Things that have made me irrationally angry this Christmas (lighthearted)

Nospecialcharactersplease · 29/12/2023 13:56

Someone has been stabby with the butter, so now there are deep craters in it and I can no longer do my pleasing swipe and curl. Yet to determine who this is, but may report it to the police because he/she is clearly a serial killer in the making.

TV has been record breakingly shite, despite spending up to our eyeballs on streaming platforms. And why does every documentary these days have a musical score created by an intern on acid? It’s supposed to be ambient music. AMBIENT.

The weather is also a pile of shite. I have had to choose between smiling at my guests indoors or fucking off for a walk into hurricane billy bob the second, never to return.

Everything worth eating and drinking is giving me indigestion.

I have had about 17 minutes to myself and now I have to start planning for new years guests. With limited options for activities, because we’re forecast another fecking storm.

Please share your examples so I know I am not the only one full of seasonal rage 😤 🤣

DH finished work Thursday before Christmas and did the "last minute shopping" on the Friday. Both been ill to varying degrees since! Haven't seen DM & DGPs, cancelled going to DD to see DGS and have to cancel our plans with friends to be away for a big NY party 😞 Feeling pretty down right now 😞

Crucible · 29/12/2023 18:17

@WonderingWanda why is it down to you to help the relatives achieve these goals? Can you tell them to F off?

GenXisthebest · 29/12/2023 18:29

I drank too much wine last night and felt unwell all day today.

caringcarer · 29/12/2023 18:37

I've put on weight.
DH felt unwell so I had to go out in the rain and wind to walk his dogs for 2 days.
Just spend 2 days visiting MiL. Took her for an expensive meal yesterday evening and heard her complaining to her granddaughter on the phone she didn't want to go but felt she had to. And the dessert she chose was sold out so that was somehow my fault.
Went to DS for Xmas dinner. It was lovely. I invited DS to my home on Boxing day but he said he was invited to his Dad's. I only sorted a few leftovers then. Then at 5 pm DS arrived and said he'd been at his Dad's since 11am but not been fed. I was really annoyed as I'd have made a buffet had I have known.

Woahyeahyeahyeah · 29/12/2023 18:55

Can I start by saying I LOVE the term Seasonal Rage 👏

Mine is DH not emerging from the bed until gone 9am, EVERY SINGLE DAY since he finished Working last Friday.
DCs x3 up at 6 at the latest, throw x2 DDogs into the mix, by the time his well rested self comes gleefully down the stairs I am one stressed Lady. We've had the chat, 100 times over, his argument is I fall asleep earlier so technically we get the same amount of sleep!?

This is why I ask for books for Christmas. Stave off boredom, legitimately ignore people and look grateful for your present.

Haha I've read half a book since yesterday!

It’s a cruel world out there and you did not deserve this. Chin up.

Thanks OP! If only my family were as sympathetic as you

Riapia · 29/12/2023 19:03

It’s been no better than every other Christmas.
Fucking anti climax.

MissyT987 · 29/12/2023 19:05

Cooked Christmas dinner and my guests didn’t turn up . Spent the day alone , had I of known in advance, I was going to be messed about . I’d of arranged to of been with others .

Pebbles16 · 29/12/2023 19:21

That some previous owners of this house took the kitchen door off so:
a: the whole house smells of whatever I am cooking
b: I cannot close the door and put a big FUCK OFF, NO I DON'T NEED A HAND sign up
And the washing up, dishwashering, laundry doing etc

Wtf?? What's the back story? You must be raging

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 29/12/2023 19:36

I'll contribute although RATIONALLY angry IMO. Literally the SECOND I woke up on Christmas day I felt off and came down with bad cold/flu. First time I have managed leave the house today and had so much planned. Spent Wednesday (on which I had to decline 3 lovely Christmas invitations which would have normally been lovely) trying to unblock the toilet which my mum made 10 times worse by not listening that the water WAS going down very slowly (I had markers on the toilet 😂) and we could unblock it better when the water had gone down a bit. She proceeded to try and clear the blockage with a stick which made the water go the darkest fecking brown. Of course this was disgusting so we had to flush again to try and "dilute|" the water but in doing so making the water come up to the top again. By now it was getting fecking late and I knew she would probably need to go for a number 2 in the morning so I took matters in to my own hands and had to scoop the "water" out using a little pot to get the water down low enough to unblock. All this of course while I'm flued up to the nines with the window wide open to get rid of any smell with the freezing cold wind blowing in. 😡😡😡

Bearing in mind the thread title said "irrational".... my sis much as I love her at 40 still refuses to learn 'adult' stuff like cooking, driving, grocery shopping or DIY and it drives me mad. This year unusually she got landed with cooking for a parent and I did secretly think about bloody time, as I do all the hosting and stressing and i hate it. I heard today that she bought an entire pre cooked traditional dinner from a local place and reheated it, and apparently it was a huge success. I am irrationally raging.

I mean...he's not wrong. WTF is everyone up at 6am, is there something wrong with you? 😋

Have you heard why that didn't t turn up? That's so unbelievably rude.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/12/2023 19:46

This thread has cheered me up.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 29/12/2023 19:53

@ssd SO shite. Completely un festive

My complaints:

In laws all want to watch quiz show on Xmas eve, tell me off when I quietly browse on phone on sofa. I do not like quiz show.

Why did we have to arrive at 1pm if food isn't being served until 430?! (Bring a dish so no cooking required by hosts and no other activity eg no presents etc)

If your dog isn't well behaved enough not to try to steal food and napkins from the table, it shouldn't be invited into this room.

Overall lovely Xmas with people I love, but just some minor whines 😉

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/12/2023 19:58

I really don’t think mine is irrational.

We go to my parents’ house and family friends come over too. In total, we have (I’ve included ages as it’s relevant):

Me - 29 and 26w pregnant
DH - 32
DD1 - 9
DD2 - 3
DM - 59
DF - 61
DSis - 32
Family friend - 58
Family friend - 56
Family friends’ DD - 17
Family friends’ DS - 24
Family friends’ DS’s GF - 24

So as you can see, 8 adults and 1 very nearly adult. Family friends were there from Christmas Eve to the 28th and every meal time, Family friends’ kids and the GF disappeared to sit down whilst the rest of us cleared up. Didn’t even so much as carry a plate through! DM prepped and cooked every meal (with help from me, DSis, DF) so it’s not like they helped in other ways. When DH or I asked them to help, 17yo outright said no and the 24yos just ignored us. Completely ruins the festive time for me.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/12/2023 20:00

Comandeering of TV! DM sat down on best seat to view TV, put a programme on she wanted to watch and proceeds to read a book! We did actually point put this was a bit unreasonable after the 3rd time she did it.

@Tara336 please tell me she stopped doing this after you pointed it out.

There was far too many nuts in my Christmas pudding from Aldi. I don't like them but can tolerate once every couple of mouthfuls, but it was full of them!! Was very cross!!

Hibye23289 · 29/12/2023 20:20

This thread has made me laugh!
