Anything that can actually get rid of this? Tried gels and shampoo from GP but have a constant plume of white flakes coming off my head which is embarrassing 😳

That should be - available OTC - no prescription required

ronoi · 13/01/2024 15:50

@CarpeVitam

Can I ask, what does it smell like?

I'm really sensitive to smells and anything strong is a no go, but I'm thinking about giving this a go

Where do you buy it?

Eryr22 · 13/01/2024 15:50

Nothing has worked for me 😢 currently on the waiting list to be seen by a dermatologist. I find coconut oil does get rid of some of the itching though, if I leave it on overnight.

I bought it online - from iHerb. Tbh, I've never really noticed a smell - other than a regular shampoo smell - definitely not a strong smell, if that makes sense 😉

Nothing has worked for me either. Dermatology in my area isn’t accepting routine referrals so I emailed a private dermatologist last night… desperate to get it sorted & never actually seen a dermatologist about it…

UngratefulOldCabbage · 13/01/2024 15:53

Faith in nature shampoo helps my scalp - no SLS etc and really calms my scalp.

BluePinkPurple · 13/01/2024 15:54

The thing that has worked best for me is Enstiller Foam from the GP. It doesn’t ever go but it helps make it manageable.

mynameiscalypso · 13/01/2024 15:54

Nothing worked for me other than proper medication (methotrexate initially, now biologics) but I do also have PsA so went via rheumatology rather than dermatology (which I understand has longer waiting lists)

Hermittrismegistus · 13/01/2024 15:55

Have you tried a selenium based shampoo?

Cric · 13/01/2024 15:58

Have you tried sebco at all??
Also do you moisturise your scalp at all?? That made a huge difference to me.... not somewhere you'd normally think about putting cream

Same with me, except I went via dermatology as it was deemed easier to meet the criteria for biologics. My private rheumatologist had put me on methotrexate which wasn’t working well enough for joints or skin, I wasn’t keen on the next drug that she could prescribe so she referred me to a private dermatologist and he agreed to biologics and put me on the NHS.

Goddessonahighway · 13/01/2024 16:14

Another vote for Bettamouse. Its easier to use as doesn't make my hair greasy.

FloofCloud · 13/01/2024 16:18

I found betacap works best at the moment but it doesn't always work as often it's stress related. I also use coal tar shampoo for a few weeks, and coconut oil
Best is stress free life and sunshine tho ... oh how lovely would that be lol

Smartishpants · 13/01/2024 16:19

Betnovate scalp solution on prescription. It goes on dry hair and smells very strong for a minute or two but then dries and completely fixes it for me. Best stuff ever.

therealcookiemonster · 13/01/2024 16:20

have you tried t gel coal tar shampoo?

TripleDaisySummer · 13/01/2024 16:24

Selsun only thing that's worked for DS.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/01/2024 16:28

Selenium based shampoos and T Gel work for me.

sixtiesbaby88 · 13/01/2024 16:30

I use faith in nature shampoo, anything with sls in it makes my scalp flake. I ended up getting a biopsy and I have discoid lupus on my scalp, so it's important for a dermatologist to give you a diagnosis if you can. In the end I used Benenden for a private referral.
Betacap lotion is the only thing to keep it at bay

The one I mentioned above is Selenium based

AlbinoniAdagio · 13/01/2024 16:35

Under CarpeVitam ID

ownedbymydog · 13/01/2024 16:36

Betnovate and betacap steroid cream and lotion are the only things that work for me. On prescription from gp, no need - for me - for referral. Flares up when stressed.

TripleDaisySummer · 13/01/2024 16:36

Polytar Scalp Shampoo and T gel sort of work for a time with DS - and I've tried a lot of shampoos and hair products- but Selsun seems to just stop it.
