Bananas 🤢

SirChenjins · 19/01/2024 15:23

Stalk end. I tried the blunt end after reading that on here a while back and it didn’t work nearly as easily as the stalk end. Might be because I like my bananas with a small bit of green still on the skin. .

KissTheRains · 19/01/2024 15:26

Blunt end.
Just squeeze it and it opens very easily.

Stalk end. what kind of psycho peels from the blunt end?

Monkeys do. When my Reception children didn't have the coordination to peel bananas from the stalk end I taught them to open them at the bottom. It's much easier.

All bananas are individuals. Thus I use whichever one of the four methods suits the banana best.

four methods ????

Pray tell.

TheDogsMother · 19/01/2024 15:53

Stalk end obviously ! Then the skin just peels away neatly.

TomeTome · 19/01/2024 17:27

In theory if you peel from the non stalk end by pinching to open you get less “strings” on the fruit because they are joined on to the skin at the tip. In practice….who can tell?

The Queen used to use a knife and fork.

I have eaten a banana with a knife and fork from a plate. I was at a business breakfast and the South African gent across from me was fascinated! Cut the ends of, split the skin, push it back and eat in slices. Really easy. Fairly sure I saw a cartoon showing me how to do it once.

Now I open from the bottom, because that is the most efficient way. If other primates do it, I trust they know their bananas.

MillenialAvocado · 19/01/2024 17:56

About 15 years ago I overheard someone in the hairdressers saying you should always peel a banana from the bottom, because that's the way monkeys do it. I have never peeled a banana from the stalk since.

LifeofBrienne · 19/01/2024 18:00

DH switched to opening his banana from the blunt end but that means he has to dispose of the little manky bit before eating the banana. Stalk end for me every time (and they HAVE to be properly ripe).

Heather37231 · 19/01/2024 18:00

Why are you calling the stalk end “The lever end”?

I have never, ever heard of anyone peeling from the bottom. Every day’s a school day.

Dacadactyl · 19/01/2024 18:02

The BLUNT end?????! What in the name of all that is holy?!

I have never seen anyone open a banana like that and I'd honestly think they were bonkers if i did lol

CheersToAMerryChristmas · 19/01/2024 18:16

Not the stalk end, the other end.

You will also find that the stringy bits pull away from the fruit if you do so.

Also if you think that is the 'bottom' end you haven't seen a banana plant. Bananas grow pointing upwards.

Emily1583 · 19/01/2024 18:29

Top. Didn't even know it was a thing doing it the wrong way round 😁

LittleLittleRex · 19/01/2024 18:36

I present as evidence:

Cartoon bananas always look like this, so opening from the bottom is clearly common:

Used to be stalk but changed to blunt a few years ago - would never go back. I like having a handle

NahHumBrag · 19/01/2024 19:29

Blunt end. Same as the monkeys*. And they are not to be messed with.

*apparently. Have not done scientific research.

Many years ago, I went to Borneo on holiday & visited an Orang Outan rescue centre. I met a lovely female Orang who was enjoying a bunch of bananas. She held the bunch by the stalk end in her left hand while she peeled each banana in turn from the ‘bottom’ end & ate it. When she finished her bunch, all the skins were still attached together by their stalks, and she chucked them over her shoulder. Now, every time I eat a banana I think of her & always peel it from the bottom, as she did.

What?! People peel from the blunt end?! I have not heard of this in all my years. You pull the stalk back til it snaps and peel it back!

Often the bending back Michael of the banana. Depends on the level of ripeness.

Blunt end takes the horrible little gremlin at the end of the banana off with the peel.

Stichintime · 19/01/2024 14:03

Snap in middle. Perfect for kids.
Second half stays in skin if it's not wanted straight away!

Only if it's the perfect degree of ripeness. If it's very ripe it will be a disaster!

@eandz13 I have no idea why I typed 'Michael of the banana' but I'm having the sort of belly giggles I sorely needed right now.
