Going to Camden market soon for the first time in about 20 years. Looking for food suggestions. I’m a massive foodie so want to try as much as possible.
hit me with your suggestions….

I'd swerve it if you went back in the day. Took my kids a couple of months ago and it is rammed with tourists and tik tokkers. The old market is long gone.

Deathbyathousandcats · 07/01/2024 22:35

It mostly seems to be tatty vans now

cardibach · 07/01/2024 22:36

Last time I went the food part of Camden Lock was pretty good still. However, I prefer Seven Dials market for food these days.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 07/01/2024 22:38

I was disappointed too. Not like it used to be.

Teenagersscarethelivinshitoutofme · 07/01/2024 22:39

It's not remotely the same as it was years ago unfortunately. Absolutely rammed with tourists, crap shops, no personality anymore.

I work in Camden. Buck Street Market is terrible for food- don't go there. The out door market near Dingwalls is mixed- some very nice stuff but some is very Instagram. The indoor market on the lock (if you are walking on the lock from Camden Road it is before you get to the bridge) is about the best I think for food.

newnamethanks · 07/01/2024 22:43

It's pretty unpleasant these days.

tizalinatuna · 07/01/2024 22:45

I quite like Buck Street market! Variety of street food types.

namelessnameface · 07/01/2024 22:49

Bang bang chicken 😍

JamMakingWannaBe · 07/01/2024 22:57

Hans and Gretel desert emporium for pick n mix, lollies, ice-cream and pancakes.

Pretty much this.

I used to go loads as a teenager and buy clothes and quirky bits of art when it was mostly independent stalls and affordable. Visited the place over the summer after a two decade gap and thought it was shite. Expensive, corporate, full of tourists and just...well....a bit soulless.

Go to Borough market for food, it is so much better

Borough is also heaving with people. Camden is ok on a weekday but I’d avoid at the weekend.

LittlePudding1 · 07/01/2024 23:54

@spanishviola everywhere in London is heaving with people

Depends when and where you go.

I was talking to staff from the Savoy and Fortnum and Masons and they are having their best visitor numbers ever. Last time i was at Tower Bridge you could barely walk across because of the crowds. I work in West End and it is pretty much heaving all the time atm

interesting, I drove past (crawled) F&M over the break & i’ve never seen so many people outside/opposite.

mumsytoon · 08/01/2024 18:46

Try Spitalfields for better food.

Saltysausage · 08/01/2024 18:51

It’s so different now, the variety of independent market stalls are gone.
I would look on TikTok to see what foods available.

IIdentifyAsInnocent · 08/01/2024 18:57

The Cheese wheel is good. 😁

Borough Market was insanely busy between Christmas and New Year, I can't believe how long people will queue for food however instagrammable it is

Nazzywish · 08/01/2024 19:17

I went recently after going years ago and could have cried. All the lovely unique one of independents mostly gone, vibe is all touristy and everyone too busy taking pictures kind of thing going on. I have been back with the children and tool then to the hanzel/ greatly shop for ice cream etc but it was disappointing seeing those one off independents gone mostly. P.s there was even a bloody American candy store then when i walked down abit- that was the nail in the coffin for me!

Very touristy though and you need your head examined if you do your weekly shop there.

Choirsinging · 08/01/2024 19:59

Spitalfields will be much better. If you loved Camden years ago, you’ll hate it now.

We used to, when we lived in London —but we were only pleasing ourselves, and got discounts as longtime regulars at some veg places (ie not Turnips’…), plus the produce was wonderful. That part of my life is looong over…
