Anyone had COVID recently ?

MissHoollie · 15/01/2024 17:15

I've come down with what I presume is the latest strain.
I've had COVID twice before but this is so different.
Did anyone have dreadful.insomnia?
How long was recovery?

I had it just before Christmas and it was very mild compared to my previous two bouts, BUT the cough is still lingering. It's much better now, but I'm still coughing multiple times a day and feel very 'phlegmy'. Ugh.

Testing because I don't want to knowingly infect anyone else, especially my elderly parents and MIL.

I wouldn't know, don't think I've done a test since 2022. It really baffles me that people still bother with that crap.

Very rude.

I test to hopefully protect vulnerable friends and relatives in their 90's.

biscuitnut · 16/01/2024 15:31

Not me but sister in law and niece have had it, got it just before Xmas. They had tests because niece works for the NHS. SIL is not the type to moan but says she is still utterly exhausted and is still having to take naps. Niece says it wiped her out this time, as per usual it affects everyone differently though!

Got a runny nose Wednesday night and within an hour of dinner I realised my sense of smell and taste had gone.
Thursday my sinuses were really painful, headache, tired. Positive test.
Friday I was tired and had a cough, not chronic.
Saturday felt run down but ok.
Back to normal Sunday.

Forgot to get my booster before Christmas. Had Covid once before and had zero symptoms, picked up on random test before work.

PandaG · 16/01/2024 15:49

Currently got what is definitely my third, and probably 4th (no testing when I was ill March 2020) bout. Utterly wiped out tiredness, can't concentrate on anything, feels like I have a steel band round my temples and eye sockets, I sound ridiculous but throat not too sore, food tastes off, in particular cups of tea taste awful, itchy eyes and ears, and intermittent sneezing and stuffy nose. Wheezing on climbing 2 flights of stairs but not much of a cough.

I only tested as I was supposed to be away with work today, including sharing lifts and accommodation... and work colleagues have immunosuppressed family members. I'm pretty fed up as was looking forward to the trip.

SallyWD · 16/01/2024 15:51

Me and my parents got it recently. We all had terrible insomnia the first night then slept better the following nights. That first night of insomnia was bizarre though. We were wide awake, like we'd had 20 double expressos!

The tests are so expensive to buy now (between £10 and £15 round here as far as I can see) so I am not going to be buying any
I bought 5 for £5 on Amazon, I had to test because my DM is in a nursing home so I can’t risk visiting her there with it.

I'll still stick to the remaining at home if ill and going about my life while I am well.

My mother is very elderly and vulnerable (has COPD). I keep away if I have even a slight cold or anything much out of the ordinary for me. If I don't then I visit her every month. She has just recovered from a nasty chest infection which wasn't caught from any of us because it had been almost a month since the previous visit. Fortunately it was short lived and cleared up after a few days antibiotics.

CurlyWurly1991 · 16/01/2024 15:57

I had it in late Dec and felt awful. Had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks and the baby stopped developing while I had covid. I’m fairly sure covid caused the miscarriage.
I had the first strain in March 2020 and developed long covid that lasted for 18 months.
it baffles me that people don’t test. It is still a dangerous virus for vulnerable people.

MistressWeatherwax1 · 16/01/2024 16:21

I've got it just now.

As far as I can tell I caught it on the 5th without knowing at the time. By the Thursday after I had lost my voice but was fine other than that, no cough or anything so didn't know it was covid.

Then Friday night when I finished work it all hit me - all over aches, headache, cough, wheezing in chest, blocked sinuses, temperature since Friday that only went down today, and really bad dizziness. Tested on Saturday and it was covid. Slept all day sat and sun then could hardly sleep at all yesterday and today.

GrandTheftWalrus · 16/01/2024 15:07

Same! When they first said the covid symptoms in 2020 I was baffled as I got all those with a normal cold!

Exactly!
👍🏻

mondaytosunday · 16/01/2024 16:54

My sister had it at Christmas. Seemed like the flu with a cough, so much like the typical kind. She was much better after six days, when she tested negative.

SoOutingWhoCares · 16/01/2024 17:19

We've had an outbreak at work in the last week - they've mainly had sore throats and cold symptoms, one colleague got it at Christmas and still has a cough and feels unwell.

I was definitely exposed to at least 3 cases last week at very close quarters including one person coughing repeatedly in my face who tested positive within hours.

Oddly, I've never tested positive for covid, at one point 18 colleagues came down with it on the same day in December 2021 but I somehow dodged it.

On Saturday morning I had really bad stomach upset, the worst headache I've had in my life, slight sore throat and feeling awful and thought "here we go" but I tested negative. Since then I've been exhausted still, awful sinus headache, itchy tongue, crazy vivid dreams (insomnia on Friday) and metallic taste in mouth. I've been wfh as feel too exhausted/achy/frozen to go into the office but still testing negative despite seeing people on this thread with similar symptoms being positive.

I test to protect vulnerable dependents but also because I have an autoimmune condition and would be eligible for antivirals as would an immediate family member who I care for.

dildeewana · 16/01/2024 17:25

I caught COVID in december. The insomnia was awful. I spent two nights sitting on the sofa feeling like I didn't need sleep ever again. I must have only got an hour at most both nights. Then I crashed around 11am for a few hours. It was so strange.

YorkBound · 16/01/2024 19:16

Yes, just before Xmas. Lots of people I know had it too

allgrownupnow · 17/01/2024 09:00

Do the old tests still work? I have a couple from when they were still available free, but not sure if they're accurate... does anyone know?
Thanks

SoOutingWhoCares · 17/01/2024 09:51

@allgrownupnow I bought some of the new ones but ran out and I'm now using an old free kit. The paid for ones were much clearer, I've had some trouble with the dye in the old kit bleeding even though it's not past the expiry date. I've had a very very faint second line come up but I can't tell
if it's a genuine result or not given how much the dye is bleeding. I'm going to buy some more tests to be sure.

My old free tests did work for me - I tested on Monday and got an almost immediate positive very clearly, despite being 3 months out of date.

carpingdeum · 17/01/2024 13:42

I bought some tests from boots £2 a test. Got them just in case we need them.

Sandtownnel · 17/01/2024 13:45

I had it a few weeks ago. Intense body aches, shivering and so dizzy. Very intense headache. The worst time I've had.

SoOutingWhoCares · 17/01/2024 14:02

Well, four of the old tests have a faint line and the new test doesn't. Not sure which one to trust!

WellWillWoll · 17/01/2024 15:09

We all have it at the moment. DD has usual weird taste in her mouth. DS and I have had truly horrible headache for days. Bit dizzy. No cough, no sore throat symptoms and nothing at all resembling a cold. Just odd.

I wish someone had bothered about that ‘crap’ when they infected me n July.

Still can’t leave the house 6 months later. Long Covid is such fun
