Why doesn't lamb gravy exist?

I can understand pork, there's not much to get out of it. But lamb is juicy and delicious. So, why can't you buy it?

Clearly, I have never tried to make gravy from it. I did try with chicken bones once, that didn't turn out well. I was only trying to make stock and it was revolting.

Okay, so now I feel stupid. I never, ever see it anywhere. I went out of my way to look in m&s before Xmas and no cigar.

Am I blind, or is it just not common on supermarket shelves?

You can get pork gravy as well.

Incongruance · 28/12/2023 02:17

Lamb gravy is easy to make from the juices left from the roast. I have never bought ready made gravy, didn't realise it was a thing. I use what is left in the roasting tin, the vegetable water, a lamb stockpot (knorr), worcester sauce, red wine, cornflour.

Oxo does, or at least used to do, lamb Oxo cubes - I used to take them overseas to my cousin as she couldn't get lamb stock locally and really missed it.

Now I just think you are all making this up :D

Maybe I just live in a rubbish part of the country where they limit what they sell you.

That's nice - for able-bodied people.

Sadly, I don't fall into that category anymore.

I am so sorry OP. I didn't know that.

KievLoverTwo · 28/12/2023 02:22

I have bought a bisto pigs in blankets gravy. It was odd and a bit gross. Definitely never seen pork before.

That's okay. When I first got my own place I spent hours on my feet cooking up a storm. I absolutely adored it. For a good two decades.

But life sometimes just takes it away from you.

C'est la vie!

Rural.

But I also don't remember ever seeing it in the SE. Nor the midlands with very large supermarkets.

Yes it is common. Even I have a jar and I don't even like gravy!

Newestname002 · 28/12/2023 04:10

Amazon also seem to have a variety of lamb gravy/mixes. 🌹

YireosDodeAver · 28/12/2023 04:21

You don't need to buy it it's so easy to make. Once you have roasted the lamb and it is resting waiting for carving, add a couple of spoons of wheat or corn flour to the roasting pan to soak up all the fat and make a thick roux paste, add seasoning to taste and then gradually add boiling water until you reach the consistency of gravy.

Asda do pork gravy but I think you might need to relocate to a more gravy loving area to get it if you don’t have that or lamb gravy where you are 😂

Where I'm from you make gravy, don't buy it. Use the drippings, make a slurry (if you add flour or starch to hot liquid it will clump! Whisk a slurry with cold water or milk for a cream gravy then add to the hot) add some butter and stock if needed. You can make it with anything really! Honestly cream gravy with lots of black pepper is my favorite.

I have lived in the NW for 18 months, I expected many gravies! We have been trying to move to N Yorkshire for a few years. If it's no better there, I give up.

Read the thread folks! OP knows how to make proper gravy, just is after something easier as she’s not as able as she once was.

Does anyone on MN ever read a thread before posting? Third time saying this, it's getting tedious now.
