Things that have made me irrationally angry this Christmas (lighthearted)

Nospecialcharactersplease · 29/12/2023 13:56

Someone has been stabby with the butter, so now there are deep craters in it and I can no longer do my pleasing swipe and curl. Yet to determine who this is, but may report it to the police because he/she is clearly a serial killer in the making.

TV has been record breakingly shite, despite spending up to our eyeballs on streaming platforms. And why does every documentary these days have a musical score created by an intern on acid? It’s supposed to be ambient music. AMBIENT.

The weather is also a pile of shite. I have had to choose between smiling at my guests indoors or fucking off for a walk into hurricane billy bob the second, never to return.

Everything worth eating and drinking is giving me indigestion.

I have had about 17 minutes to myself and now I have to start planning for new years guests. With limited options for activities, because we’re forecast another fecking storm.

Please share your examples so I know I am not the only one full of seasonal rage 😤 🤣

Thanks so much for posting - made me proper belly laugh after a very very long day stuck on delayed/cancelled trains 🙃🙃🙃

Oh no! I hope you are home now with your feet up. Christmas trains need a rage thread all to themselves.

BIL (age 43) insists on dishing out all the Christmas presents from under the tree, rather than letting each person find their own. A very small thing but I'm still grumpy about it today. He stole my favourite part of Christmas AngryConfusedBlush

You dive in and find your own? That would give me the rage! We've always had my mum hand them out.

She died last year and my dad did it as we went to his and this year we gave my brother the job as he hosted!

I hear you OP. The weather is making it so hard and I don't think we've had daylight for a week that doesn't help! Plus ds went back swim training Wednesday so I've been up at 6am everyday since Boxing Day but I suppose I should be grateful it's not 4am. That starts again next Tuesday 🫣

Dh has been watching endless kayaking videos on his phone... loudly.. which appear to be narrated by Kermit the frog.
And then tells me about them.
I have just sent him up for a long bath as the alternative is actual murder.

And he keeps sitting on my sofa. We have three fricking sofas... go somewhere else!

This made me choke on my Pringles 😂.... I just need to swap your kayaking for darts.....

so true!!!
also we’ve got Covid since Boxing Day, I was so looking forward to a relaxing week as last two months were so busy and full of problems. We managed one Christmas Day without problems and then Covid struck.
And the weather….it’s not so relevant for walks because of Covid but I have a gigantic pile of washing and can’t shift it.

Letstrysomethingnew · 29/12/2023 21:28

People constantly asking me what I was doing for Christmas, despite being aware that my entire family apart from me is either in hospital, just out of hospital or otherwise really unwell. We are not exactly off to the panto then round to MILs for tea.

shellyleppard · 29/12/2023 16:14

Grumpyoldcrone.....best way to cook the brisket is low and slow. Slice a couple of carrots and onions, add a glass of wine and two glasses of water. Rest brisket on top, cover tightly with foil and cook at 180°c. Sorry not sure about the other temperature. Did a 2 and a half kilo joint for five hours and it was gorgeous x things that pissed me off over Christmas.....my dad saving half a dozen garden peas as leftovers. His obsession with the washing up 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Thank you sooo much! I will try that.

I share your rage re peas. My mother still has a small bowl of peas in her fridge, left over from Christmas. No one will eat them. I will dispose of them as I prepare the brisket!

starfishmummy · 29/12/2023 21:45

I could handle someone passing presents round, but do we really need to watch each person open each present? This is my lovely in laws approach

Worse is when you've gone to someone else's house for lunch and they've saved their present opening until everyone is there. We had done ours at home and then had to watch the in laws opening presents from people we didn't know for what seemed like hours. Just why?!!

ChainBastard · 29/12/2023 21:46

I haven't had a single turkey sandwich. It's the Christmas food I look forward to most and there has not been one. Went to parents for Boxing Day as they said "we have LOADS of meat left" which indeed they did, but no bread! Crackers just aren't the same...

Apart from that though it's been lovely so I can't really complain.

Worriedaboutnonsense · 29/12/2023 21:55

I am really not that bothered about presents but was asked by a couple of people for a list so gave them a few things I would like. These were inexpensive easy things to get like chocolates, wine and slippers. Really basic stuff but stuff I like. People then proceeded to ignore the list and get me stuff I don’t like or need. It really shouldn’t matter but it drives me crazy that they ask and then ignore the list!!!!!!

I would rather people didn’t bother as I hate waste and am stuck with pretending to be grateful for things I don’t want!!

Nospecialcharactersplease · 29/12/2023 21:55

Well this has been cathartic but also humbling. I am a teaspoon litterer and a tiny leftovers saver. I hang my head in shame. But I least I’m not a butter stabber.

Pissed off that I've stressed, tried hard, put myself through hell but my adult dc don't really care or need that level of thoughtful bloody gifts. Tonight DP and I enjoyed our own Christmas dinner, cooked by him, I enjoyed my bread sauce but due to horrendous IBS being triggered by gluten I've been in the toilet around 15 times in the last hour, my backside is so so sore!!!! I don't need it but when will I learn....... The TV is chronically crap. Call the midwife was so dissapointing but Vera was on form. Stupid fecking neighbours with Las Vegas style flashing lights covering, really covering house and flashing 18 hours a day straight into my fecking migraine prone brain via bedroom window.... Just piss off.

