Where can I find a cowboy?

He'd have to be a fairly mature one since I am fairly mature myself (age wise that is). And I'm slightly scared of horses but I guess there will be occasions when the horse isn't present.

So where do I look?

Montana

Advertise for a tradesman, make it clear that you are naive and that you don't want to be ripped off but have no idea how much the job should cost.

You'll be ambushed by them (and may even get one or two who genuinely want to help)

Sarvanga38 · 01/01/2024 22:50

Been watching Yellowstone, perchance?

Tootytoot78 · 01/01/2024 22:52

We visited Fort Worth last year, and it was wall to wall with real cowboys!

Royalsingingseal · 01/01/2024 22:53

Toy Story I believe

DirtyKit · 01/01/2024 22:53

I don’t know but I’d like to!

Mumdiva99 · 01/01/2024 22:54

Australian outback- if you don't mind which country they come from.

FIuffy · 01/01/2024 22:56

My ex moved to Texas and became a cowboy. I can send him your way?

MiddleagedBeachbum · 01/01/2024 22:56

I’m planning a USA trip and have been wondering the same myself!!

Any cowboys in the UK? 😍

The best way to meet a cowboy is if you book yourself a getaway mid December next year to a charming little log cabin B&B, run by a sweet older couple who just happen to have a cowboy for a son.

Ofcourse he'll be visiting for Christmas and you'll have a couple of chance encounters, but then is as you drive back to the airport there will be an avalanche and you'll get blocked in and it'll knock all the electricity out. But it's okay, as the son will be driving past in his big truck and rescue you and then you'll just have to go back to the B&B while you wait for the roads to become passable again.

It turns out you and the son have loads in common and get married on Christmas Eve with the vicar/pastor who also happens to be snowed in at the cabin, and you take over the B&B from his parents and start offering 'Cow herding' experiences to guests.. or so my Christmas viewing would lead you to believe.

"Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?"... Do you remember that song in the '90s, by Paula Cole?

Anyway, I like @Singleandproud 's suggestion!

TheDandyLion · 01/01/2024 23:09

Argentina

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/01/2024 23:12

Book a holiday to a dude ranch. Being scared of horses is a brilliant move, you'll need lots of reassurance and personal attention from a craggy, kindly cowboy.

CalFran · 01/01/2024 23:12

@Singleandproud if you don't already write fiction you should begin doing so right away.

@Fraaahnces I want a real cowboy, not an animated one.

@FIuffy is your ex nice? Does he have a stetson?

Ok so far I have Montana, Fort Worth and the Australian outback on my list. When I actually get there, how do I go about finding a cowboy? What should my opening line be? Should I dress as a cowgirl?

😂 I've already met a few of those.

Argentina is now also on my list. I've always wanted to go there but there might be a language barrier if I manage to find a cowboy.

What is a dude ranch?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/01/2024 23:20

A dude ranch is a working ranch that offers holidays. Usually you'll have your own cabin (excellent for secret assignations). What they offer depends on the size and type of ranch, some of them have up to a 100 guests and it can be a bit more like a holiday camp with lots of different activities like nature walks and kayaking, others have very few guests and the activities are helping with the ranch and treking on horseback. If you Google 'dude ranch holidays' loads come up, there are dude ranches in Argentina too. https://www.riding-vacations.info/daten/duderanch-argentina-514.html

SkaneTos · 01/01/2024 23:23

I, too, would recommend a dude ranch. They exist in USA and Canada, too.

Whiskerson · 01/01/2024 23:26

Having never previously given it a moment's thought in my life, it is now my dream to visit a dude ranch! 2024, year of the horse! (Not literally as in the Chinese zodiac, which is apparently going to be the dragon 😂)

NashvilleQueen · 01/01/2024 23:26

Sorry that's a messy link. It's a cowboys single dating site!

CalFran · 01/01/2024 23:27

That's very helpful, thank you for the dude ranch information.

Have either of you been to one? I don't want to waste 2 weeks mucking out the stables (or whatever) unless I have firsthand witness accounts that there are cowboys on these ranches who are willing and able.

CalFran · 01/01/2024 23:27

Oh more dude ranch info - thank you.

CalFran · 01/01/2024 23:29

Oh wait - there's an actual dating site that specialises in cowboys?! How do you know that @NashvilleQueen <narrows eyes>
