If anyone is bored please give me your thoughts!

i am looking at wall murals and I’m not sure I’m brave enough. It’s for a 3m wall in our shared playroom/ living room space, the room is sort of divided into 2 and I’d like to demarcate/ “zone” the play area a bit but not with anything too childish as it’s our only living space. I would have to look at it every time I walk through the door but not when sat on the sofa.

or are they both awful and any other ideas ? 😅 I know other companies do more variety but they tend to be 2-3 x the price

I wouldn't bother OP with either your choices or any one else's. I think colourful rugs and a few cheerful pics if you really want to mark it as a 'kids' area. Much easier for a potential buyer to see beyond the furnishing than having to think about stripping wall paper (not everyone likes to 'just' paint over it').

I like the 1st one

@NotFastButFurious fair enough! Definitely get they aren’t everyone’s taste. We are hoping to sell in the next 1-2 years so I’m nervous of putting people off but equally still want to put something up/ still do things I want to the house.

I definitely want the more neutral colours rather than very bright so maybe that’s why it looks wintery?

I don't like either but my taste is more classic. I think they look a bit tacky (so sorry to say!) This would put me off when viewing too. Would have to redecorate straight away.

Give0fecks · 05/01/2024 08:23

i do value everyone’s feedback. It’s certainly not what I would consider the height of taste either, except I feel quite limited by the type of house we have. Bog standard 60s bungalow conversion with too much upvc….. I’d love to put something classic or more expensive up but it would probably clash with the house. If I lived in a glorious Victorian villa or some such then I would defo go more classy!

If you live in a 60s house, could you embrace a 60s type of vibe (decoratively?) No need to go full-on set design, but I often think the clean lines of 60s houses really suit the simple prints and clear colours of the 60s era. Geometrics rather than wistful artsy florals, for example. You could really have fun with a 60s house.

Do you have a link for the blossom tree please?

I’m gonna shamelessly plug my friend who sells amazing wall paper prints on Etsy, they do it all themselves (apart from the art itself). They have amazing reviews and ratings! Loads of cool choices too.

I think the 1st is definitely the best, and actually quite lovely. I can imagine how I'd style the soft furnishings and decorative bits and bobs to go with it. But I can't imagine it in a play area.

Have you considered something with a William Morris type print? I work in people's houses and see all kinds of decor. I once went to a house where they'd used a a very William Morris-esque mural in the family/playroom and then added some nice bright soft furnishings. It was both suitable for a kids playroom but still suitable when they used it for entertaining other adults. It looked really nice.

Whenever I see these walls I always think of Hilda Ogdens living room, but each to their own!

Haha. All that’s missing is the flying ducks. They don’t make interior designers like Hilda Ogden anymore.

I'm not usually keen on murals but I really like the rainforest one - it's beautiful without being too dominating, and would create a relaxing atmosphere. It would also be great in a bathroom, but you'd need a bigger one than mine. I'd happily buy the rainforest, but the second mural is a bit grey and boring.