LaughingCat · 29/12/2023 22:05

decemberwasshit · 29/12/2023 14:39

Being given dozens of bath bombs and face masks for Christmas. Neither of which I use or asked for.

@decemberwasshit - can I please swap your face masks for my candles? I want better skin and I won’t light candles with two idiot cats tearing around the place.

For me:

Tricky family dynamics plus too much alcohol leading to me wanting to sleep in the kennels with the dogs.

My cat got uveitis in her eye…then acute pancreatitis…now an eye ulcer (caused by the steroidal eye drops we were given for the uveitis). I’m pretty sure she’s planning exactly how she’s going to murder me when she’s out of her cone of shame. I’m hoping she succeeds because if the insurance find a reason not to pay, we’ll need to remortgage to afford the bill.

There’s no chocolate left in the house.

My other half told me in no uncertain terms two days ago that we were not take my aunt up on her offer of taking home some of the cheese and baked ham/smoked salmon etc that were left over. And just complained that what he really, really wants right now is a cheese and charcuterie board.

The scales smugly informed me this morning that I’ve put on 6kg in the last week. I’m assuming they’ve somehow malfunctioned.

It’s motherfuckin’ January next week.

GrumpyOldCrone · 29/12/2023 14:08

My daughter went out drinking and lost her brand new handbag, which of course had everything in it. My other daughter finished the Brie and I’d only had a tiny bit. My partner keeps talking at me about politics, and my mother bought a brisket for new year but I have to cook it and I’ve never done one before so it’s one more thing to think about. I’m technically on holiday but I need to do some work today because otherwise I will feel unprepared when I go back next week. I could go for a walk instead but I’m too pissed off to get dressed.

Thank you OP for the opportunity to share my rage!

I read this that you were too pissed to get dressed. Maybe try that 😂

stomachamaleon · 29/12/2023 22:15

@PTSDBarbiegirl I feel your pain. I have crohns and literally everything I like to eat over Christmas cripples me and makes me craptastic.
It's actually made me teary and I normally get on with it. I need beige and boring sadly :(

unlikelychump · 29/12/2023 22:22

We've just fitted a new kitchen so everything is in a different place. Today I found mouldy satsumas dripping in one drawer and some mouldy bread rolls in a cupboard.

Sharontheodopolodous · 29/12/2023 22:26

I take your 'presents under the tree' and raise you to 'my (lovely-we adore her) mil believing that having your presents all at once is somehow unhealthy'

I hate Christmas, but have always had my pile to get stuck into

We go to hers every year (since we lost darling fil) and she likes to spread them out-to the point we had one every 3/4 hours and I unwrapped the last one at bedtime (just after 10pm)

Honest to God,we where up at about half 8 and got to open the first at 11am

Dp says she's always done it that way, since he and his sister where young-she seems to think it taught them to be patient and not get too excited/they could play with what they got until the next present a few hours later

I mean what's the bloody point?

If you can't get too excited at Christmas, then when can you?

(I'm told she did the same at easter-half an egg a day for months)

It's a good job we adore her really

LancashireSquirrel · 29/12/2023 22:27

Being thanked for a cup of tea behind made approximately 50 times. Being asked "Can I sit here?" .. "Can I have a banana?"..

YES! Just help yourself and leave me aloooooonee!

I have a badly broken arm and braced and in pain. Therefore, food prep, cooking and hosting for 10 inlaws side of family over 3 days, and storage of leftovers has been left to others in the house. We now have food poisoning and Ive missed visiting my sister and family today. Little sleep and spent today washing, drying 6 sets of double bedding and towels between flopping. Husband now agrees hosting is quite hard work...I usually love it, just not this year.

My MIL did this to my DDs (9 and 3) when we saw them just before Christmas. She let them open two presents and then said they would save the rest for another day so as not to overwhelm them. 🤨 My 9yo was most put out.

Lollypop701 · 29/12/2023 23:09

@Sunshineismyfavourite spooky fecker!

HerculesMulligannn · 29/12/2023 23:19

I have been Gracious (Noble, even), Cheerful and Competent over Christmas. I have facilitated a happy and harmonious family Christmas, hanging on to the fact that on 27th DS was going to visit his GFs family for a few days, DD was off to meet her new BFs family for a few days, and DH had a full day sport activity. I encouraged with discussions around the Trainline app, I facilitated with offers of lifts to the station and most excitingly I just stared into the deep cold quiet space of 27th Dec with respect and anticipation, as my reward.

Then the sports thing got cancelled for weather reasons and DD’s bfs family got noro and were all throwing up, and I ended up with only getting rid of DS, who is by a long chalk the easiest going member of the Family.

I feel I have performed Christmas under false pretences. And everyone kept asking what was for supper. 😡🙄
