2 landing attempts and still not down.

I think it's windy there

how long has BA been trying to land now?

rainyskylight · 13/01/2024 14:40

Currently texting with my mother who is in Madeira right now. She says it’s a little windy misty and rainy but not too bad. She also enjoys flight radar so is keeping an eye out!

ajandjjmum · 13/01/2024 14:40

Nearly 4,500 people watching it now!

Oh bless them on the BA flight. Looks like they’re off somewhere else now

welshweasel · 13/01/2024 14:42

Think the PXO one is going back home!

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 14:42

I do find the patterns interesting - and also how they get the flight paths so consistent for each turn

Two EasyJet and a Tui incoming from Tenerife.

rainyskylight · 13/01/2024 14:42

EasyJet going straight past ….

Probably Porto Santo, or maybe Lisbon? I don't know why I'm guessing, I know nothing.

Right, SWT130 let's be seein' ya!

Edit: never mind, looks like they're returning to Porto Santo.

DCIJackieDeering · 13/01/2024 14:43

Are the EasyJet flights from Tenerife ones they were diverted there earlier? Just wondering if they’re full of passengers who’ve been stuck on there for hours flying between different islands

ajandjjmum · 13/01/2024 14:44

BA isn't gaining height though - does that mean it's just going back into that holding pattern?

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 14:44

Is BA in the hold again!!!!

Looks like it. Maybe the weather conditions are improving.

Joeslaol00 · 13/01/2024 14:45

Son due to take off to Vancouver imminently from Heathrow. Am at work , so cannot keep looking at FR !!

whatausername · 13/01/2024 14:45

Is British Airways still in a holding pattern? 3rd attempt? Crew must be desperate to finish their flight by now😂passengers and pets too.

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 14:46

Looks like PXO is back where it started from

Those poor BA passengers. Surely they’ll divert now.

Prob to Tenerife, where the passengers will hang around for another flight back to Madeira!

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 14:49

What a way to spend a holiday!!

"If the wind is above 15 knots, they cant land. Period."

"The wind"? Really? Which wind? Crosswind, tailwind, headwind?

I didn't tag @ASGIRC in with my further comment, but FWIW the official situation a while back, in 2017 from the Portuguese AIP (official source of info) for FNC was,.... and here comes the techie stuff:

Wind Limitations, When landing:

  1. Maximum of two minutes mean Wind Speed Values indicated by the Touchdown anemometer: • In the sector 300° to 010° MAG (clockwise) - 15KT, with the maximum Wind Gust of 25KT. In the sector 020° to 040° MAG (clockwise) - 20KT, with the maximum Wind Gust of 30KT. In the sector 120° to 190° MAG (clockwise), and if Runway in use is 05 - 20KT with a maximum Wind Gust of 30KT, and if Runway in use is 23 - 15KT, subject also to maximum Wind Gust of 25KT as indicated by MID Anemometer.

2.Maximum of two minutes mean Wind Speed Values, including Gust indicated by the MID or ROSÁRIO Anemometers • In the Sector 200º to 230º MAG (clockwise) - 25KT.

So to cut to the chase when that lot was written while back in 2017 there was no blanket 15 knot limit but it is quite possible rules have changed so I'm ready to be corrected.

shockeditellyou · 13/01/2024 14:50

Looks like the EasyJet flight is going to give it a go, and the BA is going to try again behind it….

DCIJackieDeering · 13/01/2024 14:52

EasyJet looks the too high, wonder if BA will have another go first.

one morning on flight radar and I’m and expert 😂

countdowntonap · 13/01/2024 14:52

We landed with EasyJet this time last year - on the second attempt. I found it quite exciting but I’m a FR fan!

cakeorwine · 13/01/2024 14:53

This would be great in a pub.
Big screen, few drinks.

A potential drinking game!!

EasyJet way too high to be thinking about landing soon. Presume will circle for a while?
