MissHoollie · 15/01/2024 17:15

I've come down with what I presume is the latest strain.
I've had COVID twice before but this is so different.
Did anyone have dreadful.insomnia?
How long was recovery?

Well we are all ill and haven’t slept much but not tested so no idea if Covid or another virus. Cough, sore throat and stuffy nose mainly.

AuntPru · 15/01/2024 17:22

Sore throat, body aches, nausea and diarrhoea, fevers and yes, definitely insomnia when I had it in March, not so much last November. In March I lost my sense of smell and taste entirely, to the extent that my toddler developed nappy rash because I had no idea he'd done a poo🙈

Took about ten days from getting ill to be back in work in March, only a week in November. Feel better soon!

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 15/01/2024 17:27

Just recovering now.

A heavy cold initially then l
-lost sense of smell

  • was achy and tired.
  • suffered insomnia
-had no appetite and suffered digestive discomfort

I last had it ( tested) in May last year and lost taste and smell . I wasn’t too bad but the weird thing was the feeling better then worse again. I still don’t think I’ve got my full taste and smell from then. I reckon I’ve got about 80%.

Xyzagain · 15/01/2024 18:35

I had it over Christmas . It just felt like a head cold apart from feeling nauseous. Only tested as we were seeing elderly relatives and was surprised it was positive. I did have a few dodgy nights sleep

Mrgrinch · 15/01/2024 18:37

I wouldn't know, don't think I've done a test since 2022. It really baffles me that people still bother with that crap.

Pickles2023 · 15/01/2024 18:38

We all had it recently..i tested positive for a day (so guessing asymptomatic?) Partner couldmt get out of bed for a week, sleep all over the place, he had chills and really bad headache ect..

LO was admitted to hospital as her fever went to hypothermia and she lost her voice (is a baby so guesing very sore throat but couldnt tell us)

bluechicky · 15/01/2024 18:39

Are you testing positive?

Ozzyskye · 15/01/2024 18:40

I'm negative today on day 7 (tested on what I think was day 2). It's been awful this time round;

Emotional, achey, fever, chills, cough/cold, sinus pain, headache, really vivid dreams then insomnia, wiped out, feeling spaced/drunk, very thirsty...

It's been grim

MissHoollie · 16/01/2024 14:17

Yes tested positive Sunday

Had it in November.
Dreadful cough and cold along with spiky temperature and headache, digestive issues (soreness and the runs to the point of blood)

Took about 2.5 weeks for it to totally go away but the cough lingered til just after new year.

Elvanseshortage · 16/01/2024 14:21

I had insomnia with my latest bout of covid recently but then I almost always get insomnia in the early stages of any virus. My explanation for it is that when the body is trying to fight off a virus in the early stages it is flooded with adrenaline. I’m not a doctor or scientist but that’s exactly what it feels like.

People still bother with that crap because, unlike you, they give a shit about others as well as themselves.

2dogsandabudgie · 16/01/2024 14:33

Mrgrinch - I have an elderly relative in hospital at the moment who has caught covid whilst in there. Perhaps if people were still testing then he wouldn't have caught it.

Toomuch44 · 16/01/2024 14:33

I had insomnia with my first bout of covid - Feb 2021 - I didn't sleep for 72 hours and even after that I found it really hard to switch off and sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time. I literally felt dazed and couldn't focus on anything.

Hope you feel better soon.

NewYear24 · 16/01/2024 14:38

I has it over Christmas, this was the second time I’ve had it. I had a temperature for about a day and a half, lots of coughing, felt nauseous but not as bad as before. I felt myself getting a lot better after three and a half days. I slept a lot a night and found it hard to get up on the morning. By midday each day I felt a bit better and then it came back in the evenings but not as bad as the mornings. I stayed on the maximum amount of painkillers for about three days.
I have found myself getting colder than normal and I felt breathless when I did my first aqua aerobics class in the new year.
I tested positive for six days and went out on day 7.

Forthwith · 16/01/2024 14:40

Had it before Christmas. My fourth time. Hacking cough for a couple of weeks, but only two days of feeling truly rough/one day off work. Then just the cough and a lingering sniffly cold.

Topseyt123 · 16/01/2024 14:45

I had a very heavy cold a few weeks ago but wouldn't know whether it was COVID or not because I don't test anymore. Haven't for about 18 months at least. The tests are so expensive to buy now (between £10 and £15 round here as far as I can see) so I am not going to be buying any.

If I am particularly ill with anything I'll stay at home (just as I always have done) where I won't be likely to spread it. Other than that, life goes on as normal.

I bought 5 for £5 on Amazon, I had to test because my DM is in a nursing home so I can’t risk visiting her there with it.

I have a very poorly Dad, and I don’t think his body would cope with fighting Covid on top of everything else he is dealing with (one being aggressive cancer). It’s lucky we tested my husband before we were due to meet up with my family a few weeks ago, as he tested positive. I then caught it a few days later (Christmas Day).

slavetothekittens · 16/01/2024 15:02

Had it before Christmas (4th time)

Hacking cough which is still lingering, throat like razors, aching limbs and just so, so tired.

Bertiesmum3 · 16/01/2024 15:03

🤣🤣
even before Covid was a thing, for years I’ve always lost my sense of smell and taste with a cold 🤣🤣

Same! When they first said the covid symptoms in 2020 I was baffled as I got all those with a normal cold!
