Does my section incision look like it's healing okay? (Pic)

I'm 4 weeks post section and not sure if my scar is healing okay, it still seems quite red and has a scab at the side still? I was looking online at pictures of healing scars and most at the 4-5 week mark seemed to have lost colour, so now I'm worried.

Hard to tell, is it sore or weepy at all? I'm 5 weeks post section and on antibiotics as I got a mild infection in mine but I'd say mine was an angrier red than yours and was starting to weep a bit (sorry gross I know). It also felt really sore.

ColourMeBlue · 29/12/2023 01:12

Mine was red and sore for weeks.i had a scab at one side, like yours. The doctor said it wasn't infected but he give me some steroid cream that really made a difference.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 29/12/2023 01:13

I think it looks fine. No gaping, which I had after the second c-section in one small area, had to be taped together. Similar color to mine, I also had some scabbing/dryness and hair growing into/out of it. I have v sensitive pale dry skin.
Is it sore to touch? Are you feeling OK in yourself?

Infections feel noticeably warm, so if you feel gently all along it you'll definitely know. Plus it'll be sticky/damp.

It looks fine, but if you check that you'll know for absolute sure.

tortoiseshellcats · 29/12/2023 01:18

It looks fine to me - all of my surgical scars kept that colour for months. If there aren't any other signs of infection - heat, swelling, discharge, increased pain then it seems to be healing fine

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 29/12/2023 01:20

An infected wound is red, swollen, weeping, hot. Your wound looks normal to me, (nurse).

uclpp · 29/12/2023 01:34

There is no hint of redness so I’d say ok

fungibletoken · 29/12/2023 01:48

No medical qualifications here but that looks a lot less angry than mine and I'm almost 6 months in!

sectionscar · 29/12/2023 22:14

@Darcy86 not weepy or sore, if anything I'm more sore in my muscles above it, a bit numb still directly above the scar but the scar itself doesn't feel like anything.

@ColourMeBlue oh that's interesting, was the steroid cream to help the healing? Or just to try prevent any infections?

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99 I feel okay and it doesn't feel sore to touch or have any weeping or gaping etc, just the scab at the end

sectionscar · 29/12/2023 22:17

@VikingLady okay, thank you. It doesn't feel warm thankfully so hope that means it's okay

@tortoiseshellcats that's good to know, thanks. I've never had any kind of large incision or surgery of any kind so it just looks so bad to me but probably because I'm not used to anything like it

@Manyandyoucanwalkover okay, thank goodness I don't think I have any of that!

@uclpp thank you!

@fungibletoken oh really? I've never seen any scars apart from those on google so I feel like it looked awful but hoping it's just because I'm not used to seeing it yet

@sectionscar Hopefully nothing to worry about! Hope you + baby are doing well.
Re. numbness: I had c-sections 15 years + 13 years ago, and have had numbness until last year! My friend same.

sectionscar · 29/12/2023 22:21

@VanellopeVonSchweetz99 oh wow really? It's such a weird feeling, it's strange to see my hand on my stomach but not feel like I'm touching parts of it, so bizarre. I wonder if it'll last as long as yours!

OP posts:
CharlottePimpernel · 29/12/2023 22:23

Looks like mine did, mine was fine! It's five years ago now and only just stopped feeling numb. It hurt for a long time in a dull kind of way, on and off, especially after exercise.

Blessedbethefruitz · 29/12/2023 22:31

My cesarean was almost 5 years ago and still numb. I had a little scab at one side that healed slower, I was told it was the side they started the cut from? But it's healed beautifully, you'd have to be looking for it to see it now. I've had a vbac since too. No surprise yours is still a bit dark, it's major surgery! Enjoy the little one :)

Garman · 29/12/2023 22:33

C-section scar massage can help with the numbness and general recovery.

TheBeeb · 29/12/2023 22:35

I think it looks fine too, mine looked similar and had a scab at the side for what felt like ages!

idontlikealdi · 30/12/2023 01:25

Looks fine (am not a medic!), I still have a numb patch 13 years later

sectionscar · 02/01/2024 00:31

Me again, the right side of my scar and just beside it has been quite itchy today with some shooting pains and I looked and the scab has turned black Confused is this a good or bad sign?

itchy means healing
black scab = old dry blood

nit sure re the shooting pains - presumably those aren’t from the skin?

Cuckoochanel80 · 02/01/2024 00:57

I think it looks fine. I feel mine is only really starting to be healed properly and my daughter is nearly 17 months.

oneflewoverthe · 02/01/2024 01:07

It looks fine. You're only a few weeks in.

Jellycats4life · 02/01/2024 01:14

It looks fine.

Mine looked horrible initially. There seemed to be a thick area where the skin seemed to have been folded over more than once before suturing. Even the community midwife mentioned that it might always appear thick and raised once it was healed.

Anyway, it healed amazingly. Have to get a magnifying glass out to see the tiny, thin scar. I never would have believed it would heal so well.

Give it time. Four weeks is early days still. I remember really intense itching as it healed. It was really unpleasant, but it got better.

Cuckoochanel80 · 02/01/2024 01:38

Yes, I actually think it looks like a really good scar, very neat and will heal nicely in time.

sectionscar · 02/01/2024 02:18

Thank you all, especially for the scar compliments lol Grin I hope it heals neatly!

I've had another look before bed there and it's like black in the middle and a part is yellow and another looks almost green Confused never seen a scab like it. Tried to take a picture but it's not very good as the focus is horrendous.

oneflewoverthe · 02/01/2024 02:19

It looks like a scab.
