I get the paper over plastic, which would be better if the tub wasn’t plastic but I have to agree they don’t look as nice.

The tub is fully recyclable- the wrappers weren't- there are different types of plastic!

Don't buy them then, I'm amazed anyone still do.

I think a lot of people buy them out of habit and tradition. I absolutely won't be buying them next year...will try the M&S tub that a pp recommended

Christmas was all about the Quality Street tin and not just the colours but the sound of the sweets in the tin as you moved them around. All that squeaking of the cellophane.....and the colours! And the smell. As a child it was magical.

This year, I filled an old Charlie and Lola tin with various different chocolates collected each week with the food shop, Lindt, M&S, dairy milk. My 18 and 19 year olds were thrilled 😁

Quality street are rubbish., and always have been. This is the first year we have not had them because they are a nostalgic part of Christmas for my husband. He wanted to buy them because he likes the toffees. I suggested he buy some toffees, then, which he did, and we had other chocolates which were preferred by everyone.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind the muted wrappers ?!

Same. Have never bought a tub of chocolates but wouldn’t give Nestle a penny if my life depended on it.

They haven’t always been. They were one of those things that said Christmas for lots of people and were greatly loved. It’s such a shame they’re no longer the product that meant so much.

Finti · 09/01/2024 09:00

Quality street - I got a headache last time I ate them! I never feel (felt) ill from chocolate. Something has definitely changed. Just like with Cadbury’s. Degraded the recipes. still, stops me buying that shit I suppose.

CookieDoughNice · 09/01/2024 09:08

I bought 2 tins of quality street this year, with no clue they were paper wrappers.
I always bought 2 because we’d do crafts with the wrappers. I’ll be buying 0 next year!
Chocolates aren’t nice anymore and they’re not nostalgic/ buying because I always loved making sun catchers etc out of the wrappers and doing same with my children.
It’ll be Heroes & Celebrations only next year!

CookieDoughNice · 09/01/2024 09:17

We still have 1 tin unopened 😔

I don't mind them, I prefer the old wrappers though. Mainly for nostalgic purposes though, I think. In a few years I will have forgotten all about the olden day wrappers 😀.

I even love all the ones everyone hates. Same with all the chocolates. No chocolate goes to waste in our house. The only chocolate I can take or leave is white chocolate but I'll still eat it if it's there.

We did get tins this Christmas (on offer in Tesco) and afterwards gave them to a woman who said she was using them for a project.

bestofall · 09/01/2024 17:29

We had some QS this year...and although the wrappers aren't as pretty, we really didn't like the actual chocolate! What's happened to it?
Claggy and just tasted off! I also bought a bag of just the purple ones but OMG they were just as horrid!
They all went into the bin

TheChippendenSpook · 09/01/2024 18:04

I wish chocolate companies would bring back original chocolate, just for a trial.
We could get to taste them again but more importantly people could see what dross they are buying these days and hopefully boycott.

I know. It's so depressing. There used to be loads of such lovely chocolate available and now it's almost all shit. Why are people still buying it?

I have to say though Quality Street aren't as bad as Roses. We used to always buy Roses at Christmas in our family but they are basically inedible now. Really gross. We threw some away last time I bought them which is unheard of in our house! We all have a sweet tooth! Quality Street are at least edible if not as nice as before (and many of them smaller!!). I don't like the new wrappers either.

Serencwtch · 09/01/2024 19:02

I got a big cardboard cracker thing full of coffee cremes so ecstatic I didn't notice the wrappers.

Which chocolates did you get?

Nitesaredrawinin · 09/01/2024 19:10

Got my kids a box each of Cadburys Chunks, whole nut, white choc, milk choc, caramel and OHHH MY GOODNESS CARAMILK. I nicked a few of them. Better than the Caramac bars that have been discontinued.
