Best cheap place to live in UK?

We are considering moving and buying a house elsewhere in the UK. But we don't have much ,money.
Where is the best place to live in the UK where houses are still relatively cheap?

Teeside - there's some lovely places which are still very affordable

Turefu · 10/01/2024 19:12

@AltitudeCheck That's fair enough. Though, OP mentioned Selby, 20 minutes drive from York, is too expensive. Nearby area of Leeds can be worth checking.

Look around Bacup area in Lancashire. Close to countryside and grammar school. Houses within your budget.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/01/2024 19:12

There's 2 here in OK areas

I'm very keen on the chapel - what an amazing big space 🥰

The areas surrounding Preston maybe?

Dmsandfloatydress · 10/01/2024 19:29

Herefordshire is really pretty and chocolate box. Low crime and excellent schools. Check out Fairfield school. If you have kids it's a good choice. For work you will need to travel though.

[[https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/140908262#/?channel=RES_BUYPenistone, S Yorks, market town north of Sheffield, good schools, lovely countryside, train station and motorway access.

I've proper messed up those links!

Penistone

Clayton West

Pp mentioned lytham st annes, in lytham you won't get much but st annes you would and its lovely. Lovely beach, good independent shops, close to countryside. We live just over the border in Blackpool but I grew up in lytham.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/01/2024 19:39

@alltootired no problems- I also limited it to areas I know aren't bad at all- indeed several are what you would call nice areas - reason I suggested it is it's good for countryside , has a good hospital , isn't on a limb and has tons within budget for you both modern and period.

MarchHareInTheRain · 10/01/2024 19:41

If you really do mean "anywhere" I'd look somewhere like Perth.

Cornwall is much cheaper inland in places like Bodmin, St Austell, Camborne etc than on the touristy coast, OP.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/01/2024 19:45

Barnsley town centre ish walking distance to hospital.

Clayton West again
Suburbs of Wakefield

@Dmsandfloatydress do a search on HD8, WF4, S75 and S36. That's the rural/semi rural bits between Huddersfield, Wakefield and Barnsley. Each of those towns has a hospital? If that's the type of nhs work your DP does. Handy motorway access, nice countryside, but has the advantage of not being so nice recovering by tourists on weekends! But drivable to the Peak District and Dales for other walking.i walk a lot locally though.

Accessible to Leeds and Sheffield if you need a city fix. Manchester is manageable too, if you must!

wallpapercurious · 10/01/2024 19:45

Have a look at Chesterfield - it's not the nicest town (no offence to anyone who lives there!) but very close to the Peak District and to Sheffield, and very affordable

Lou197 · 10/01/2024 19:46

Suffolk - loads of options and beautiful countryside and coast, Good Luck!

Funny you should mention that as it's where I want to move to in future! 😂 the place I live now in Derbyshire is worse than Chesterfield.

greasypolemonkeyman · 10/01/2024 19:47

Skelmersdale, west Lancashire. 12 minutes from Wigan centre and 20 minutes from Liverpool centre. 35 to Manchester. . House prices are still pretty cheap and lots of green spaces.

Scarborough ? close to the North Yorkshire moors and lots of lovely coastline Smile

That’s actually a really nice road, very convenient for schools and hospital

greasypolemonkeyman · 10/01/2024 19:50

@Beezknees sorry! Bits of it are actually very nice! Like biggish place I suppose. My parents live there and find it very good in terms of amenities, transport links, etc.
