Do you ever look at multi million pound properties on Rightmove

You talk yourself out of some because the main en suite doesn’t have a tub, or the utility room is too small. When you see ones you like you’re rearranging the rooms, wondering where the TV will go, thinking of colour schemes.

and all the while you have a just tenner in your bank account 😂

Yes, I often whack up my normal modest search parameters to 5 million or so. My dream house would be a quirky little cottage with beams that you bumped your head on, but it doesn't stop me looking at mansions.

Riverlee · 15/01/2024 20:41

Yes. Been there, done that.

I reject the ones that are painted all white or grey, with no variation, throughout the house, or are to open planned.

VelvetandLace · 15/01/2024 20:42

Ha ha, yes OP, I do this a lot! Right Move browsing is my hobby.
Another thing I do is get cross that there are no nice houses for sale in my area that I want to buy. Then I remember that I actually have no plans to move…

breathequietly · 15/01/2024 20:43

Yes, I'm very picky with my fictional 10 million.

MuchTooTired · 15/01/2024 20:48

I do. I also enjoy looking at ones that are a mere 200-400k more than mine because that’s feasible in theory if I stop spending, earn more, have an imaginary inheritance/small lottery win and my house rises astronomically in value and nobody else’s does.

I genuinely wouldn’t want a mansion, running and maintenance costs would be unaffordable for me even if I had the cash for the house. A nice detached 4/5 bedroom with three reception rooms is more my ultimate fantasy house!

Clutterbugsmum · 15/01/2024 20:48

Yes, I also have a nosey on YouTube with 'Mansions' around the world.

BruceAndNosh · 15/01/2024 20:49

Yes!
I refer to it as Property Porn.

I'm also very critical about layouts, and yesterday point blank refused to "buy" a £5m one because it was 4 floors and the laundry was in the basement. I imagined lobbing my dirty underwear down 3 flights of stairs...

Cheapskates couldn't be bothered to install laundry chutes! 😝

Beezknees · 15/01/2024 20:57

Genuinely, I don't. Mansions don't appeal to me and never have.

I do look at ones that one day I could maybe afford. I live in a social housing flat.

dancinginthewind · 15/01/2024 20:59

Definitely. And DH really doesn't understand. I remember showing him one in lockdown and saying that I was worried that it just had too many exposed beams and that they would be a pain to dust and he was just Confused and pointing out that the equity we have in our current house would just about cover the stamp duty of buying the place I was looking at.

2TwoTango · 15/01/2024 21:00

Always.

itsgettingweird · 15/01/2024 21:01

The lottery I don't do btw 😂

Now...l the £10 in my bank account. It's that I can relate 🫣🤷‍♀️

dancinginthewind · 15/01/2024 21:04

I also like to just put in Scotland as the location and order the properties from most expensive and then spend a long time comparing castles and working out which would be the best for an extended family Christmas or for hosting the DC's wedding or that sort of thing

I get cross when the one I had my eye on gets Sold or is under offer! 🤦‍♀️

I love going on to RM and looking at very expensive properties.

Solongtoshort · 15/01/2024 21:20

I don’t anymore, during lock down l got a little more than upset because my 1.3 million home sold, lt had its own lake and everything.

mumda · 15/01/2024 21:22

I love Rightmove.

I love the most expensive house in HD8.

WonderingWanda · 15/01/2024 21:42

@chocolateisavegetable it's nice but a bit too close to the M3 for my liking, you'd be able to hear it!

TheLogicalSong · 15/01/2024 21:43

chocolateisavegetable · 15/01/2024 21:33

Well if we all combined our £10, maybe we could afford this https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/142891424#/?channel=RES_BUY

Only 7 photos for a 21-bedroomed £65m house with 19 bathrooms? The estate agent wants sacking 😀

JubileeJumps · 15/01/2024 21:45

If they don’t have a lake then what’s the point?

Covidwoes · 15/01/2024 21:51

@TheLogicalSong those photos are so disappointing! Also, where's the floor plan? I love how it says 'detached', just in case you were looking for a 21 bed semi. 🤣

I agree!

Watch The Parisian Agent on Netflix. Beautiful houses and not unattractive men!

biscuitnut · 15/01/2024 22:12

All the time. It’s my hobby. I saw one multi million pound home that seemed suitable but then I noticed the nearby stream. Flooding is a real worry isn’t it? So back to the drawing board for me. I am in Berkshire browsing houses valued at 2 million. I am not upgrading from my £230k semi unless it is right.
