What do you dream about?

I have the most bizarre illogical dreams.

Recently we got kidnapped off a (strange) train and sent to live in a world set up to look like ours but was uber controlled and not quite the same.

I never dream about my immediate family and it's very rare I dream of wider family or people I know. If I do my mum will not be who my mum is in real life and the same applies to anyone I know who I dream of. It's them, but not the actual them.

I rarely dream about every day situations. Sometimes I know I'm dreaming, especially in the naked in public one!

My husband says he mainly dreams about zombies and sex!

Anyway it got me wondering what other people dream about?

I dream about seeing whales. A lot. Maybe once a week. Blue whales, Orcas… I’m looking out to sea or at the side of a river. It’s lovely. But I also have very crazy dreams. This week I dreamt I was in Amsterdam with no shoes on and I was going to marry my boss.

Augustus40 · 20/01/2024 12:12

Anything and everything. I do not however find dream analysis is remotely accurate.

Goldenbrowntexturelikesun · 20/01/2024 12:28

For as long as I can recall I have always had very weird dreams and several recurring ones too, including one where I am desperate for the loo and rush into service station type toilets but every single one is out of order or full up with toilet paper!

The other one I have often is where I am on a field, looking up at a plane which starts falling out of the sky, the place has Tesco written on the side and I see parachutes falling from it, when it crashes to the ground I run to the field to help the survivors only to find the parachutes had no people attached, just vials of blood!

The other recurring dream I have is a tsunami but I’m stuck under the huge wave with other people in a large air bubble and we just go about our business as though it’s all normal

Wtaf is going on in my brain? Lol

Dh says he never remembers his dreams - wish I could days that.

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2024 12:33

All sorts. All night every night. Weird stuff. Illogical stuff. Usually in glorious detail and technicolour. Sometimes I know it's a dream.

I rarely dream about the DC, occasionally dream about DH. If I dream of being "at home" it's usually somewhere entirely fictional or the house I lived in 17yrs ago.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 20/01/2024 12:38

I have weird, wonderful, glorious dreams, sometimes involving family members and sometimes the most random characters pop up. I love it 😁

Goldenbrowntexturelikesun · 20/01/2024 12:39

Oh and I also have false awakening dreams (only recently realised it actually had a name). I find those really really frightening.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 20/01/2024 13:11

Usually the most random crap ever. Things like I'm sat in my car and all of a sudden it starts rolling backwards really fast, and no matter what I do I can't stop it. The brakes don't work and I pull the handbrake up, so I have no choice but to just continue driving like that weaving in and out of cars. Weirdly though in my dream I can reverse perfectly. Pity it's not the same in real life 😅 Other times I dream I can run for miles and miles and never get tired. I can't run for toffee and a jog to the end of the road would probably finish me off. When I was younger I dreamt a lot about not being able to cross the road, climb the stairs or dial numbers on a telephone. Each time I got to the other side of the road, to the top step or last number I'd get pulled back over and over again. Or I'd be in a hotel that has tons of stairs but they only go part way and my room i have to climb through holes in the wall. Everyone fits perfectly but when it's my turn even though im normal sized liked everyone else I have to squeeze myself through them and crawl as low down as possible. The annoying ones are thinking im up and dressed for work only to actually wake up and find I aren't!

Can't pull the handbrake up!!

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2024 20:09

I dream about not being able to stop the car due to the brakes failing (low speed and just weaving or bumping things gently) and I also dream about being unable to find a clean, private toilet and not being able to dial a number on my phone or moving house and nothing is packed. I also dream that I can't fit through staircases or through doors even when other people can. Usually when I'm anxious.

User2292994 · 20/01/2024 20:27

Last night I was on some sort of group trip to New York with a bunch of random people I sort of recognised. I was totally out of sync with everyone else and ended up doing my own thing of buying takeaway coffees and trailing around looking for a famous fountain, got on a bus that ended up in the countryside, went to a weird open air swimming pool under a motorway where you had to crawl up a concrete slope to get in to the changing rooms.

