I was in bed for a week before Christmas, details in post, anyone else flattened over Christmas….

Stre throat, sinusitis and I slept on and off for hours and hours for days on end, today is first day in three weeks that I have felt remotely normal.

In that time I tested for Covid five times every time negative, I felt so bad I was sure it had to be.

I have not had Covid, so I was convinced that no one could feel this poorly without it being Covid.

Was I the only one.

My aunts have been admitted to hospital 3x this year with viruses, never covid. RSV, influenza, something else. They are age 67 & 71, have other diagnosed health conditions so are vulnerable.

Greenshake · 05/01/2024 00:19

Nope! I had a horrible virus/sinus thing that kicked off in October and lasted for weeks. COVID tests were negative, but it felt very similar to when I had COVID in 2020 and I know I had been exposed.

ToThineOwnSelf · 05/01/2024 00:19

Sounds almost identical to my experience, only just getting over it now

CherryBlossom321 · 05/01/2024 00:22

Yep. Illness started last week of November. Just turned a corner today. All kinds of bizarre symptoms but main ones flu like.

ComfortableAtLastTookLongEnough · 05/01/2024 00:25

Thank you, no one in the house caught nor any of my close friends, so I was beginning to think I was malingering..

We all had the same op - my whole family had it. Sinusitis, kids had fevers, my daughter has had a hacking cough for over a week, me and Dh have been knocked sideways. Covid negative the whole way through.

likewise a cab driver said the same thing to me yesterday, as have lots of friends… I’m guessing it’s a Covid-like virus. Rest up if you can, hope you’re on the mend soon.

VeryInteresting12 · 05/01/2024 00:32

Yep
3/4 of us in my house.
multiple covid tests, swabbing throat, cheek and up the nose and three different types of test.
over the space of a fortnight. all negative.
fever, sore throat, headaches, and the coughing. My partner has a possibly cracked rib from the coughing.
Turning a corner now, but tbh I’m now depressed which is very unlike me.

VivienneDelacroix · 05/01/2024 00:34

Yeah, husband and I have had it. Also tested negative for Covid. I think it's flu. I've had shivers, fever, breathing difficulties, cough, muscle aches, swollen eyes, fatigue, weakness, complete loss of appetite. I tried to go back to work today but my manager held me back after a meeting and told me to log off and go back to bed.

DH and DS had it for a good two - three weeks before it finally got me. I didn't get COVID when they did either.

Last week was pretty miserable feeling ill. I know someone else who had it last week and I know someone else who has it this week. Partners of both don't have it (the former's had it a couple of weeks before but the latter's hasn't had it yet).

RhianMor · 05/01/2024 00:46

Sounds like flu. Proper flu. Takes weeks to get over.real flu. Also Whooping Cough is making a big come back apparent
ly.

CovidOvid · 05/01/2024 00:51

I've had exactly the same thing since Xmas eve. I had antibiotics which helped my throat. However I still have a terrible cough and think I could also have COVID, but keep testing negative. Also salty food now tastes incredibly salty, which just seems like COVID, but apparently it's not.

With mine, I had shivers but no fever, brain fog, and my blood oxygen was measuring low, and my heart rate faster than normal.

Hope you get better soon OP

Allfortheloveofabiscuit · 05/01/2024 00:57

I had this too, I was completely flattened with it. Stayed in bed for 4 days which is very unlike me, and I'm still not quite right 3 weeks later. All covid tests negative, swabbed for flu at the gp and no come back so Im assuming it was something else

ItchyMaryHavingAFag · 05/01/2024 01:17

I’ve had this on and off since early November. I think it’s been two different illnesses. I’ve not tested for CoVid.

Hacking cough is the worst. And now I feel down.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 05/01/2024 01:17

I started to feel unwell Christmas Eve. I can always feel something brewing for days before it eventually hits. Managed to get through Christmas Day cooking for us all. Then the day after Boxing Day, I was utterly floored. Woke up in the middle of the night with a fever, chills, body aches and felt like my throat was closing in on me.

