Why doesn't lamb gravy exist?

KievLoverTwo · 28/12/2023 02:09

I can understand pork, there's not much to get out of it. But lamb is juicy and delicious. So, why can't you buy it?

Clearly, I have never tried to make gravy from it. I did try with chicken bones once, that didn't turn out well. I was only trying to make stock and it was revolting.

I'm sorry I didn't see the previous reply about not being able bodied but if you can't make lamb gravy just from the cooking juices then the lamb bisto granules won't be any good to you either, making up bisto from granules is exactly the same amount of effort. (Spoon powder into receptacle, add water, stir) so so you'll need to stick to ready made sachets I guess.

They have pouches at m&s, always better than powder

Does anyone on MN ever read a thread before posting? Third time saying this, it's getting tedious now.

No it's ridiculous to expect everyone to read every comment. Your post mentioned making two other things and gave no indication you couldn't. Reread it and you'll find your exasperation and rude response is uncalled for. Don't drip feed and be misleading and you won't have this issue. It's SO rude to berate others who are trying to be helpful and have a good time discussing recipes. It really ruins the fun and leaves a bad feeling.

Read the thread folks! OP knows how to make proper gravy, just is after something easier as she’s not as able as she once was.

Thank you <3

I don't think the way MN organises threads really helps. I used to use Reddit and the most relevant responses would get to the top, e.g., 'can't, because disabled' and it stopped a lot of really irrelevant responses.

Can't say I am not peeved that people jump on 'need instant gravy' with 'only lazy people don't make their own.'

We're not in the 1950s, people. Check out the statistics of sick people versus working people (including non benefits claimants) and open your minds.

When I click the link it takes me to the OPs post about her not being able to make gravy from scratch, if it links you to the thread as a whole you should flag it with MNHQ as it may be an error with the app/browser you’re using.

Asda and tesco defiantly sell the bisto best one. If your local store don't have it, have you tried a home delivery? Obviously depends where they pick the stock from though. We only have a Sainsburys express near us, but their home delivered goods come from a new superstore- which seems to have everything!

Excuse me, how is me asking where I can BUY gravy drip feeding?

That was very specific. If you want to weigh in with home recipes then you are not able to read a post properly, and I am sorry if my responses and my reluctance to give a full disclosure about my disability is not the information you required, but it was VERY clear in the OP.

See this:

'So, why can't you buy it?'

Do you have a disability, and do you explain it on the first post you ever make in the internet?

BUY was the key word.

The rest is just judgement or poor reading skills.

I do sometimes wonder if I would get better luck doing online orders a week or two in advance. Certainly if you look three or four days ahead, they never seem to have half of what you want.

I will give that a try. Thanks for sparking the thought.

So why do the people suggesting you can add bisto granules to a pot, add water and stir not get a rude response of I SAID I WANT GRAVY NOT GRAVY GRANULES whereas the people who say you can add flour to a pot, add water and stir get treated rudely? I think you need to hand out more insults for consistency.

Thanks for the considerate response :)

My experience of mum making it on the hob with the lamb joint in a pan is about 20 minutes of slow cooking, standing up. Versus a few minutes of stirring with granules.

It's a big difference for me.

Unless I am missing something?

My god, do you really have nothing better to do with your life than argue the toss with strangers on the internet?

How much does this matter to you?

Simple solutions much appreciated.

Well I am insomniac and feeling crappy due to cancer treatment side effects so probably grumpier than usual. Fair point but what else am I going to do at 5am than briwse mumsnet hoping to distract myself with other people's first world problems?

That's fair.

The more sick I feel (on a daily scale of 50% illness to 80%), the more argumentative I get.

Long term sickness makes some people just fricking angry.

Mum died of cancer a few years ago; she was nothing but delightful to most people, I just know I would probably be permanently stroppy.

How is your treatment going?

I am sorry to hear of the cancer, truly.

So what? That's not an indication of need, it's an indication of want. You failed to communicate effectively and now you're attacking well meaning people just trying to enjoy a chat about gravy. There's guidelines for posting and you didn't follow them. No one is hurting you.

Onceuponaheartache · 28/12/2023 05:24

KievLoverTwo · 28/12/2023 02:29

Rural.

But I also don't remember ever seeing it in the SE. Nor the midlands with very large supermarkets.

Then you aren't looking properly. I grew up in the south and live in the Midlands, bisto have always done lamb gravy. I have a jar in my kitchen cupboard currently.

It comes in the square style glass jars and gas a green lid.

I don't think it's particularly well meaning for people to tell me how to cook from scratch when I use the word 'buy.' I think people on Mumsnet as a rule need to learn how to read threads properly, rather than just jumping in with their own, completely irrelevant personal experiences.

The thread had probably a dozen replies before I had to post 'can't' for the third time?

That doesn't even take a page turn. That's MY EXPERIENCE IS BEST EXPERIENCE and I consider it to be somewhat lazy, and for the most part, self centred, if you don't read the OPs replies. Obvs when a thread gets to 400 plus replies, it becomes very impractical, but this is not the case for this thread.

But, clearly you have your own views.

Feel free to report my post for breaking guidelines. I would love to see the one that says 'it's okay to attack the OP for defending herself after repeatedly posting about a disability.'

  • please do me the courtesy of 24 hours to copy people's suggestions before you do so, thank you

Gonna get my tin foil hat out now and claim I am being trolled by Bisto. I DO look. At least one trip in every three, I trawl through the gravy selection.

Either that, or a Yorkshire gypsy put a curse on me :(

Schwartz do both Lamb and Pork gravy mixes and they have an online store too.

Maybe try amazon fresh see if they have some maybe or food delivery apps like deliveroo might have supermarkets/shops that sell it - depends where you are I guess.

Failing that maybe local butchers or local farm shops might sell a premade lamb gravy.

Hope you manage to find some.

I'm not going to report you. If you post in a forum you need to expect all kinds of replies. Because that's how it works. Be clear with important info, don't drip feed or expect anyone to know your imaginary rules for how to reply that exist only in your head. No one is going to read all the previous replies, again, that's not how it works. You did not say you couldn't. Full stop. That's on you.

No fancy delivery services here, but will ask the butcher at my next visit. Unfortunately, we often get stuck behind cows for our local farm shop, which adds another half hour to the journey. But I may put a call into them, because they will do bulk deliveries.

Thanks :)
