Is anyone else’s teen at home with them tonight?

My older teen is perfectly happy being in tonight (I think) but I feel sad somehow. School just didn’t really work for them socially and they aren’t really one for clubbing but I somehow feel deeply sad that a 19 year old is home with her parents on NYE - I know I need to get over it.

Anyone else feel like this or reassure me?

I suppose I worry she isn’t really happy iyswim but she’s very private and would never really share it if she wasn’t

Welcome to 2023, teens aren’t the same as they were when we were kids! They aren’t interested in going out and drinking/ partying.

let her be.

apronbellybarbie · 31/12/2023 20:15

I think it's fantastic she wants to be home with her mum on New Year's Eve.

You can make it fun for you both, have a drink together (if you both enjoy alcohol), play some games, watch a movie, etc!

Happy New Year to you both x

bestbefore · 31/12/2023 20:15

Mine are! Seem ok with it

shellyleppard · 31/12/2023 20:15

I'd rather have them home than out drinking and possibly getting in trouble (drinks being drugged). Have my 18 and 15 year old sons with me .....

CeriB82 · 31/12/2023 20:17

My son is 15 and on his xbox.

daughter is 22 and teetotal and is in bed watching Netflix. She hated crowds.

other daughter gone back to uni to go clubbing.

Asifiwouldnt · 31/12/2023 20:17

Ok thank you all this is really helping

Ot feels like all her ex-school
peers are out pubbing and clubbing and I know I was at her age so it’s hard not to feel she’s missing out

But I guess there’s more than one way to be 18

Dd is working tonight & Ds is gigging with a band but last year both were home and we had a lovely time.

LadyBird1973 · 31/12/2023 20:19

Dd (16) is home. I wouldn't want her out - NYE can be brutal!
She is perfectly happy, playing on her PlayStation. She may FaceTime a couple of friends later.
Going out isn't all it's cracked up to be.

RoseDog · 31/12/2023 20:20

Ds is home tonight as he has a shift at work at 10.30am!

Darby3785 · 31/12/2023 20:22

My 19 year old is in with us too!

I'm quite relieved to be honest!

I don't think kids today are as interested in going out like we were!

megletthesecond · 31/12/2023 20:22

17yo DS has been at work and is now happily scoffing chocs while gaming with mates. He'll see them for football tomorrow. I think they've all figured out that cold evenings are best inside in the warm, in front of a computer with a regular supply of food from the fridge. I can't blame him really.

Gherkingreen · 31/12/2023 20:24

DS20 has gone back to his uni town to celebrate with friends; DS18 is home, we went to the cinema earlier, cooked a lovely dinner, played games & will watch a film maybe. He's good with it, he doesn't feel he's missing anything and I can't be doing with NYE so we're all happy!

Pigeonqueen · 31/12/2023 20:24

Not a teen but dd aged 20 is here with us. She’s home from university for Christmas and we love rurally and none of her local friendship group can be bothered to go anywhere / do anything- too expensive, no transport etc. We are literally just eating crap and sitting in our pjs watching Tv. All seems happy enough.

Singleandproud · 31/12/2023 20:26

I only ever went out clubbing once for NYE, waking up with a hangover was not my idea of starting the year in a good way.

Personally I've always thought things like birthdays, Christmas and NYE are family affairs. You can make it special and add your own traditions though, DD is younger but has decided to come home from her dad's to spend the night with me, we have nibbles, play a board games for prizes and maybe watch a film before watching the fireworks.

EffortlessDelegation · 31/12/2023 20:33

This is the first time one of mine has gone out without us, at a friend's house (they are 19/20). The other (18) is at the cinema with DH. But normally we are all at home together.

Daffyyellow · 31/12/2023 20:35

Yup, both home. Canapés, chips and dips whilst we play board games, been the same for a few years. Homemade sausage rolls tasted cheesy, no idea why!?

cakeorwine · 31/12/2023 20:43

DS (18) currently playing online with his mates.

DinaofCloud9 · 31/12/2023 20:45

Mine are 20 and 16 and both at home.

piano789 · 31/12/2023 20:46

DD’s 19 and 15 both at home too.

justjuggling · 31/12/2023 20:47

Both mine are. 🙂

TheChosenTwo · 31/12/2023 20:48

Our older 2 are 18 and 19, while we aren’t at home we are away on holiday with a massive group of extended family, cousins for them of a similar age, some older some younger.
They’ve only ever spent new years with us!
They would be welcome to stay home and try Something and else and maybe they will one day but they’ve expressed no interest in doing so at the moment.
One of my nephews is now 30 and a few years ago declined the family holiday in favour of staying in his local town and going out with his friends. He said it was a big disappointment as it was overcrowded and he spent most of the evening queueing for he bar and said he would never do it again!

FatFemale · 31/12/2023 20:48

Nothing wrong with that! Enjoy her being at home!

littlemisslozza · 31/12/2023 20:48

Ours are home. We've had a nice meal and now we're watching James Bond, they're all happy!