Thank god GP was opened and I got prescribed a 10 day course for a bad bout of tonsillitis. I felt it going into my chest but it's clearing up now.

Being ill + having a baby & a toddler was hard going. Spent the first 24 hours in bed away from LO, then I had to move to the sofa to help DP somewhat 😩

Sceptre86 · 05/01/2024 07:04

I had this. Started on the 19th with a red eye didn't think much of it. On the 20th woke up and it was conjunctivitis. By the evening I had a fever, chills and body aches, plus a sore throat. I spent the next few days in bed. I started to improve by the 27th December. My temp was as high as 41.8. I tested for covid 3 times but it was negative each time. Dh took care of all 3 kids, cooked xmas dinner and just took over as I was wiped out.

reluctantbrit · 05/01/2024 07:36

We had it the week before Christmas, the cough especially was bad.

But DH and I still feel rough after doing something remotely strengthnous.

We all had the flu jab and I don't want to know how bad it could have been if the flu hit us fully, I think we only got bits of it.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 05/01/2024 08:14

DS started with this just before Christmas, we (DH and I) are about a week behind in symptoms. I've been floored for a week now.

LimitedBrightSpots · 05/01/2024 08:29

I have been ill since the end of November. A horrific eye infection, followed by a very painful ear infection that has left me still temporarily deaf in one ear (perforated eardrum), accompanied by general flu symptoms and bronchitis and recently sinusitis. Had just started turning a corner the past couple of days but have woken up with a queasy tummy and diarrhoea so it is unclear what new hell is in store for me. My two little children have also been unwell/unsettled so, between this and the hacking cough, I've not really slept more than 3-4 hours in a row during this time and have been up constantly comforting them and changing vomit-covered sheets, including when I couldn't see more than half a metre out of streaming blood-shot eyes and was in extreme pain. I haven't eaten properly in weeks since after making beige oven food and some boiled veg for the kids, I'm too exhausted to do anything for me except collapse. My "D"H has mostly avoided us by claiming to be "busy" at work and retreating to the office or our home office, so I've decided this is the year that he's getting booted out of our lives (well, mine at least, up to him what sort of father he wants to be without a resident drudge/nanny around) - he will have all the time in the world for work in future.

Sorry for the moan but thought I'd take advantage of this thread - writing it down is cathartic.

Greenshake · 05/01/2024 08:42

@LimitedBrightSpots raising my coffee cup to you and sending love 🌷

Ulysees · 05/01/2024 08:49

@LimitedBrightSpots I'm so sorry about the H. Glad you're getting rid. Get well soon.

I had a fever Monday during the night and temple is tender now. I'm in my 50s and Google says could be temporal arteritis? I'm going to do an econsult.

Hope you all start feeling well again very soon 💓

drowningintinsel · 05/01/2024 08:53

I've had similar for two weeks and still feel really down. I'm annoyed as my time off and having Christmas was ruined. But can't be helped I suppose.

wasanneofcleves · 05/01/2024 08:54

I was exactly the same. Started with a knife like sore throat, then total blockage of the sinuses, then awful headache. Cough too. Took me a week to recover from the worst of it but still have a cough and snotty nose. Total loss of taste and smell too. Smell is back but taste only partially back. I tested for covid once but it was negative.

Cazziebo · 05/01/2024 09:00

Me, too. Had a bad cold earlier December. Got back to work for a few days then was just hit with headache, sore throat, shivers, sore joints. Tested positive for Covid. Had a couple of good days and then wham - terrible stomach pains and diarrhoea. I've lost a stone since December and still have no appetite at all.

Rubbish Christmas this year!

loudbatperson · 05/01/2024 09:27

I was in and out of hospital in December including over Christmas, but not virus related.

However heard a lot about how under pressure the hospital was and it was largely down to Covid, flu and RSV.

From what I heard there is a particularly nasty strain of RSV at the moment, which is landing a lot more people in hospital than usual, even for this time of year.

Shadowsindarkplaces · 05/01/2024 09:30

I've been ill off and on since September. I was ill over Xmas, and I still have a headache and sore throat. No voice much to the amusement of my colleagues.
