Autistic women assemble! #3

Nepmarthiturn · 06/01/2024 18:58

This is a thread for autistic women to connect, chat, vent, laugh, share and seek advice and solidarity (small talk and word mincing not required). 😊

Any autistic women newly finding the thread are very welcome to join us (even if awaiting diagnosis) but we'd be grateful if others could leave us alone please…

Thanks @AlpacaWooly that is very reassuring :)

Hopingforno2in2024 · 05/05/2024 18:19

Another quick question apologies but has anyone been through the assessment process in Wales?

Barbarachicken · 05/05/2024 18:24

@Hopingforno2in2024 you will be fine, I didn't need parental input or any input from anyone who knew me as a child. My memory is also a bit patchy of my younger years. An experienced assessor will be able to diagnose based on your own experience, and how you present, etc. Best of luck!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 11/05/2024 21:21

Hi. How is everyone?

Not a lot to report here, other than I've just been through the Tax Credits to Universal Credit upheaval. Lots of worry, but all good in the end. Saw the Northern Lights here last night and it was a magnificent spectacle. I was buzzing (all on my own in the garden at midnight, haha)

.@Hopingforno2in2024 sorry, I can't help. I'm half Welsh, but was diagnosed in England. Hopefully the process isn't too different to what most of us here have been through.

TheShellBeach · 12/05/2024 11:03

@Hopingforno2in2024 my parents were long dead when I was assessed, and I'm NC with my sisters.
The assessor was still able to diagnose me. I hope things go smoothly for you.

JewelleryCat · 12/05/2024 14:05

Did anyone manage to see the Northern Lights either on Friday or yesterday?

Segway16 · 12/05/2024 14:44

Could I join please! No diagnosis yet. I’m getting round to a private diagnosis. I have ND children which has caused me to consider my own possible autism. Considering that I may be autistic suddenly makes my whole life up until this point make sense.

Hi JewelleryCat. Yes I did and they were magnificent. I could have cried with joy. Standing in my garden for an hour, just squeaking with delight. Here's a couple of pics I took.

Hi Segway and welcome. It's quite a common route for a lot of us to go down after having kids diagnosed as ND. Also very similar experience of feeling like your whole life makes sense once you consider / understand you're Autistic.

You're in good company, in other words.

They look amazing! You got more colours than me, all I got were green and pink

I'm still stunned by it all, tbh. This was on the Friday evening. I did go out a few times last night, but there was only the very faintest glow. No fancy pants camera trickery either.

Mine wasn’t fancy pants trickery either. When I take photos, what you see is what you get, I don’t edit anything in photoshop

Thanks! Very nice to hear I’m not alone (for once)

Good morning everyone, I have a course today so I am going to be in a classroom for 3 weeks. My ND will go in to hyperdrive, also just had cold and flu tablets a day now worry if they may conflict or make me ill with my adhd tablets?

I am going to need my adhd meds for this course which is awesome but it will be tough as I know I will irritate the class (I have to participate or I switch off)

hendoop · 13/05/2024 06:10

I am also freaking out due to a change of routine, I can't cope with my day to day routine changing and this course means I am in the office 5 days this week

Driving to a different place but it does have a gym at least

I just hate change and then it's going to be the holidays so I hate going on holiday too

ThreeBeanChilli · 13/05/2024 06:32

I need a different job.

But I find it so hard to imagine being in a different job I get too scared (not quite the right word) to apply as I discount everything I see.

I literally have no idea how to progress. I am amazed when I meet people who do better paid jibs as I think "oh you aren't cleverer than me" and constantly wonder how people do this.

I have 2 degrees, struggled as a classroom teacher and now not sure what next. It's like I don't want to apply for teaching jobs but can't work out how to progress into other things.

I so wish I'd done something else earlier on.

ThreeBeanChilli · 13/05/2024 06:34

I earn 15k currently in adult Ed. I like it. I work most days though, lots of unpaid commuting and peopling and not flexible for my kids who are struggling at school.

It uses lots of professional skills and I help people. But it pays peanuts.

Help.
MN have shared one of my posts to Facebook and a few of my friends have seen it and know its me because of the details.
I'm worried they're going to read my other posts, the one I've posted is nothing bad but I have mentioned personal things on others.
I've reported to Hq but is there anything else I can do 🤦🏻‍♀️😩

Can you delete the thread / change your username? I really wish they wouldn’t share everything to Facebook, it’s really shitty.

It would be a shame to have to change user name, but I don't have anything useful to advise I'm afraid.

I had forgotten that MN share stuff on FB. I guess it's always worth bearing that in mind. I always think I wouldn't care if I was outed in real life, but then I probably would (especially if I felt it was unexpected / against my will)

Justploddingonandon · 13/05/2024 11:42

You could ask them to delete the thread. I try not to post anything too outing for this reason ( though someone who knows me may well be able to piece it together from all my threads/comments) and if not sure change username just for that thread. Realise it doesn't help now but something for the future.

JewelleryCat · 13/05/2024 11:44

I agree with the others, delete the thread and if you want to post anything, just change your username then revert back to your original one. I didn’t know MN posted stuff to FB. Wouldn’t they need our permission?

Justploddingonandon · 13/05/2024 11:45

They have your permission. It's in the terms and conditions no one reads when they sign up ( that's probably a whole other thread!)

TheShellBeach · 13/05/2024 12:05

@AuDHD4Me

Ask them to give you a generic change of name for that thread only.

This happened to someone else recently and she was almost doxxed. MNHQ gave her a name like @ yr57jg for that thread and let her keep her usual name everywhere else.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 13/05/2024 14:35

Lesson for me I suppose.
They're sorting it
