My surgery is tomorrow!!

Just that really, regulars might recognise me as I've spoken before about having a cleft lip and palate and how unhappy I've been with the symmetry of my nose and top lip.
After eight years and two complaints to PALS I am going in tomorrow for a septorhinoplasty bone graft and lip revision!!!
I am SO excited, yet trying not to be in case it gets cancelled or there's no real difference.
I've no one to share with either. My ex husband is dropping me at the entrance tomorrow and my mum is looking after my DC. My mum's made it clear she's going home on Tuesday night.
Wish me luck!

I'm wishing you the best of luck for your surgery. I hope the outcome is as good, or better than you hope.

Thecatmaster · 21/01/2024 22:58

Good luck. Hope it all goes well for you and that you get the result that you want. Xx

Scutterbug · 21/01/2024 22:59

Good luck OP, hope it all goes well for you.

PragmaticWench · 21/01/2024 23:02

A relative had this and it made a huge difference to how he felt. I wish you all the best and hope it goes smoothly. Silicone gel or patches help with scar healing.

wlv12 · 21/01/2024 23:03

Good luck OP, all the best for your recovery

mondler · 21/01/2024 23:04

Good luck OP sending you lots of love ❤️

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2024 05:45

Good luck, I work on a ward that does the repairs for babies. The results are amazing. So much better than when we first had them about 10 years ago. I often have to ask parents who've come in for palate repairs, if they've also had their lip done as well, as you just can't tell. Hopefully yours will be the same. And our cleft surgeons are just lovely!

PubicZirconia · 22/01/2024 05:57

All the very best to you today OP!xx

superplumb · 22/01/2024 08:01

All the best. If you're in Facebook I'd recommend the clappa group. Lots of help advice and support on there.

LadyEloise1 · 22/01/2024 08:35

Wishing you all the best with your operation- may the outcome be better than you dreamed of and your healing really fast @Itstomorrow Flowers

WineIsNotGoodForMe · 22/01/2024 08:36

Oh congrats OP hope it goes well and gives you the results you are looking for.

i am a parent of two cleft affected kids, people have no idea how long a road it is with many, many medical interactions along the way.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2024 16:34

@WineIsNotGoodForMe it's a lifelong road.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2024 16:35

vinoandbrie · 22/01/2024 17:04

Congratulations, I hope it’s all gone well.

Itstomorrow · 22/01/2024 21:50

Update everyone. It went very well. I've had to stay in as they couldn't get me awake and I still feel very shaky.
From what I see of my nose and lip, they look beautiful. In a bit of pain but better than fighting bed time with the DC.

Delighted for you, well done. Congratulations again.

Don’t let the pain get on top of you, take the painkillers when offered, don’t wait to start to feel pain before asking for pain relief.

I had a similar type of maxillo facial operation but decades ago now. Have never regretted it for a second, and I really hope this is going to up your quality of life and overall happiness so much!

Scutterbug · 22/01/2024 21:58

@Itstomorrow thats good news. Hope you get home tomorrow to home comforts x

mrswhiplington · 22/01/2024 22:31

You sound in good spirits OP.

do you mind me asking, did your children also have clefts?

Toddlerteaplease · 23/01/2024 14:46

We have had families where grandparents, parents and the child have had clefts. To see how the surgical techniques improved over the decades is amazing. We had a cleaner on my ward, who never had his palate repaired, and wore a metal
Plate. As that was what was done when he was born.

Wow! Yes, my kids are adults now, and the techniques have moved on even in the past 25 - 30 years
