Something just happened and I have no explanation for it

Six years ago I was in Belfast (I live in the North of England) and I lost my debit card, I cancelled the card and got a new one. I know for a fact I lost it there because it was in my purse (It was my only card and the one I had been using on my trip to Belfast) and I left my bag on a bus and never got it back.

Today I had a new couch and chair delivered, When the delivery guys left I took the seat cushions off the couch (It’s the kind you can move the cushions and swap them around etc) and there was a debit card there, Picked it up and its the exact one I lost in Belfast six years ago.

Never even sat on this couch yet so it’s not like it fell out of my pocket, because I don’t have any pockets and I don’t have the same clothes I had six years ago, Since losing the card I have decorated my entire flat, All the rooms were empty with no furniture etc as I got it all done room by room, The couch arrived today and the debit card was in the couch.

I’m trying to figure out how this happened and to be honest I'm stumped!

Anything strange like this happened to someone else? Did you ever figure it out?

Wow that is really bizarre !
You haven't applied to join some Darren Brown programme or anything ha.

Years ago at uni I lost a ring I loved. Never turned up.
8 years later, few house moves later and a baby, I came home from work and went to my bedroom to get something. Sitting in the middle of the (made) bed was only the flipping ring! Couldn't believe it.
I hadn't been pulling put boxes or anything that it could have fell out of. So strange.

Mombie87 · 10/01/2024 17:56

Oh another strange coincidence.
When I was a young teen I opened a bank account, got a debit card and random pin number etc as you do
One day my mum asked me to withdraw some money for her and give me her pin. It was the exact same pin as mine! We didn't pick our pins but assumed it was something the bank done as she was my mum/responsible adult etc. We asked one day we were in and they said they wouldn't do that for safety reasons. The bank couldn't believe it either and said the chances of that were one in millions to receive the same pin number as someone in your household.

Zanatdy · 10/01/2024 18:04

you clearly didn’t lose it there and that was another card as it was obviously within your other sofa and somehow got moved into new one. No other explanation

Pliudev · 10/01/2024 18:04

This is what I think: the card was not in your bag when you left it on the bus. When you realised what you'd done it was reasonable to assume your card was in your purse, so you stopped it. But the card was in the pocket of an item of clothing you wore while in Belfast. Once home, it fell from that pocket and went down the side of your sofa. You weren’t looking for it there so you didn't find it.

Spirit Guides play jokes on us sometimes…!
If you are communicating with your guides, they can help you find lost things quickly, which has happened to me twice in the last few years.
If you are interested in these things, I f course. 😊

Not long after meeting my partner, over 35 years ago, he applied for a credit card. When it arrived the four digit code was the same as the last four digits of my landline phone number...which came in quite handy😉

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/01/2024 18:26

There were obviously Mysterious Forces at work here.
Perhaps St Anthony found something that had been lurking unnoticed at the bottom of his in-tray for years, and thought ‘Well, better late than never…’

Butchyrestingface · 10/01/2024 18:30

Lassie Cardie came home.

Another case of failing to read the OP properly.

I keep posting on sensational threads, where the OP never returns. It's a total mystery where they disappear to. Will they be found huddling in someone's newly fitted wardrobe in 10 years time?

Or leap out of a newly-fitted u-bend like Harry Houdini, clutching Shergar, Lord Lucan and the Princes in the Tower?

PurpleLostPrincess · 10/01/2024 18:48

I’ve had the same PIN number on my bank card for decades (I rarely use that account now though!). When I was really poorly, my best friend offered to get some supplies from the shop so I gave her my card to pay for it. This was years before contactless became a thing. When I told her my PIN number, it turned out hers was almost the same apart from one number which happened to be the next number in the sequence… she’d also had hers for decades. Different bank and no shared details 🤷🏼‍♀️

I lived in Thailand for a few years and we went to an Island and snorkelled. Youngest DC for a sea urchin spike in his foot and was hysterical. I was trying to hold him, and get oldest DC back on the boat and a fellow snorkeller came to help. Turns out he was on holiday and he lived in the same tenement building that I’d lived in before I sold the flat to
move abroad (so same address but different flat number)

Handsnotwands · 09/01/2024 14:31

that's v v weird

not as weird but bank card related

DH has had the same PIN since it was auto-issued about a thousand years ago. when we got DD her first account they sent the card and PIN it was the same as DH's (different banks, unconnected accounts).

I'm no mathematician but i'd be interested in the odds of that

Assuming it’s a 4 digit PIN the odds of that are 1 in 10,000

I was having jacket potatoes once. I phoned my DM and yep - she was having them too!!!!

We couldn’t believe it !

Elderflower14 · 10/01/2024 19:05

I went to work as a Nanny to a little girl. Turned out her godmother lived in the flat above my sister in London!

Ooh I love this thread! I bought a book I’d just happened across in Waterstones one day, planning to read it on my holiday. I remember bringing it home and leaving it in the carrier bag in my desk drawer. Holiday came around and I could find this book nowhere. Pulled out every drawer, checked in every bag, pulled every book off the bookcase. Gave up and thought I must have thrown it out, mistaking the bag for rubbish. Was infuriated that I couldn’t remember the name of the book or the author, spent hours googling what I remembered of what it was about. Could picture the front cover so spent hours trawling through Waterstones website. Nothing. Gave up and bought another book for my holiday.
6 months or so later, a day before a weekend away with a very long coach journey, I was sat in bed and heard a slap on the floor. Got up and the book was there on the floor, seemingly fell from thin air! Nothing nearby that it could reasonably have fallen from (that I wouldn’t have noticed it being there before it fell).

When we were married, my husband's ring was quite wide, but it was not comfortable, so we had it cut in half. He wore one half and kept the other in his bedside drawer. He lost the second ring. We searched all over. Twelve years later we had moved house twice and had 2 children. The youngest used to wander around upstairs when he moved from cot to bed. We found the second ring in his fist whilst he slept. It must have been stuck somewhere and he dislodged it, but 12 years and 2 house moves? New furniture, obviously new clothes over 12 years. It felt spooky!

Ilovecleaning · 10/01/2024 19:18

Oh my goodness!,

Ilovecleaning · 10/01/2024 19:20

I CBA to read the whole thread. Was the furniture second hand?

cavalier · 10/01/2024 19:23

Does anyone think that a person might make this up, post it then sit back and watch the fun?
