33

Normal to be anxious/scared or fucking terrified in the wind you are getting. Good luck!

Where abouts in NI are you our of curiosity? I have to travel up early tomorrow morning for a hospital appointment and am a bit worried about the roads. I was in a red weather zone in Ireland and it wasn't too bad here I don't think. We lost power for about half an hour but other than that everything is still standing.

Shessyillinbed · 21/01/2024 23:36

Hold on tight everyone, I think there are fewer hours to go than we've had if that makes sense x

Jeevesnotwooster · 21/01/2024 23:39

Feeling for you. I'm usually very calm in storms (including a couple of hurricanes I've lived through overseas). But like you I'm feeling anxious. We are west coast of Scotland and wind is wild.

Mrsmch123 · 21/01/2024 23:39

I'm in Glasgow. We have the neighbours shed in our back and a tile has came of the roof and hit the car ffs whyyyyyy😫😫

anicecuppateaa · 21/01/2024 23:42

SE London and scared. Very windy and there is a huge tree in our garden that I vow to get chopped down every time there is a storm. Tomorrow I’m booking it in to be cut down. Scared shitless it is coming through the roof into the loft bedroom.

TinDogTavern · 21/01/2024 23:43

Handhold here. Sounds brutal where you are. Sometimes I think it's worse for copers (I'm one) when we do get knocked off kilter by something, because we're not expecting it. Hold on in there lovely x

Clafoutie · 21/01/2024 23:44

Hang in there OP, it will pass. I am feeling much the same. Flowers

Duckingfun · 21/01/2024 23:46

I’m in Norfolk which seems to be the best place to be looking at the weather warnings but it’s still quite scary.

mrsmacmc · 21/01/2024 23:47

Handhold here too OP and PP's. It's horrific scary tonight. Not heard such a menacing wind in a long time ❤️ usually a very rational and calm person but this storm has me jittering and hyper alert

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 21/01/2024 23:49

West of Scotland here. We just gained a trampoline about 20min ago - flew in, broke shed window then away again in moments.

Am in the West. I think they’re going to be prioritising the main roads so they should be passable but maybe check in the morning? The M1 definitely had issues with fallen trees earlier if you’re heading to Belfast.

Kids ( older teens) are all really out of sorts too and I know it’s partly because they’re wondering wtaf is wrong with me 🙄
