Weird virus going around?

Tootsweetrodders · 10/01/2024 07:43

Since the weekend I’ve had this really unpleasant inflammation pain in my lower jaw / upper sides of neck / throat - almost like my glands are up, but the pain is sort of spread around the area. I’ve also got a dry throat but it’s not sore if that makes sense. Feel a bit fatigued but not awful and no other symptoms (barring the usual peri-menopause hell). Anyone got similar or is this just another symptom of failing hormones!?

Wondering if it’s perhaps some odd virus doing the rounds (in SE England).. Anyone else?

I have this currently - exactly as you've described ! Very dry, raspy throat but it's the gland/neck area that hurts rather than my actual throat. I put it down to the cold/dry weather, it's a weird one.

Menomeno · 10/01/2024 07:59

My DD has been complaining of sore neck and swollen glands all week. She had Covid about 3 weeks ago so I assumed it was just a sign that her body is still run down (she already had long Covid). Hope you’re feeling better soon.

It’s very odd! I started to wonder if it was wisdom teeth (mid 40’s!!)😂

Yes I have this right now. I was bad for 3 days. I'm coming out of it on day 5 and haven't really felt unwell just really tired but the pain in my throat when I sneeze!

eandz13 · 10/01/2024 08:09

Very odd indeed, I've kept waiting for more cold symptoms to arrive and they haven't. Neck pain has improved after a week of it - still sound a bit like Batman when I talk, though.

MyFirstLittlePony · 10/01/2024 08:18

I have had two months where my throat aches (but not in cold/flu way, more like it was swollen) and I had a raspy voice and was very tired

But I put it down to stress

But now it's gone and I am not sure if it maybe was a virus after all

Took 2 months though

Am in the South

Weird jaw pain is something I'd see a GP for tbh

IthinkIamAnAlien · 10/01/2024 08:24

I think I've just got this. Throat hurts more than is sore, hurts to swallow and glands swollen. I'm coughing a bit too. Lots of weird viruses about this winter.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2024 08:26

Could it be mumps?

Yes, someone I know has mumps.

Oooh this makes a lot of sense! We've just had a letter from school about making sure all children are up to date with their MMR, I thought it was a bit random.

Uglyducklingswan · 10/01/2024 09:06

Oh wow, I have exactly the symptoms you describe! I’ve been waiting two days for the cold to start but no, just a sore/dry throat and the pain in my neck/jaw (only on the left side for me). I assumed my glands were swollen because I’m getting a cold. I had Covid the week before Christmas so could that still be hanging around? Geez!

Tootsweetrodders · 10/01/2024 10:32

Gawd knows what it is then, it sounds like loads of us have these bizarre symptoms.

I’ve had zero fever or cold symptoms and my throat isn’t sore / it’s just weird.

I think you should phone your gp in case it is mumps. You haven’t been near any pregnant women have you? You might want to give them a heads up if you have.

Cloxs · 10/01/2024 11:47

I had suspected Covid just before and during Xmas. Was really sick - now I feel like I have the feeling of having a virus every day as well. I have burny skin, achey and sore throat and generally exhausted. I thought maybe it was Covid but maybe just a knock on virus? DD Whos 2 was on the sofa for 6 solid days which was totally out of character so whatever it was is nasty.

nether · 10/01/2024 12:16

Sore throat is a common symptom of JN.1 covid that's sweeping the globe at the moment

(masks are being reintroduced in some places, because hospitals are once again buckling under the numbers)

NotFastButFurious · 10/01/2024 12:46

I had Covid since the end of Nov and since then I’ve had a croaky throat / raspy voice, ear ache, sinus pain, swollen glands, sore throat on one side and then the other, blocked nose, you name it, cough that feels like it’s coming from throat rather than chest, anything remotely cold / cough based, I just can’t fully shift it!

buckeejit · 10/01/2024 12:49

I've had mumps thrice & last time was when I was early pregnant. My face & throat swole up loads!

Worrying to hear how bad Covid is doing the rounds. Best up my vitamins. Get well soon!

Tootsweetrodders · 10/01/2024 18:42

Hmm, I don't actually have a sore throat, it's just that the inflammation pain is in that area of my jaw / neck if that makes sense. I can't actually see any swelling although my glands feel a bit up on both sides, but not overly so. My jaw hurts when I open my mouth wide / fully and pain sort of radiates just below my ears.

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 10/01/2024 22:53

Are you really tired with it too? I keep falling asleep on the sofa but that might be because I go to bed late. I'm definitely feeling more tired than normal.

I feel body fatigued more than tired if you get me.

Its driving me a bit potty as the pain isn’t subsiding at all and I just feel rubbish, but not quite rubbish enough to not work.

Can I ask what other symptoms you had with mumps? I’m not sure I have this but am starting to clutch at straws as to what it is!

CharlottePimpernel · 11/01/2024 08:11

I had it last week- my glands in my throat hurt to touch and I was so tired I was in bed by 8 every night.
I don't think it's mumps, I had that in 2004 and I remember it being much worse.

NotFastButFurious · 11/01/2024 08:34

Body fatigued is exactly how I feel! I had 9hours sleep last night and feel like I need another 9!

BallsToAll · 25/01/2024 13:14

Just stumbled across this and currently have something similar. Wondering if you’ve all recovered now? I have a really dry mouth and throat and feeling like I’ve got inflammation in neck/ throat area but not sore. Feels a bit like mucus stuck in throat that I need to keep clearing. Glands are up but no cold yet and it’s been a week now.

Echobelly · 25/01/2024 13:27

Interesting, my husband has been complaining of similar symptoms this week - not like a conventional sore throat but a pain in that general area.
