2 landing attempts and still not down.

I think it's windy there

TAP is down safely!

notimagain · 13/01/2024 12:22

@PatriciaHolm

That Amsterdam one isn't taking off is it?" so they clearly had access to something - though might have also been flightradar on their phones ;-)

Quite possibly. You won't hear London ATC, certainly not the tower communications, whilst sitting on the ground in Berlin.

Phones are wonderful things - What is really weird is sitting on the ground on the flight deck during a long delay and reading comments your passengers are making on social media about your flight not going anywhere....

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 12:22

It's an interesting approach. They seem to turn right slightly just at the headland. I guess it's the mountains?

Ha! I can imagine. I wasn't doing that, promise ;-) it was all quite entertaining! And the flight and landing were actually fine, the delay was completely the right decision.

I've just discovered the 3D view you can get with the Business subscription. Even more fascinating... This is a screen grab of TAP1685 coming into land at Funchal just now...

Warsaw aborting

AnotherAdventFridge · 13/01/2024 12:25

Lisbon also descending, must be a lull in the weather.

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 12:26

Interesting - you can see there is some point where they seem to abort and turn right instead of turning left.

LittleGreenDuck · 13/01/2024 12:26

I thought Warsaw was going to make it, but nope!

Watching Munich now.

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 12:27

Ryanair just entered the hold

Yes they have a defined abort route so they don't smack into a mountain

LittleGreenDuck · 13/01/2024 12:32

Looks like the Lufthansa flight is going for it.

sixfootoffshore · 13/01/2024 12:32

I was at Madeira yesterday and this was happening.

we were on the 1400 BA flight and were sat at the gate for 3 hours watching various planes trying to land

our inbound flight circled for ages, then diverted to Port Santo

they then had another go and landed, did a quick turnaround and got us home thank goodness

it was low cloud cover - at Madeira is sits really low and they cant land when they cant see the runway apparently

but its really changeable - every now and then there is a clearing and 15 minutes or so when some flights can get in

everybody cheered every time a plane landed

the crew said apparently at Madeira when it goes into that holding pattern you only get 2 chances to land - then you have to divert if you have enough fuel

BA and the staff were great. Madeira airport dreadful - they knew it was happening but herded everybody to the gate where we all sat for three hours.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/01/2024 12:32

Munich looks to be going for it.

ConflictedCheetah · 13/01/2024 12:32

Looking that way.

Sorry I did see this thread last night when I couldn't sleep and just jumped back in to join. I'm sick and bored so this is very entertaining

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/01/2024 12:36

I need to go to the Co-op but can’t stop watching. Lisbon looks good.

mybrainisfull · 13/01/2024 12:36

surely Lisbon will make it now

mybrainisfull · 13/01/2024 12:37

This is oddly very fascinating and addictive!

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 12:40

Smartwings has aborted again.
I guess it gets diverted
