Drawer of Random Crap

Who has these, or am I the only one?!

Looking for the set of micro screwdrivers, last seen on Christmas day and have just located them in that drawer (obviously shoved in there by the husband).
Also in there was a collection of Lego bits, a pack of assorted cable ties, 3 pencils and 4 pens, a plastic pikachu, 2 tape measures and a metal ruler, a variety pack of fuses, 2 out of a pack of 3 pritt sticks and a pair of wooden chopsticks - the freebies you get given, still in the paper wrapper!

Who else wants to join me in the confessional of slovenly housekeeping?

Goodness that's a meagre haul! I don't think I've the energy to itemise any of my 3 hold all drawers.😀

MaggieNextDoor · 16/01/2024 10:56

I think everyone has 'that drawer' don't they? Ours has about a hundred biros, most of them don't work, some sellotape, some sticky labels, nail clippers, a charger for something or another, a packet of party invitations, a tape measure, some drawing pins (loose), some ribbons from Christmas and a bottle opener from Mallorca.

Forgottenmyphone · 16/01/2024 11:02

I think every house has one. It’s like an unwritten rule of home ownership.
On the surface of ours (I daren’t dig any deeper):
One odd glove
Adapter plug (for goodness knows which country)
Charger for ???? Possibly for a games console we threw out years ago
A box of thank you cards
Bottle opener (because this drawer is closer to the drinks cabinet than the kitchen and DH can’t be bothered to walk an additional 15 steps when he’s just got home from work)
Cork screw (ditto)

FridgeJenga · 16/01/2024 11:09

I forgot to say there’s also about 12 😳 takeaway menus, but they’re supposed to live there so that’s ok?
And 3 mini rolls of wasabi tape which was hidden underneath all the menus 😬

That's a whatnot drawer.
Think yourself lucky, there's about 10 of those in our house, mostly my DH's.
I know where all my stuff is, he doesn't. 🤷

toomanyleggings · 16/01/2024 11:18

I actually have 4 of these draws. In my worst one there is some euro from our last holiday, several wires that I’m not sure the function of, 6 pairs of sunglasses, an empty urine ( clean) sample pot from the drs that I lost and then found again, the tension rod thing from a staircase, a couple of lipsticks, a small plastic bunny, the strap off some reins, the to remote ( was wondering where that had gone), an eraser, several random keys, pens, 2 odd gloves, a bike light, a watch, and a Christmas bauble. That’s just on the top layer 🤣

BlueShed · 16/01/2024 11:24

Absolutely.

And in the loft, I have a plastic box which is labelled "the box with no name".

idontlikealdi · 16/01/2024 13:01

We have two in our house, known as the drawers of shit.

I go through them from time to time and get rid of it all but h has an ability to fill them up again in days.

I'll ask what these 17 cables / chargers are for, he admits he doesn't know but can't let go of them.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/01/2024 13:13

We have a drawer of shite.

It’s full of, well shite really

Bits of blu tac, yellow sticky things for catching fungus gnats that just stick to everything in the drawer. One random birthday candle, drawing pins, a magnifying glass etc wrc

Andthereyougo · 16/01/2024 13:25

It’s Pam and Mick’s ( Gavin & Stacey) Messy Drawer. Every home needs one.

Papyrophile · 16/01/2024 13:32

That's the Occasionally Useful Stuff drawer.

Dramasloth · 16/01/2024 13:34

Rolls of tape. Batteries. Spare cat collars. Pens. Lemsip. Hooks. Vape pods.

donteatthedaisies0 · 16/01/2024 13:34

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 16/01/2024 13:34

We had a sack full of random chargers, connecting cables etc. that my husband wouldn't get rid of. In the end, he agreed I could chuck them, so long as I promised to pay for a replacement cable if we couldn't find the cable for whatever gadget that might have been in that sack. Would your DH agree to similar?

We also have crap drawers in both the kitchen and bedroom with random stuff in.

donteatthedaisies0 · 16/01/2024 13:39

The random keys . What are those about (I've lived in a lot of houses , don't keep them ) . Where do they come from ?

MzHz · 16/01/2024 13:40

Son, on way out to a mock... "Got a calculator?"

Told him to take his one from school days.

"no, has to be basic, can't have all the formula stuff on it"

Oh to the Drawer of Randomness... ta-dah!

<smug> I KNEW that would come in handy one day... 😂

ILookAtTheFloor · 16/01/2024 13:41

Ours has

Old mobile phones and their boxes- can never bring myself to throw them out. Also phone cases.
Envelopes
Sticky labels
Blank greetings cards
My old cheque book
Old work lanyards
Ancient USB Hard drive

We also have a junk tin in the kitchen which is full of random costume jewellery, general tat, coins, hair ties, pens, pencils. Old keys which we don't know what they open but don't want to throw.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 16/01/2024 13:41

We have one. It even has a white ceramic knob with a skull and cross bones on it.

SeriouslyAgain · 16/01/2024 13:42

I've got a drawer and a bowl! I can't even list the drawer contents unless I take the afternoon off work! But top layer is bluetack, superglue, weird plastic bits which maybe belong to a trampoline, or a water bottle, or a toaster 😂, garden twine, a balloon.

stayathomer · 16/01/2024 13:42

I see all of your drawers and raise you a double press (cupboard, am in Ireland!) paperwork, giant chalks, old annuals, teacups, strange salt pepper and mustard holders on a weird deck chair thingy, extension cables, possibly obsolete cables and chargers, a door wedge, an old bag and some gift wrap

ThePoshUns · 16/01/2024 13:42

Birthday candles, pens, nail files, sellotape, menus, blu tak, tea towels ( it's actually the tea towel and random crap drawer)

murasaki · 16/01/2024 13:43

It's, well they are, for there are now two, the drawers of useful things in our house.

BrieAndChilli · 16/01/2024 13:47

I have a chest of very shallow drawers in the study BUT they are all labelled so things like stationery, batteries/cables, sewing, craft, gift bags etc then there is 1 drawer labelled random which is for truly random things that don't have a home else where like a pair of extra strong magnets, some binoculars, etc.
