Travel mug, Skoda Octavia

Real first world problem here! Wink

I do a lot of travelling for work and I've got a new car.

My thermal mug (I love it so much I have 3) is a Contigo Byron, and it's too wide for my cup holders.

Can anyone recommend a slimline thermal mug that really keeps drinks warm and doesn't leak?

Ha. I've just bought a ENYAQ and yes the cup holders are too small for a average thermal mug. Why are they so small.

Have u found one that fits yet?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/01/2024 21:14

Sorry, no!

I have been putting my mug in the door pocket though. It kind of works, but it's not very handy for reaching it to drink from.

My thermos one narrows at the bottom - fits in our cup holders where my husbands mug doesn't (similar shape to yours)

Oh my God I have the exact same problem although mine is a Contigo West Loop, so don't try one of those 😁

The only one I've ever seen that looks slim enough (but I haven't actually checked) is the Thermos Super Light one, but it's pricey, and also I'm very loyal to Contigo as they never leak, and ideally I want one I can use one-handed.

Can't believe you have the same very niche problem, OP 😂 the Octavia is perfect in all other ways!

Thermos Super Light Drink Flask Black 470ml | Lakeland

With a 5 year manufacturer's guarantee, the Thermos Super Light Direct Drink Flask keeps drinks hot for 10 hours, and cold for 24 hours. Order at Lakeland.

I have a mk2 Octavia, and I have the same problem. My "good" travel mugs/flasks fit in the door pocket at an angle, but I don't like it.

I got a cheap (£2.50) travel mug from Asda that fits in the centre console cup holders, it does the trick. Doesn't stay warm for aaaaaages, but it's a reasonable compromise. I can always take another hot drink in one of the good flasks and have it later!

Topbird29 · 29/01/2024 22:12

My DH has an Octavia and has same prob
Got him a travel cup a few years back from sains - have just had a look and no branding on it, but is narrower at the bottom (not much help). However, am sure I have seen somewhere that a cup holder enlarger things exist - like a silicone (I think) thing but that goes into the car cup holder and then that holds the travel cup.

Topbird29 · 29/01/2024 22:16

Just googled - car cup holder expander and a few came up.

I have an expanslder- sorry it came with the car but it is solid and fits all cups.

You would think manufacturers would think about those things.

windyworriednight · 30/01/2024 21:24

Bar this travel cup issue are you all happy with your Octavias? Grin

creamcheeseandlox · 30/01/2024 21:27

So a coke can fits in the holders so now just need to find a narrow tall thermal mug that size 🤦🏻‍♀️. Why wouldn't Skoda just make them bigger

Can two of these fit side by side?

Marmalade71 · 30/01/2024 21:28

@windyworriednight very much so 😁
The VRS is the best car I've owned (and my previous 2 were Beemers).
But I do have to agree the skinny cup holders are annoying

Is your insurance mega on it? It’s the VRS estate I’m looking at.

orangeicelollies · 30/01/2024 22:02

@creamcheeseandlox yep that one. Good cup, it has a press down lid which is water tight. Keeps your drink hot enough for a few hours but not so hot you burn your mouth on it

I have a mk2 vrs hatch I love it. I find the insurance OK but the tax and fuel consumption high.

HillyHoney · 30/01/2024 22:28

@windyworriednight I bloody love mine! Bought in 2019 (2016 plate) and has needed very little work other than the expected servicing and maintenance. It just does everything I ask of it, reliably. Insurance is reasonable, tax is peanuts, and boot space is excellent. We're considering a Superb once we've run this into the ground, which will be a few years yet!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/01/2024 23:09

@windyworriednight I currently have the iV plug in hybrid estate, and we've previously had a Scout and a few TDis - all company cars. All great. Would happily own any one of them privately.

I have a 2019 skoda octavia, I sont understand why they out the cup holders on console between the seat right next to the driver seat meaning you have to reach over to use the handbrake.

So I use that bit better the seats that you rest your left arm, had a lid you can lift up I put mg drinks in there.

I don't tend to drink whilst I'm driving though so not really a problem for me.

I do a 75 mile journey first thing in the morning a couple of times a week. I need to take my tea with me!
