Mean girls remake

Anyone going to watch it ?
I'm not sure I can, I have such fond memories of the original, being 14 and me and my friends always quoting the film, how comedic it was !

I struggle to see how it can live up to the original, and the original cast ! Also it's a musical? Not sure I want to watch it really.

It's sad that today's generation will see mean girls portrayed in this new way rather than watch the brilliant original movie

Also apparently Lindsey Lohan has been called something offensive in the film, how would Tina Fey allow that to happen ?

i’ve booked theatre tickets for this summer! Can’t wait. Directed by Tina Fey!!

what on earth are you on about. You do know they can still watch the original don’t you? And how do you know that the remake won’t be even better?

Needmorelego · 18/01/2024 10:49

I saw it yesterday. I really enjoyed it. It's funny and silly. It doesn't take itself seriously at all.
The songs are good although the actress playing Cady isn't the greatest singer.
There's a lot of little things that will make you smile - look at Karen's necklace a few times.
Don't forget to wear pink.(although you should have gone yesterday for that 😂)

No need to jump down my throat, we're all allowed to have an opinion. Remakes are very rarely better than the originals.

I'm not saying it's going to be shit, but I feel it won't live up to the nostalgic memories I have of the original

I don't remember Lindsay Lohan being called anything offensive. Don't want to plot spoiler but........(whispers) cameo........

34weekmess · 18/01/2024 10:52

Fire crotch ? Something apparently some man called her back in 2006
Even her dad has come out and said he is disgusted by the comment

@34weekmess my 15 year old spent most of last night analysing the differences between original, new and theatre versions.
She got fairly intense about it.
I think she likes new version more - but she is obsessed with musicals.

and the current generation will still freely be able to watch. On loads of streaming services!

Bless her, I like that she has thought about it !
I think I might be being a little biased as I don't like musicals either !

@spearthatbroc we haven't seen the theatre version (yet 😂) but she has read articles about it and clips online etc.
I think it will be our next theatre booking.

34weekmess · 18/01/2024 10:56

@spearthatbroc This is true, but will they ? I know a lot might think it's easier to watch the new one, there is much more hype about it etc and once they've seen it the new cast is the ones they will see as those characters.
IMO the original cast is classic, Rachel macadams the OG Regina George !

The original was headlining netflix last week (or prime, can’t remember).

@spearthatbroc eeek.....I didn't think tickets were available yet. I will check that out. Thanks.
(Did you see Heathers on stage? That was amazing)

spearthatbroc · 18/01/2024 10:57

i would get your “sadness” it if you’d see the new one

but you haven’t.

So why don’t you see it and then see whether you still feel sad

i didn’t no. Genuinely looking forward to this musical. Tina Fey is just incredible

Needmorelego · 18/01/2024 11:03

@spearthatbroc I just had a quick look online and ticket availability seems ok for late August/September so we hopefully will be ok (as I am gonna have to wait until payday to book) 🙂

This is a fair comment !! I will reserve my judgement until I've seen it... toddler and late pregnancy may not allow it for a while though sadly

Took my 11 and 13 year old DDs today. We all enjoyed it, although preferred the original overall. We are all musical fans so liked the songs.

CatamaranViper · 20/01/2024 19:23

Love the original and I love the stage show.
Haven't yet seen the film BUT I've heard some clips of Cady singing in 'revenge party' and she wasn't great. Very flat and auto tune sounding

CatamaranViper · 20/01/2024 19:30

🎵my name is Karen...

Needmorelego · 20/01/2024 19:30

@CatamaranViper yes poor Cady isn't the best of singers.

KarenNotAKaren · 20/01/2024 19:33

The songs are really good especially I’d Rather Be Me - my year 6 listens to this when her very own Regina George (yes they exist in primary school, fucking girls are a nightmare) upsets her.

I am taking DD and her friends to see this on Wednesday, I can’t wait! I’m really pleased to see some diversity in the cast too