My dreams are always really vivid and interesting and totally logical at the time but I can never quite piece them together when I wake up. And they have very random people in them.

coffeetofunction · 20/01/2024 20:43

I often get blessed with people visiting me in my dreams, my D dad is the most frequent and it feel lovely to know he's with me. I also have dreams about others that are very accurate and I normally reach out to them. When I have random dreams that don't make sense or have a strong "theme" I always research what the meanings are

Bubbleohseven · 20/01/2024 20:46

I think I read somewhere that our dreams are inherited. IE, we have the same dreams as our parents.

I don't think this is true (definitely not true for me but I mean in general terms as well). Research does suggest that there may be a genetic component in dreaming ie if your parents dream a lot, you might too, but nothing to do with content which seems pretty random.

They don't even know why we dream. I certainly don't think they mean anything concrete.

ReadyForSeason · 20/01/2024 21:02

I have competed in Tour de France on a shared sledge with my DP, because I can’t ride a bike. We were in some sort of tunnel and it all made perfect sense.

Mollyplop999 · 20/01/2024 21:07

I dream of my ex husband. We've been Separated for 25 years. Im Always in a threatening situation with him. I dream of my Grandma who has been gone for 27 years but I find it very comforting. Strangely I don't dream of other deceased family members, but I was incredibly close to her. It's almost like she visits me!

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/01/2024 21:11

I don’t usually remember, but I remembered one the other day. Very boring though- I somehow had bought two cars. One was a mint green Fiat 500. I’ve had many models of car, but never a Fiat of any description.

Cheepcheepcheep · 20/01/2024 21:15

Mine are completely fucked up. I have also had the ‘can’t stop the car, handbrake doesn’t work’ dream.

My main one pre kids was having a baby and leaving the hospital and its head fall off. But delighted to say I don’t have it since DC.

AutumnBride · 20/01/2024 21:18

My most frequent recurring dream is that I've forgotten I'm at university and haven't been to any lectures or done any work and I've just realised I've got exams or coursework due in. I'm surprisingly calm about it, in my sleep.

CatamaranViper · 20/01/2024 21:36

Often I have the ability to fly but for some reason it isn't working properly and I just can't maintain any height.
Or I'm trying to defend someone but my punches are so soft and feeble.
Or I have a blazing row with my parents, usually it's very out of the blue and very angry. Massive betrayal from them which makes me never want to see them again (we're very close irl!)

Recently though it's been about going back to places I used to work and having to do a shift or a contract for them and forgetting how to do it.

Never actually dream about DH or DS. They are often there (as in I refer to them) but never see them. Like they're just not in that scene

Alexavolumedown · 20/01/2024 21:39

My dreams are incredibly, incredibly boring! I pray for more weird and interesting dreams every night but they’re almost always about doing housework, family/friendships or driving. I want to be in a spaceship going to the moon ffs! Or flying over the Amazon rainforest, not driving my kids to school…

ExceptionalBullFighter · 20/01/2024 21:40

I dream of a horse that appears beside crown land. It beckons me to follow it onto the King’s wood but as I keep following its lead it becomes increasingly lost until it abandons me in the middle of nowhere and then I get captured by the King’s man who takes me into a locked tower who doesn’t believe anything I say and does all sorts of terrible things to me in the name of cureing me of my meth addiction.

RenoDakota · 20/01/2024 22:00

I used to have a number of recurring dreams but don't anymore.
• driving an out of control bus but I am driving from the top deck, terrifyingly high up.
• always running up and over train platform bridges and never catching the train.
• like a pp said, forgetting I am at university (I left 34 years ago) and then remembering I have an exam but haven't done any of the work.
• and (I really liked this one) - finding extra rooms in my house that I never knew I had. Wish that one would come back sometimes.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 20/01/2024 22:03

Not proud of this one. Last night I dreamt I was having sex with John Lesley on a 52 seater coach full of meat contaminated with ASF

1982mommaof4 · 20/01/2024 22:08

Wow I'm jealous I never dream!

Windy1234 · 20/01/2024 22:21

@Cheepcheepcheep omg when my first son was born he was premature so in nicu, the first night I dreamt his head fell off it was traumatising!
