If anyone is bored please give me your thoughts!

i am looking at wall murals and I’m not sure I’m brave enough. It’s for a 3m wall in our shared playroom/ living room space, the room is sort of divided into 2 and I’d like to demarcate/ “zone” the play area a bit but not with anything too childish as it’s our only living space. I would have to look at it every time I walk through the door but not when sat on the sofa.

or this one

or are they both awful and any other ideas ? 😅 I know other companies do more variety but they tend to be 2-3 x the price

It's not black and white

dinglyping · 03/01/2024 23:55

I like that a lot @Redpaisley

I love the 2nd. First is fine. I like the dramatic natural feel. I cant quite picture using it to divide space though. @Wildernesstips yours looks amazing.

Falkenburg · 04/01/2024 00:35

Both look cold and dreary.

MissedItByThisMuch · 04/01/2024 02:41

I like them both - the second one better as decor, but for a play area would probably go with the first. I don’t like any of the subsequent ones you or others have posted (except PP’s bedroom with mural 2!)

But then I prefer muted neutral tones and detest anything “cheerful” or “pretty” as decor!

Rattenbury · 04/01/2024 03:00

Speaking from experience - I’d probably go more for a scrubbable paint if it’s for a play area, with possibly some decals higher up to add some interest and decor?

Rattenbury · 04/01/2024 03:01

Chocovenyl make some lovely decals / wall stickers

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/01/2024 04:14

I like the second best.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 04/01/2024 08:37

I like both and find neither dreary or depressing. I live in the lake District so anything mountains/trees etc feels calming and nice to me... But I also go for walks in the rain alot so it's possible I'm the odd one 🤣

My teenager has a mostly black bedroom. When someone mentioned it on here, everyone said it was depressive/would make them depressed etc. it's actually really cosy in there and feels like a safe place.

What I'm trying to say is, it depends on if YOU like it and how it makes you feel. We had a baby style mural in here when we bought. I just stripped it. it didn't affect our decision to buy in the slightest. I think either will be nice but have been trying to find a place for #1 somewhere in here for the past year or so... Would be fab to see it up when you do decide which one to get.

bravotango · 04/01/2024 08:54

I would prefer some stripes on the wall rather than a mural - you could paint the whole room in one colour and then some vertical white stripes over the playroom bit?

Arrivederla · 04/01/2024 09:04

I've just looked again at the first one you posted op, and changed my mind a bit - it's not as dreary as I thought!

I think the problem, though, is the idea of a playroom area with what seems like very 'grown-up' understated colours and designs. I get that you don't want primary colours, but could you go for a different colour on that wall? For example, if the rest of the room is painted in a stone colour go for a soft teal for the playroom wall? Just a thought.

(Doesn't have to be teal, obviously! Farrow and Ball website might give some inspiration).

FortunataTagnips · 04/01/2024 09:10

I still like the first one best of all the options posted. The second Graham & Brown one is nice, too. The first G&B looks as if it needs a high wall, as most of the detail is at the top.

LadyEloise1 · 04/01/2024 09:33

NotFastButFurious · 03/01/2024 19:51

I don’t like either, they feel cold and bleak like winter weather!

I agree.

Jacfrost · 04/01/2024 09:45

Bleak and corporate - the kind of thing you might see in a waiting room rather than a home

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 04/01/2024 12:26

First one, definitely.
We have this one in our kitchen, I still love it

Which one of these would you choose? (Decor)
Spomsored · 04/01/2024 17:32

Some lovely murals posted here but I realised, when I was looking for one, that lots of them become quite expensive when you work out the price for an actual wall-sized area.

Josette77 · 04/01/2024 19:42

Personally not a fan of murals, but more importantly if you are looking to sell in a couple of years I would leave it as is, unless you plan to remove it before you sell.

GreatGateauxsby · 04/01/2024 19:43

I like the first one but I’ve seen it IRL.

styled nicely it looks the business… I was a bit salty as I almoooost got it then didn’t 😅

my friend was decorating at the same time and has it in her v fancy house and it looks really good!

wallpaper is cheap as chips to remove /repaint whatever…I say go for it

Shedmass8 · 04/01/2024 19:47

The first one. The second is cold and depressing.

JaninaDuszejko · 04/01/2024 20:06

I like the second one because it's more abstract. Like it being neutral.

Aroundthewaygirl · 04/01/2024 21:37

I'm in the minority - i prefer the second one. But I feel like there would be something better to select from.

EwwSprouts · 04/01/2024 21:56

I prefer the second one in blue or the one posted by @Redpaisley The others look sludgy. The Graham & Brown one reminds me of Chinese restaurant decor.

TheSeasonalNameChange · 04/01/2024 22:44

Whilst I really like murals I think you might regret it in a house you want to sell relatively soon. A lot of people will be put off by wallpaper or anything tricky to paint over. Could you put down a bright rug instead for the play area section?
