What's on your bucket list of things to see and do in the UK? Not just attractions but events? Some of mine are:

Last night of the proms
Wimbledon
Stonehenge and Avebury
Houses of parliament visit
Edinburgh festival
Up Helly Aa
St Kilda visit

I've not done all of these!! Anyone else care to contribute?

@Mairzydotes you could easily do the Concorde museum at Filton in half a day (if that) as part of a longer trip to Bristol. It's not a very big museum. (I grew up locally).

@ChicoryDip

I've used the Cornwall to London sleeper a lot. Love it! My local station picks me up at 12 though as I am enroute.

If I lived in London I'd use it for weekends in Penzance as much as I could as you get the bonuses then (full trip experience and use of lounge at Paddington)

Route 66 Scotland??? Ffs calling it the NC500 was bad enough without drawing even more American tourists to it!!

We went to Wales 2 years ago and visited the castles. I think Edward I would turn in his grave seeing the Welch dragon flag at his castles.

I hope he turns in his grave everyday. Educate yourself on how those castles came to be and the oppression of the Welsh.

Also want to visit Holy Island

I visited Holy Island this summer and was really disappointed. Very commercialised and tacky. Had been on my bucket list for ages.

Lansonmaid · 27/12/2023 08:22

Would love to go to Skye, Shetland and Orkney. Might not do them all this year though
Would like to sail on Coniston water and land on Wild Cat island
Walk up Helvellyn via Striding Edge

ProfYaffle · 27/12/2023 08:33

I'm fascinated by The Broomway and Foulness Island though not sure I'd actually walk the Broomway!

Also Old Glory Molly dancing the Cutty Wren on Boxing Day.

Reading this thread has made me proud of the many UK things I've done.

This year I ticked off staying in a very very expensive hotel in Mayfair, Centre Court on my birthday and watching a Premier League game live. First time at Wimbledon- I somehow managed to get ballot tickets on my birthday for the prime view in Centre Court. Amazing! I'm never going back, as nothing will top that experience.

The next thing on my list is to visit Northern Ireland. And the Pembrokeshire beaches.

My heart wants to go to a big festival, but I know I'll hate it when I'm there, as I'm a very very grumpy camper.

Haven't yet seen the Glasgow murals on this thread. They are absolutely stunning, as is the city. Angel of the North is vast to stand at the foot of.

I'll be honest, there's not much more that's been listed on this thread that I want to do, or that I've not already done.

Globules · 27/12/2023 08:44

Also I haven't seen the Birmingham library, nor the British library mentioned. Both are absolutely outstanding. The Birmingham library building itself is a triumph and the Shakespeare room at the top is heaven.

Talking of Shakespeare, watching a Shakespeare play at the RSC was a real highlight 20 years ago. It felt a very British thing to do.

Thanks for this thread - I’m going to start my own list.

Here’s my addition, it’s only small but the carvings are stunning (and a tad controversial!)

Kilpeck Church | The Church of St Mary and St David, Herefordshire

Durdle door and Lulworth cove.

I went in the summer.

MissMarplesNiece · 27/12/2023 10:21

Anyone who's got Avebury on their list - call at West Kennet while you're there, both the Long Barrow and West Kennet Avenue.

Seriously don't bother. It was so boring. However the SS Nomadic was amazing. www.titanicbelfast.com/explore/ss-nomadic/

Don’t really understand this we spent 3 hours in the titanic museum and thought it was so well done! The nomadic didn’t take very long to walk around at all…… it was great to go and see it as it was part of the museum ticket but no way better than the main attraction for me!

Musiclover234 · 27/12/2023 10:35

I’ve done quite a few of the places/attractions on here but sometimes it’s things I didn’t know about you til I book to go to a place and explore things to do in that area.

We have spent a little more time recently since covid exploring more of the U.K. it’s been great. Reading this thread makes me realise of even more to explore!

Lake District is one of my faves we go every year 2/3 times as not too far away.

FindingMeno · 27/12/2023 10:37

Glastonbury tor

Edited

There wasn't really anything from the actual Titanic. Much of the museum involved reading massive long texts displayed on the walls. I could have got the same information from a book! Nomadic tickets can be bought separately, I believe. Or they could be when I visited.

Oh, also..

London to Inverness on a sleeper train.

Did this and it's fab even though you'll be lucky to get any sleep!

Derb · 27/12/2023 11:41

I love living in the uk, so much to explore and still to do. A few I've been lucky to do already...

Stay at The Ritz at Christmas time

Royal box at Wembley for big games

I'd like to add; the Scottish famous drive (like route 66), Ireland to visit old family home of PIL, St Michaels mount.
