Is this hospital worthy?

Started another thread on here a couple of days ago but unfortunately the situation has moved on ☹️. I’m now on day 5 of symptoms (day 3 of severe symptoms) which seem to be getting worse. I feel like I have a serious chest infection, a lot of chest pain and struggling to breath. A hacking cough and wheezy chest that won’t clear and I’m now at the point where I can’t eat and therefore can’t take any medication to try and help. This doesn’t really feel like an A&E job but just discovered the local minor injuries unit is closed. I’m just worried if I leave it another 36 hours until the GP opens I’m going to get worse. Any advice?

@Ohdearohdearohdea well obviously Op does because 111 have advised A&E and Op has no other way of getting there; therefore an ambulance because believe it or not that's actually what they're for.
Why the hell are the UK tax payers paying for a service everyone insist on not using?

There is absolutely no need to phone an ambulance, if the OP can't get a lift she can ring a taxi. An ambulance is for life threatening situations/real emergencies.

Having said that i agree that people have become ridiculous about not using/wasting nhs resources. This is our countries healthcare system. If we are unwell we should use it.

We live very rurally so definitely wouldn’t be able to get a taxi in the middle of the night on Xmas day ☹️. Heading to hospital shortly. Really hope they can do something as I now can’t speak as too breathless. Is it usual to go in pjs or should I get dressed? Seriously don’t think I have the energy.

Go in your PJs, nobody will judge you.

Good luck!

Fine to go in pjs and something warm on top
Seriously don't worry about that. Get well soon

fatandhappy47 · 26/12/2023 06:53

Pack a bag in case OP.

And wear the PJ's

Tistheseasontobejollytrala · 26/12/2023 06:57

Sounds like pneumonia, you need a chest x ray. Good luck, fingers crossed you don’t need to wait too long once there.

Oppositioblue · 26/12/2023 07:13

Hope you’re on your way OP. Good luck. Hope you’re alright.

Wolfiefan · 26/12/2023 07:16

Hope you’re there soon OP.

ParsnipAndPoppy · 26/12/2023 07:20

Good luck, agree to pack bag, hope you’re seen soon

robinsnest1967 · 26/12/2023 07:28

This was me this time last year and it was pneumonia. Hope you get it sorted

YaWeeFurryBastard · 26/12/2023 07:33

Thanks all, does anyone know what will happen when I get there?

OP posts:
ParsnipAndPoppy · 26/12/2023 07:44

They’ll likely triage you first meaning they’ll check how serious your symptoms are, then they’ll make sure you have anything needed to manage them eg O2, before you wait to see doctor. It’s the waiting for doctor that is the longest, could be several hours. If more serious then you’ll be seen quicker.

Do you have an O2 monitor at home? If it’s below 95% you need to be seen.

mumtoboys12 · 26/12/2023 07:44

@YaWeeFurryBastard they will do all your obs like oxygen level, heart rate blood pressure etc and find out what's going on in the short term- you'll be fine don't worry about things. I hope you start to feel better soon x

rainbowstardrops · 26/12/2023 08:38

Hope you feel better soon and the hospital can help Flowers

3luckystars · 26/12/2023 09:30

Hopefully they will X-ray you and figure out what is wrong with your chest, if it is pneumonia then you will have to get antibiotics and you will get nebuliser also.

When you first get there will take your details, ask you a few questions, take your temperature and put a little monitor in your finger to see what’s going on.

I can’t tell you how long it will all take but I wish you all the best.

You are being unreasonable! The op is so breathless she can't speak. That is absolutely, totally a case for an ambulance! Saying otherwise is dangerous advice.

It's not like she has a broken nail ffs!

YaWeeFurryBastard · 26/12/2023 12:28

I’ve been seen my GP out of hours who’ve said it’s a nasty chest infection and provided antibiotics and I’m back home now. Thanks everyone for the moral support, just time to rest up and hopefully get better soon 💐

It's worth spending the money to get a home pulse ox machine. Think they're about £20 from Amazon and it sounds like it would be helpful for you atm - anything under 95% and you need to be seen again!

Mumaway · 26/12/2023 14:38

Don't underestimate the benefits of steam. Flat bottomed bowl of hot water, teatowel over your head. It will help 'loosen the secretions' 🤢, but make you feel better!!
