From which end do you peel a banana?

Lever end

or

Blunt end?

I tried the blunt end this morning. Not sure how much squeezing is required, but I didn't find it any better than using the stalk end, and it didn't make all the pith come away (perhaps because the banana was still very slightly green?).

I present as evidence:

Cartoon bananas always look like this, so opening from the bottom is clearly common:

Yes and the bananas in Mario Cart 😆

Blunt end. Pinch and peel.

lilyfire · 20/01/2024 05:22

Do other people ask the banana a question before they peel it? It has to be a yes/no question and you get a sharp knife and cut off the tip of the blunt end. It’s a dot for ‘no’ and a ‘y’ for yes. Experience has shown bananas aren’t always right though.

Still no comment about “lever end”?

who calls it the “lever end”?

SugarAndSpike · 20/01/2024 12:10

Because that's exactly what it is @Heather37231 😂

Sorry, I don’t follow you. Everyone else in this thread has referred to it as the “stalk end”.

A lever is a thing you press to make something move. How do you get from stalk to lever?

AhBiscuits · 20/01/2024 14:34

Blunt end is much easier, especially if the banana is a touch underripe.

Badtard · 20/01/2024 14:41

WHO 'SCRUNCHES' TOILET PAPER TO WIPE?????????

<misses point of thread>

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 20/01/2024 14:41

Stalk end. I don't care what monkeys do!

I do care about Michael of the banana though, @redheadsaregreat Grin He sounds like an expert. How does he peel his bananas, I wonder...

SugarAndSpike · 20/01/2024 18:02

@Heather37231 yes I agree it should be called stalk end lol...
Just couldn't think of how to refer to it very well when I first started the thread.

I'm still confused how opening from the blunt end doesn't create either a mushed banana or gross fingernails. I tried it earlier by opening the skin with my nail. Or am I meant to literally squash the end and the skin segments fall apart? Confused.

I don't want to be a monkey. Some (all? Not sure...) show their bottoms and I'm not going to go round with my trousers down.

<Ps. I'm a scruncher>

Pinch the very tip and it will split, then peel downwards. It grows from the stalk end (obv) and the skin is on the fruit like sort of petals.

Bumply · 20/01/2024 22:00

I used to snap it open at the stalk end, but that doesn't work well if it's too green or too ripe.
Then I heard it's easier to open at blunt end and that's what monkeys do and I switched to that method.
You only pinch enough to have a firm grasp of the skin at the blunt end and then gently prize two sets of pinching fingers apart. No smushing of banana involved.

Pootlepattle · 20/01/2024 22:02

The bottom like a monkey, you pinch it and then peel..easy

blackpanth · 20/01/2024 22:06

From the top

This thread has been really interesting. I've learnt a lot!

Hold the stalk end and pinch the other end. It splits into two and you then peel those back. Thats how monkeys do it!

gemma19846 · 21/01/2024 15:50

Some people have far too much time on their hands. Who cares

aname1234 · 21/01/2024 18:46

Stalk end- much more satisfying snap
