Why doesn't lamb gravy exist?

I can understand pork, there's not much to get out of it. But lamb is juicy and delicious. So, why can't you buy it?

Clearly, I have never tried to make gravy from it. I did try with chicken bones once, that didn't turn out well. I was only trying to make stock and it was revolting.

You didn't realise it was a thing ?
Never heard of Bisto then🙄

I have heard of gravy granules of course. I think OP was talking about ready made gravy as in something you just open and heat. I have never seen lamb flavoured Bisto anyway.

I'm not going to report you. If you post in a forum you need to expect all kinds of replies. Because that's how it works. Be clear with important info, don't drip feed or expect anyone to know your imaginary rules for how to reply that exist only in your head. No one is going to read all the previous replies, again, that's not how it works.

No, how it's expected to work on MN is for people to have the decency to at least read all the OPs posts before bothering to wade in, even if they CBA to RTFT. There's a handy filter to make it easy. What is an 'imaginary rule' is any prohibition on 'drip feeding' if the OP adds clarification as to why a suggestion doesn't work.

If the OP adds pertinent information but is still getting unhelpful answers from people who CBA to read all OP posts, then if she (or someone else) reports the thread then MNHQ may add a line to the bottom of the OP requesting that people read all her posts. Not one ticking her off for the imaginary crime of 'drip feeding'.

Thanks for the considerate response :)

My experience of mum making it on the hob with the lamb joint in a pan is about 20 minutes of slow cooking, standing up. Versus a few minutes of stirring with granules.

It's a big difference for me.

Unless I am missing something?

I (nearly) always make gravy from scratch, in the roasting tin, and it’s never taken anything like 20 minutes! More like 5.

It doesn't take me long but there is quite a bit of manipulation involved. There's usually far too much fat in the roasting pan so need to get rid of a lot ideally with a separating jug - it's not just a matter of chucking a spoonful of flour in and stirring a bit.

It is such a shame when people are so incredibly rude and snappy when people are offering recipes, as previously said it really ruins the tone! It is lovely to see other recipes, many times people have started asking about buying something as they're not a confident cook and after some encouragement they may go off and try.
People don't always have time to read EVERY SINGLE COMMENT and also I have never seen anyone just keep relinking to their own thread on here before in the 20 years I have been here.
I wonder if people speak to 'real life' people in this way.

No it's ridiculous to expect everyone to read every comment. Your post mentioned making two other things and gave no indication you couldn't. Reread it and you'll find your exasperation and rude response is uncalled for. Don't drip feed and be misleading and you won't have this issue. It's SO rude to berate others who are trying to be helpful and have a good time discussing recipes. It really ruins the fun and leaves a bad feeling.

It's also rude to jump straight on a thread asking about instant gravy with slightly patronising descriptions of how YOU make your SUPERIOR gravy from the juices - without even attempting to answer the OP's question.

I'd say it's rude to puff your chest about not bothering to read the other replies, too. Fair enough if it's a long thread, but this is the equivalent of overhearing a group of women mention 'gravy' and barging right in with your special recipe, overriding the conversation and having no idea of context.

People don't always have time to read EVERY SINGLE COMMENT

That's why there's a handy option to filter only the OP's posts. Then you'd have needed to read a mere 4. Or you could save yourself even more time - if you're so very busy - and not comment at all on threads you've not read.

Utini · 28/12/2023 11:50

For a super quick solution, rather than buying the separate varieties of Bisto I have Bisto best onion gravy, and add the juices from the lamb / chicken / beef for extra flavour.

SecondUsername4me · 28/12/2023 11:53

I have never bought ready made gravy, didn't realise it was a thing

How?

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 28/12/2023 12:18

People don't always have time to read EVERY SINGLE COMMENT

If you've not got time to filter and read the OPs posts, then you've really not got time to make a decent contribution.

Deathraystare · 28/12/2023 14:23

Now see I have seen it in Sainsbury's but I find it hard looking for onion gravy! (In West London).
