True Crime Podcasts

Can anyone recommend any good ones?

I've just finished Down the Hill (thought it would never end at one point 😂) and did the Lucy Letby podcast and the subsequent Trial ones by Caroline Cheetham.

Started "vanished" on impact podcasts but not the biggest fan of the style of it / the guy that presents it to be honest.

Gangster
The Great Post Office Scandal (I’d say that counts as true crime)

The Lady Killers podcast (on BBC Sounds) is excellent.

These are great thank you!!!

Saving this list to work through, especially as like PP said sometimes you just don't gel with the host so good to have options.

I honestly don't mind either storytelling or investigative / format etc.

Mens Rea is another Irish one I think is excellent. Agree with other posters that West Cork is excellent.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 09/01/2024 17:25

‘Root of Evil’ about the Black Dahlia case, specifically focussing on George Hodel and his family. It is incredibly disturbing though.

EddieMunson · 09/01/2024 17:27

I like The Casual Criminalist (also a YouTube channel) and also enjoyed Sue Perkins recent podcast Carrie Jade Does Not Exist

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 09/01/2024 17:29

‘Vishal’ on BBC sounds. About Vishal Mehrotra, a little boy who disappeared on the day of the Royal Wedding in July 1981. Pocast is by his brother.

Along similar lines, ‘Scamanda’.

CuntRYMusicStar · 09/01/2024 17:36

The Prosecutors are fab and it is interesting to hear from a legal view point about different aspects of the investigations.

Red handed is quite good although a bit samey.

I enjoy crime junkies, I listen to it to fall asleep 🙈

I'm going to try some of the ones on this list!

NYnewname · 09/01/2024 17:41

Truth and Justice.

Anatomy of Murder.

eish · 09/01/2024 17:45

Three doors down (includes a child murder but mostly focuses on how badly the family were treated by police / press etc)
in the dark (first series is a child murder, skip if you can’t do that)

thetworonnies · 09/01/2024 17:56

Carrie Jade Does Not Exist is pretty interesting.

efeslight · 09/01/2024 18:11

I listen to a mix of one off stories and series.
I like Crime Junkie and Redhanded, 9ne off cases, both of which I go back to again and again.
Currently listing to others previously mentioned like Down the hill, about the 2 girls in Delphi, and the French woman murdered in West Cork.
I used to listen to a long running series called Casefile, but the narrator wasn't Australian, like the man speaking now. Does anyone know if this changed?

Winnipeggy · 09/01/2024 18:13

It's an oldie but the first series of Serial is the best podcast you will ever listen to.

SlightlyJaded · 09/01/2024 18:14

OH yes Vishal was really good. One of the best researched you'll ever hear. Research on Teacher's Pet was also excellent.

Pootle40 · 09/01/2024 18:26

flipent · 09/01/2024 16:39

Can't see that any one has mentioned Red Handed.
Real mix of crimes and generally a different one covered each week.

I can never get the hype on red handed. I sometimes find the humour of the two women highly at odds with the subject matter......

İcantusethat · 09/01/2024 18:28

Where is George Gibney (though it is harrowing).

Believe in Magic

Pootle40 · 09/01/2024 18:28

Your Own Backyard
the Teacher's pet
The lady vanishes

All top notch focusing on one particular case with fascinating outcomes.

I love Casefile especially the older ones with the other guy doing it. Some of the episodes are brilliant.
Teachers pet had me hooked and there’s an Irish one called The Witness which would break your heart. So good!

I thought it was the same presenter through out for Casefiles?

nowthelighthasgone · 09/01/2024 18:39

Casefiles
True crime all the time (and the unsolved version)
Generation why podcast
Most notorious!

constantreader · 09/01/2024 18:48

Casefile is excellent, and one I've listened to from the start (and has always had the same guy, perhaps production is more polished now than in the early days?)
Sinisterhood
Swindled
Bad People (though it's recently wrapped up but should be dozens of back catalogue on BBC Sounds)
Uncanny
Hunting Warhead
Cold
Fairy Meadow
Chasing Ghislaine

manipulatrice · 09/01/2024 18:49

Psychopedia on Spotify is very good

TiredandLate · 09/01/2024 18:50

Serial, if you haven't already listened. Got me into crime podcasts.

I'm listening to Redhanded at the moment, and the odd Casefile but I find him a bit too monotonous/soothing almost and tune out a bit, then realise he was describing a brutal massacre and not tomorrow's weather 😆

Changedmymind99 · 09/01/2024 18:50

I love morbid! It’s my go to. Will check out some of these

I started Casefile not long ago from episode 1 (2016) and it's the Australian guy.
