Started another thread on here a couple of days ago but unfortunately the situation has moved on ☹️. I’m now on day 5 of symptoms (day 3 of severe symptoms) which seem to be getting worse. I feel like I have a serious chest infection, a lot of chest pain and struggling to breath. A hacking cough and wheezy chest that won’t clear and I’m now at the point where I can’t eat and therefore can’t take any medication to try and help. This doesn’t really feel like an A&E job but just discovered the local minor injuries unit is closed. I’m just worried if I leave it another 36 hours until the GP opens I’m going to get worse. Any advice?

Call 111

Nail123 · 26/12/2023 01:09

111 should direct you to an out of hours service. Hope you feel better soon x

Call 111

Have done the online triage and it says dial 999 due to chest pain 🙄. I don’t think I’m having a heart attack!

Call 111; say you think you have a chest infection and need ABx? In our area they will book you an out of hours emergency GP appt based at the hospital.

Thank you that’s helpful advice. Should I phone now or in the morning do you think?

In that situation, I would dose myself with paracetamol and drink plenty of fluids,. Warm lemon barley water is brilliant for sore throats & wheezy coughs.

Go to bed, rest, sleep as much as possible. Help your body to fight the virus. Use olbas oil or Vicks on your pillow case so the fumes help with breathing. Track your temperatute every time you wake up/ every four hours. Write it down.

Give it another two days. If no better, call the GP/111

I'd try calling instead as they may let you speak with a clinician rather than just shipping you off to A&E. That said, if you're struggling for breath to the point that you can't eat then it may well be an A&E job anyway. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Enterthewolves · 26/12/2023 01:23

It sounds like it could be pneumonia- call 111 and they can put you in touch with an OOH GP

Aqua20 · 26/12/2023 01:23

I work at a gp surgery, if you are struggling to breath you need to go to A&e

DramaAlpaca · 26/12/2023 01:27

I think in your situation I'd be calling 111 tonight. I don't like the sound of leaving it for 36 hours, or even until tomorrow morning. If you were one of my family, that's what I'd encourage you to do.

Hope you feel better soon.

I’d ring now. They will have appointments through the night. It’ll be quieter and if you need the ABx best to get started asap.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 26/12/2023 02:00

Thanks they have advised to go to A&E but will need to wait until the morning as can’t get there, which seems to have thrown them off.

LSTMS30555 · 26/12/2023 02:03

Why the hell are people suggesting paracetamol and 111?
You need to go to A&E immediately with chest pains & when you're struggling to breathe.

LSTMS30555 · 26/12/2023 02:05

Op for heavens sake ring an ambulance

Ohdearohdearohdea · 26/12/2023 02:07

@LSTMS30555 she doesnt need an ambulance. She needs to get to A&E

3luckystars · 26/12/2023 02:09

I would go get an X-ray if things are that bad. Don’t wait around.

Mind yourself x

YaWeeFurryBastard · 26/12/2023 02:10

I don’t need an ambulance honestly and I’d never forgive myself if one was sent as I’m sure someone else needs it more. I have family who can take me in the morning and I’m sure I’ll survive another 6 hours. Thank you though.

That's what my mum said a few years ago. Two hours later I was screaming down the duel carriageway at 90mph with her gasping for breath and O2 sats in the mid 80s. She spent several weeks in icu.

Phone your family and go to A&E.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/12/2023 02:17

Taxi?

LSTMS30555 · 26/12/2023 02:30

@Ohdearohdearohdea well obviously Op does because 111 have advised A&E and Op has no other way of getting there; therefore an ambulance because believe it or not that's actually what they're for.
Why the hell are the UK tax payers paying for a service everyone insist on not using?

LaBorde · 26/12/2023 02:37

There is a difference between 111 advising A&E and needing an ambulance.

LunaTheCat · 26/12/2023 02:43

GP here… for f—k’s sake do what you are told and go to A and E straight away or call ambulance!
