Mean girls remake

Anyone going to watch it ?
I'm not sure I can, I have such fond memories of the original, being 14 and me and my friends always quoting the film, how comedic it was !

I struggle to see how it can live up to the original, and the original cast ! Also it's a musical? Not sure I want to watch it really.

It's sad that today's generation will see mean girls portrayed in this new way rather than watch the brilliant original movie

Also apparently Lindsey Lohan has been called something offensive in the film, how would Tina Fey allow that to happen ?

The new film isn’t a remake is it..? I thought it was a film of the musical?

It's not a remake though, it's a film adaptation of the stage musical. Can't really be compared in the same way that the Disney live action films are, as an example.

Edited to say that it's in the same way that the 90s Matilda film and the adaptation of the musical can't be compared.

And of course Mean Girls and Matilda are both adaptations of books!

It is extremely similar to the original. Lots of the script is the same. Not like the different versions of Matilda.

@KarenNotAKaren thanks - she has her moments 😂
She is currently listening to the soundtrack over and over.

I saw it tonight and it was ok - love the original. I understand they’ve bought it up to date but it did smack slightly of woke. The whole point is that the girls (and other high schoolers!) are MEAN and therefore they will say offensive things to (spoiler alert!) make the ending relevant. Anything even mildly ‘mean’ from the original was watered down. Wasn’t really a fan of the soundtrack - and I usually like musicals! I think maybe if I’d seen the stage show I’d be more impressed.

overall just seemed a strange thing to do - why not make a sequel rather than a woke rehash

Your OP reminds me of how I feel about the Wonka films. I always loved the original and am sad it has been remade so many times.

You know there is a Mean Girls 2, right? It felt like a half-assed remake tbh.
