Should I make us leave the house?!

Offkilter · 27/12/2023 13:46

We’ve been indoors several days although at a different house Christmas day. No one is bored but I feel like I’m meant to make us go out occasionally!
Im shattered and happy catching up with rest - although I do like a walk.
Kids are enjoying new gaming console.
How many days in is acceptable in your house?!

If I want to stay in I stay in. If I want to go out I go out. I have no rule I just do what feels right. Seems to work for us, we are all alive and fully functioning.

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/12/2023 13:57

It's really windy here, I'm only going out as I have to buy a stamp, but I might not bother. I'll just blame the post office if the birthday card is late

NotFastButFurious · 27/12/2023 14:00

I need fresh air and a walk daily!

Santaisscouringindeedfornewjob · 27/12/2023 14:02

Ds9 had a bike ride at teatime last night. Currently sat watching Tabby McTat. Absolutely awful weather outside.. Skipping bike ride today!

hiredandsqueak · 27/12/2023 14:05

I walk the dog every day. The weather isn't great today and the dog is avoiding my eye hoping I won't take her in the wind and rain so we are staying home today. I didn't go out Christmas Day or Boxing Day either as exh walked her with his dog in return for his invite to join us here. I quite like being at home tbh.

Aparecium · 27/12/2023 14:06

Don't try to fix what isn't broken.

Unless you know that X person, like a puppy, needs a run outside or they'll be a nightmare later on.

ghostbusters · 27/12/2023 14:07

I'm slightly getting cabin fever today. Haven't been outside since I got home from work on Sunday except driving to the shop for milk this morning. My kids are happy with their new toys or on the PC. The youngest is especially lazy reluctant to leave the house. But there's a storm outside and either trees down or roads flooded locally. So we're staying in today. I think I'll get them outside tomorrow, might need to bribe the wee one but he always has fun once he's outside. If no one wants to come I often end up going out for a walk myself.

jollygreenpea · 27/12/2023 14:07

It's not compulsory to go out, you say that you're shattered everyone else is happy doing something, leave it be.
When they get bored or feel the need to go out it will be far easier to get them out.
Why have a fight, just relax.

Offkilter · 27/12/2023 14:10

I have the idea it’s decadent to spend one entire day indoors never mind several. It’s cold grey and windy out and warm and cosy in.

If you can't be decadent at Christmas when can you be? Enjoy today if everyone is content and go out for a bit tomorrow if the weather is better

Randomsabreur · 27/12/2023 14:17

We were out yesterday in the sunshine. Today it is wet, windy, bit sleety with a LOT of water on the roads so we are staying in.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 27/12/2023 14:25

I can't do more than one day without a walk or I feel restless and stale.

If you fancy a walk go. If you're not itching to, just enjoy doing fa.

Offkilter · 27/12/2023 14:31

I think I’m confused that no one is bickering yet! Will make the most of everyone being content.

So be decadent. 😄

nocoolnamesleft · 27/12/2023 14:35

It's pissing it down and a howling gale. I'm definitely staying in.

WonderingAboutBabies · 27/12/2023 14:40

If you don't want to go outdoors, don't. But perhaps go to a local leisure centre for a class, swim, or gym? Something to get your body moving - you'll feel better after!

Luckylottowinnertobe · 27/12/2023 14:49

I am the complete opposite l have to walk everyday, l love it, even when weather is stormy like today, the energy is amazing. My 18 yr old son joined me, we got wet it was really windy but we had a good laugh on the way round.

Me too.

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 27/12/2023 14:51

I force everyone outside daily. Even if it’s just over to the park for a quick go on the swings or to the shop for some milk.

I don’t believe you sleep well or are at your best if you fester at home for 24 hours +.

I’d skip a day if we had a really busy one eg hosting family for the day.

mycatsanutter · 27/12/2023 14:55

@Luckylottowinnertobe I'm exactly the same , it's horrible weather here but I will definitely be taking the dog for a walk later , I just can't stay in all day .

ORANGEORANGEORANGE · 27/12/2023 15:17

I enforce outdoor time or my DD won't sleep. If I could stay in and she was still happy and slept well if definitely do that!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 27/12/2023 16:31

If it ain't broke don't fix it! We're not an outdoors type of household. Can easily stay inside for days on end. Lockdown was no problem for us.

We happily read, do jigsaws, watch a film, bake... chat... all in the comfort of our own home.

If everyone is content, leave them be. Why force people to do something they don't want to do?

PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 27/12/2023 16:34

I forced myself to the gym and feel so much better for it. I could have easily stayed in bed all day but really glad I got up. I was shattered this morning from all the boozing and socialising over xmas and now feel energised and happy!

Fester is an odd word for time spent at home with family doing pleasurable things. I think an obsession with going outside is a bit weird, though obviously having some exercise and fresh air from time to time is good for us. Forcing people to d9 it every day is a definitely strange though.

MeinKraft · 27/12/2023 17:01

We've been indoors all Christmas too. It's blowing a hoolie outside and lashing it down, why would I go out there when it's warm in here and there's cake? Winter is for being outside, enjoy it.
