What would you gift a child that they would love but their parent would hate? 10-14 years

Some bright spark bought my 6 year old boy a recorder at Christmas - I'd like to think it was innocent. I'm now plotting my revenge. So go on, what would you buy that a child would love but the adult would flip a lid? It can't be overtly a problem. Child aged between 10 and 14.

Mumsnet, do your worst.

Had to look it up & now I want one. This, from the product features, is a bit of a giveaway:

'Record and playback songs over and over and over'😂

Yup, it's a contender.

Working in IT and being evil, I might arranged for a particularly arseholish manager to have his computer updated to make animal sounds with every keystroke at the end of my last day.

2 or 3 of the largest size of squishmallow - totally useless but extremely bulky.

Horse riding lessons

If neither parent plays, golf clubs

Do it!

In my day we had to content ourselves with turning the brightness right down on a colleague's computer. Or making the screen one character wide & high.

I also remember the chap who got religion & had the words 'Jesus is Lord' as a screensaver - until someone got in one evening & changed it to 'Jesus it's slow'.😂

Oh the laughs we had in the 1980s!

I used to entertain myself with Ctrl Alt and arrow, but there are sometimes special occasions to prepare for...

Hang on. I've just seen the video for the cat piano & it doesn't have cat sounds. Where's the real one?

Moon sand, playdough, NERF guns, hulk fists, thanos hand, karaoke microphone/karaoke kit, anything crafty with sequins, for girls make up, for boys anything with small moving parts.

bumbledenbarsk · 15/01/2024 06:59

Ah, I remember the moon sand from a year or so ago. That stuff gets everywhere.

Build a robot kit, chemistry sets, magic sets... Craft sets... Especially if child is too young to tackle unsupervised.
