I have been living off cheese and carbs

and sugar and I feel rubbish. Embarrassingly, my fruit and veg, and even protein, intake has been minimal.
I can't believe I carried on for so long but I've felt like I've had no energy which isn't surprising considering what an atrocious diet I've had.

I'm making some healthier food today (bean chilli) and have had a satsuma and apple. Onwards and upwards.

Who else needs to get out of this slump?

Me. I've just inhaled a bag of giant foam shrimps & bananas. 550kcal. Bosh. Surprised I don't have cirrhosis of the liver the amount of shite I eat...

EmpressSoleil · 04/01/2024 16:13

I thought this was going to be a celebration of the fact! We're having fondue tonight so I'm no help I'm afraid.

newnamenewmane · 04/01/2024 16:13

This sound like me, but add in wine.

And I'm still on the Christmas chocolate.

LividCake · 04/01/2024 16:14

Ditto.

And I have no money and doing Dry January, so all that's in the house that's close to 5 a day is basically chocolate orange.

We're "finishing off the cheese" tonight. Crackers, fresh bread plus DH found a Camembert in the vegetable crisper so we're baking that. We will have grapes and onion marmalade with it. Vegetables and fruit are still important to us....
Also finishing off the homemade sloe gin!

MysweetAudrina · 04/01/2024 16:21

I've been having cheese and apple for lunch this week. Protein, calcium and fruit. Seems perfectly healthy to me.

I didn't know sugar gave you cirrhosis, I thought it was alcohol related 😮

CuriousityKilledThePussy · 04/01/2024 16:29

My diet officially starts tomorrow. It still felt like the Christmas period while the tree was still up but I've just taken it down so properly back to normal now

Just cheese and apple? No bread, crackers at alletc?

Not sugar specifically, but a poor diet will. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can lead to cirrhosis.

In my own case I'm kidding though. I'm not fat, but my diet has been appalling the last few months!

sodyouraynauds · 04/01/2024 16:47

Cheese isn't unhealthy, I've just had a cheese salad.

bendypines · 04/01/2024 16:52

Me. I am supposed to be fending off the onset of T2 diabetes, and I'm not making a very good job of it at the moment.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 04/01/2024 16:55

Same, cheese and biscuits but to my credit I've been adding pickled onions (that counts as veg, right??) 😁
I feel sluggish and lethargic but can't be bothered to do anything, a combination of Xmas food still in the house and it's just that miserable time of year

mamaduckbone · 04/01/2024 16:57

Me. I'm definitely feeling like it's time to get back to normal. I made a big pot of roasted veg soup for lunch which felt good.

I've still eaten a shit ton of sugar though. Until the Christmas goodies are all gone there's no hope, and Dh came back today with a massive box of lebkuchen for 20p from Lidl, which hasn't helped.

strawberryandtomato · 04/01/2024 17:00

Still drinking lots of wine and eating cheese. But also lots of gut healthy food and at least 7 portions of fruit and veg per day. Plus water and exercise. It's about balance 🤪

Consideringachange2023 · 04/01/2024 17:02

Yup me too. Started to overhaul my diet a few days ago and so far going ok. Have cut down refined carbs but still having veggies and fruit.

if you like cheese and bread and “picky bits” then try going for a platter style lunch or dinner. I like to do this .
plate filled with carrot batons, celery sticks, hummus, cottage cheese, grapes, apple slices or go sour and have pickled onions, gherkins, olives etc.

as long as the majority of your plate is loaded with crudities and snacky fruits you can then have a decent amount of dip of choice (cottage cheese great for protein), hummus is good for you. Add some boiled eggs for more protein and good fat content (for satiety) and you’ve got yourself a really filling, delicious, feels-indulgent-but-it’s-not dinner that will help the transition from Xmas mindset to healthier choices

Cheese isn't unhealthy, I've just had a cheese salad.

It can be depending on the amounts eaten. It has calcium and protein but it's full of fat and calories so best eaten in moderation if a person wants to be eat healthier.

SweetPalOMine · 04/01/2024 17:06

I was initially annoyed and then grateful that the post-Xmas chocolate/stollen/panettone bargains have been slim this year. Unlike me.

We overbought chicken liver parfait for Christmas lunch. Am trying to convince myself that it's OK if I spread it thinly on oatcakes, instead of spreading liberally on freshly baked bread.

Ontobetterthings · 04/01/2024 17:21

Same here! That's all I was eating over Xmas and drinking booze. Started clean eating Mon and felt terrible! Had vomiting and diarrhoea. Then so lethargic. I heard it could be keto flu.

headcheffer · 04/01/2024 17:24

Just to give you a boost in the right direction - I've been eating well (three healthy balanced meals and one healthy snack, plus two chocolates from the Christmas boxes so nothing drastic!!) this week and I feel so much better. I had horrible under the skin spots and looked awful and am already starting to look better too!!

I've lost all the Christmas bloat in just a few days. Crazy what eating and drinking too much can do to you though isn't it!

jamsandwich1 · 04/01/2024 17:24

Meeeeeee. I still have loads of leftover cheese and food 🥴 once it’s gone I’ll get out of my Christmas habits!

TheScenicWay · 04/01/2024 23:56

We still have a Camembert left. It needs to be baked. But today is a bit better. Felt I'd taken in a few nutrients at least.

I'm going to make leek and potato soup tomorrow. Excited for the veg
