Electric toothbrushes - one each or just a head each?

I'm looking at a new brush for my son. We currently have 3 (bulky) electric brushes and I wondered about sharing the handle and having a head each. I'm not sure why but it feels a bit weird. Does anyone do this ? I did it with my youngest when he was tiny but he's got his own now. Is it chance to clear space or weird ?

Nope mine is disgusting, I wouldn't inflict it on another human. Its my biggest shame but sometimes I brush my teeth in my bed if I'm really tired so it doesn't get a good clean until the morning.

We have one each. We did try changing the head but we were lazy about it and ended up using manual ones! Having one each works for us.

BarrelOfOtters · 07/01/2024 19:59

No…just no. I wouldn’t trust them to wash it properly. It gets gunky .

Separates if only so people can take them with them if they are away for the night.

sleepysleepytired · 07/01/2024 20:01

One each unless money is tight!

mrsDracoMalfoy · 07/01/2024 20:01

We share a handle and have a head each and manuals for nights away. Not sure how sharing a handle is gross as only the brush goes in your mouth. And heres a novel idea .... keep your handle clean the way you do your head lol.

Family of four here, with two young adult DDs still at home. We have one each for a few reasons - the girls often stay over with their boyfriends; the handle would need charging much more often with four using it, and I don't trust the others to put it on charge; I don't share with my husband as he's crap at keeping his brush rinsed, it's always covered in toothpaste 🤢

Daisy03 · 07/01/2024 20:02

I find they only last so long before the motor dies, maybe 2 years or so, so by sharing you'd just be accelerating that process and end up buying the same amount anyway as buying everyone an individual to begin with?

Reugny · 07/01/2024 20:04

I don't share because I don't want to deal with recharging issues.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 07/01/2024 20:08

We have one each. I'd share with DH if I had to but I much prefer my own.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/01/2024 20:44

We have three shared between 5. We all have different heads. They are removed after use and placed on a stand I bought from Etsy.

Once again the Mumsnet germophobes are out in force.

GreenShadow · 07/01/2024 20:57

Unbelievable! How much of the handle do you stick in your mouth???

Absolutely no reason not to share in our house - we all rinse and wipe it after use.

These things are hardly cheap after all.

CeaselesslyIntoThePast · 07/01/2024 21:06

Ewww. Grim. Didn't occur to me people might share their toothbrush handle.

shoesday · 07/01/2024 21:09

One each and then you're responsible for charging your own

ChangeUsername123 · 07/01/2024 21:10

My kids have their own handle but DH and I share one and have our own heads. I know DH rinses it properly so don’t mind sharing.

flutterby1 · 07/01/2024 21:14

Some are so expensive so decided to share, it's only the handle. You can wash it

LifeIsALemon · 07/01/2024 21:23

Me and DH share. We have one charging plug in bathroom so it stays plugged in and we both rinse the whole thing and take the head off when done so you don't have to remember to swap, just remember which colour is yours.

We've done this for years and the handle has never been gross although we occasionally have to rinse the base which is just from water dripping down onto it after we've rinsed it.

It came with a plastic case that clips to the base and holds 4 brush heads and has a lid so the brush heads aren't in the open air in the bathroom either.

Lemoncurd · 07/01/2024 21:24

One each for us, seems hassle enough to switch heads when someone runs out of charge and borrows another. Eldest has one at home and a second at university so they don't need to keep transporting it.

TheSmallAssassin · 07/01/2024 21:24

We share the handle, the toothbrush heads come off every time, I think it gets really manky otherwise. I always rinse the handle and my head, including the inside of it, so there are no toothpaste dribbles building up.

We have shaver sockets in the bathroom cabinets, so the handle is always on charge when it's not being used and the heads go on their own little pegs. Now we've got two bathrooms, it's one handle between two, all four of us shared when we only had one.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/01/2024 21:30

One each here, and I will confess that I don’t clean the handle as well/often as I should.

LittlEarrings · 07/01/2024 21:42

We share the handle - well two handles between us, and have a little wall mounted covered box thing for the heads to go in, so everyone just removes their head and puts in it the thing after they’ve used it.

Tessisme · 07/01/2024 21:45

We shared a handle when I was a child and I HATED it. So it's a handle each here. I might consider sharing with my DC (they wouldn't want to though) but DP is the messiest brusher I've ever come across. You'd need an umbrella to be in the same room as him😬

embolass · 07/01/2024 21:46

Surely the coloured rings dictate that’s yours, mine , kid 1 kid2 , as they stand next to the taps ? So you know whose is who

AnotherAllotment · 07/01/2024 21:47

I wouldn't share - only because swapping the heads every time sounds like a bit of a faff.

Perfectlystill · 07/01/2024 21:49

We have one each
