I get the paper over plastic, which would be better if the tub wasn’t plastic but I have to agree they don’t look as nice.

Honeyroar · 08/01/2024 18:58

No they don’t look as nice by far, and the paper is waxed or has bits of metallic anyway, so hardly recyclable anyway. It did make me laugh that it had “now paper/recyclable” (or something similar) on a plastic tub!

Watchthedoormat · 08/01/2024 19:00

They look drab.
The jewel-like colours were what really made QS appealing.

bendypines · 08/01/2024 19:01

A lot of them were wrapped in foil before anyway, which is recyclable, and the cellophane has been collected by generations of kids for craft projects and been repurposed that way. I don't know why they didn't continue with that, ditch the plastic tub and go back to the metal ones they used to have years ago.

Quality Street started tasting horrible, now they look horrible as well.

Neither use nor ornament.

sprigatito · 08/01/2024 19:02

My tub this year wasn't just disappointing, it was downright mystifying. The wrappers were a strange mix of the new paper ones and the old foil and plastic. The chocolates themselves were almost all bloomed, despite being well within date. Just an utter shitshow and a waste of money.

Comedycook · 08/01/2024 19:04

I don't care about the wrappers particularly but I was so disappointed with the chocolate....so tasteless. Not at all like they used to be.

GaroTheMushroom · 08/01/2024 19:05

they Are horrible now won’t be buying them again. Couldn’t eat them. Just found it off putting

baubletits · 08/01/2024 19:07

They do look awful, but I could forgive that if they tasted good. Unfortunately they just tasted sickly and claggy when I had some this year.

I have low standards when it comes to chocolate, I'll eat almost anything but Quality Street just seemed to leave a coating on my tongue and I felt like I needed some cold water to wash the taste away.
Usually I love quality street 😓

LevelBy · 08/01/2024 19:07

I've stopped buying them because we all hate the orange and strawberry creams and there are always too many in the tub. I couldn't care less about the wrapping but I did prefer the shiny original

BusySittingDown · 08/01/2024 19:09

I still love Quality Street, although they don't have that nostalgic smell when you open the tub now that the wrappers have changed. The rustly cellophane/foil wrappers just seemed like Christmas. Same with roses. The new wrappers are shit - I don't even think the roses ones are recyclable either.

JenniferBooth · 08/01/2024 19:12

The green triangles are disgusting now I used to love them

Allschoolsareartschools · 08/01/2024 19:13

Oh I miss old fashioned Roses with the lovely wrappers & the mini Dairy Milk!
Quality Street look & taste pretty dismal now. I bought a box of Marks & Spencer Big Mix for a change this year & they were pretty decent.

DragonFly98 · 08/01/2024 19:14

They were not wrapped in plastic to start with. They are less recyclable now.

Ewoklady · 08/01/2024 19:15

She’s hilarious 😆

Tommalot · 08/01/2024 19:23

Even the toffee pennies are shit now.

Agree...I also loved the purple ones...they tasted of nothing

I'm glad someone else noticed. They now taste of nothing. The orange hexagon didn't taste of orange either.

I had a whole tub of the green triangles - the bespoke pick your own - and they were yum.

I had heard coffee creams are back in the standard tubs. Is this true?

You can buy them in the tin but they are stupidly expensive.
A better idea is to find someone who has kept the tins from 'olden' days. Buy bags of sweets (not necessarily QS but I got one QS, plus a heroes and a 'purple ones'). Put whatever chocolates you choose into the tin and get ready for the 'proper' smell when you open the tin.

I'm old and have kept some tins to use for storage - but they were stored empty. This year put my wrapped choc stash into the tin ... Tiotally brought back the magic.

Oh, and the size/weight reduction was going on long before the plastic tubs. My 4 tins (starting with a white background one) are all different sizes with the old white one being the biggest

WhatFlavourIsIt · 08/01/2024 19:46

I agree. I had the same rant last night as I ate the last few unwanted orange creams.

JenniferBooth · 08/01/2024 20:25

Ive saved the orange creams and strawberry creams for my hairdresser. She loves them. I cant stand them.

Did anyone else drink the Quality Street Toffee Penny Latte that Costa brought out for Christmas 2021 Was lovely.

Eggsley · 08/01/2024 20:29

We bought a big tin from Costco, there was not a single blue one in the whole tin. Outrageous.

Didydani · 08/01/2024 20:33

Gosh what a thing to be upset about.

I always hated the toffee pennies. I bought them by weight this year and I was allowed to choose which ones so I left all the toffee pennies! I like the new wrappers.
