I think I'm correct with this - housemate with knife

Housemate has become increasingly violent and stole an antique knife of mine night before twelve night. NC as embarrassing, one of my friends on here would recognise this instantly so hello.

I know that he has been to prison before but not sure if that was for physical violence or knives.

I do have a right to check, don't I?

I would think so. I would also report the knife missing to the police.
A quick google search threw up this company, but there were others

Yes. I'd be trying to move houses and get a lock on your door if you don't already.

Sheepbaaaa · 06/01/2024 06:19

Police are involved and will get back. It literally only occurred to me early this morning that his background might make this more urgent.

I would do everything you can to protect yourself; this behaviour makes it seem like he is planning an attack very soon. Can you stay elsewhere for a couple of nights, and move out ASAP?

Sheepbaaaa · 06/01/2024 06:34

I didn't mean this to be overly dramatic, sorry. Twelve night I was just annoyed and asked him to give it back.

I was up early this morning and then it occurred to me that he has a prison record which I think was for knives so phoned 101 and they will get back to me.

I wondered if I had a right to know what prison sentence was for. I'm about to go out for early morning walk but will keep my phone on me.

I think I do have a right to know though? Yes I absolutely could travel to a friend's for a few nights respite

Planning an attack?? I think that's a bit dramatic.

Sheepbaaaa · 06/01/2024 07:06

I don't think he's planning an attack it's just that it makes me feel uneasy if his prison sentence was about knives. It puts a different perspective on things.

I'll keep in contact with police and try to get an answer as to what prison was for.

What do you mean a right to check?

Do you mean a Clares law check?

Dogsitterwoes · 06/01/2024 07:12

Google him.

Wakemeup17 · 06/01/2024 07:12

I would be moving as soon as possible out of the household with a violent housemate.

Ducksinthebath · 06/01/2024 07:15

Is “twelve night” Twelfth Night as in yesterday or twelve at night, as in they were sneaking around in darkness?

Yes this is along the lines of what I meant, similar. I think I should have a right to know.

I'll just have to wait for police to get back!

Oops sorry I meant yesterday. Knife went missing early hours yesterday as I'd left it out to slice an apple for the morning. He stole it. I asked him to put it back in the kitchen and he refused.

It was only early this morning that I made the connection between his previous criminal past and possession of an antique 9 inch sharp blade.

I am not sure if housemates can have a Clare’s law check at the moment.

and I don’t think, even under Clare’s law, they give details.

highlo · 06/01/2024 07:27

I really don't get the 12th night reference? Why is it so relevant?

TheShellBeach · 06/01/2024 07:27

Why were you going to use an antique 9 inch knife to chop an apple?

Because my other knife was stolen so I only had my grandmother's

It's not really relevant just keeps coming up in my calendar so I think of it as such.

Anyway I want to relax now and listen to some music.

So he stole 2 knives?

Ducksinthebath · 06/01/2024 07:34

Who owns only two knives, one antique?

This is very strange.

RaininSummer · 06/01/2024 07:37

I don't suppose this was the only knife the thief had access to if he was planning to do something dodgy. Maybe he liked it so took it. Also not great behaviour in a housemate.

Would the police tell you this, privacy laws?

Who has two knives stolen at separate times feels more pressing to me for some reason 🤣🤣

This post is weird.
