Hosting 4 adults 5 kids - what would you dish up?

MissAtomicBomb1 · 05/01/2024 16:34

Friends are coming over for the evening soon with their kids.
1 adult is a veggie, The other is fairly bland in their tastes. Doesn't like veg!
The kids are fairly standard, no allergies or intense dislikes.
I'm thinking pizzas so everyone can just pick what they like, served with lots of sides but is that boring?! Any other ideas welcome!

one meat lasagne
one veg lasagne
salad
garlic bread

TheGriffle · 05/01/2024 16:36

Pizza and some jacket potatoes bunged in the oven? Then cheese, coleslaw, beans as toppings?

withthischoice · 05/01/2024 16:37

have you just started the thread about bad luck?

withthischoice · 05/01/2024 16:37

oh sorry wrong thread!!

DNAwrangler · 05/01/2024 16:38

Veggie spag bol
fajitas so everyone can choose their own fillings

bendypines · 05/01/2024 16:38

Jacket potatoes or wedges, sausages (and veggie sausages), grated cheese, baked beans, tomato, onion and peppers traybake with some green salad on the side? Followed by a giant apple crumble.

Alwaystired2023 · 05/01/2024 16:38

Love the 'doesn't like veg' 🤣

No pizzas are fine, sounds like a good shout for this crowd, could always do a pasta dish (or lasagne as PP suggested) and a nice big salad (not for non veg liking adult) to make it a bit more exciting!

StephanieSuperpowers · 05/01/2024 16:38

Delivery pizza and wedges. Make it easy.

Honestly, she's an absolute nightmare if we go out. Nothing can be eaten as it comes on the menu, this & that has to be taken off. She basically eats only beige food!

Thanks all, these ideas are great!

Different types of burgers, maybe, then toppings to be selected if that's not too faffy for your kitchen? Chips or wedges and salad on the side. I wouldn't go with fake meat unless you know your vegetarian guest likes it, but Little Ms Bland could have hers her own way without it affecting anyone else.

Alwaystired2023 · 05/01/2024 17:21

Oh love her, some people are like that, embrace it with onion rings and chips?! Make it your easiest hosting ever 🤣

You're feeding 9 people this evening and you haven't decided what to have by 4.30pm? Mind blown!

Yes, pizza is boring.

Thanks for your helpful input Hmm
By 'soon' I meant in the near future, not tonight.
Do you have any ideas beyond 'pizza is boring'? Or did you just pop in to be a dick?

You said "is pizza boring?"

Brisket or pulled pork, coleslaw, nice bread rolls, salad, and a veggie option

underneaththeash · 05/01/2024 18:12

What age are the children?

craigth162 · 05/01/2024 18:12

JingleSnowmanTree · 05/01/2024 18:15

Beamur · 05/01/2024 18:16

Pizza is a good call.
Add a salad and wedges or garlic bread and it's fine dining 😁

MissAtomicBomb1 · 05/01/2024 18:16

underneaththeash · 05/01/2024 18:12

What age are the children?

They are between 7-12.

Some great ideas, thanks so much! 🙏🏻
I'm thinking I'll do a few pizzas for my beige loving friend then perhaps add in something else such as the pulled pork or lasagne

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/01/2024 18:22

A good pizza is not boring. When I go to a friend's house I like to eat something low stress they can prepare easily while chatting. When people try not to be boring there is a greater chance of goats cheese or fruit in savoury dishes, or Thai food that makes my face turn puce, or a vegetable lasagne full of courgette.

I am never sorry to hear that we will be having pizza Smile

ButteryBiscuitBaseBiscuitBase · 05/01/2024 18:56

I'd order out 😂
