Uncomfortable festive sleeping arrangements

I thought I would make a support thread for those of us suffering from uncomfortable sleeping arrangements during the festive period. I’ll begin.

Staying at my sisters for two nights and as the youngest (34…) I’ve been designated the inflatable air mattress. I finally got to sleep about midnight. I was awoken around 2am to discover the bed had deflated by around 50%. Luckily it’s a plug in model (fancy!) so I reinflated myself. Unfortunately the same happened again at 4am and 6am.

I’m also 10 weeks pregnant so can’t even drink copious amounts of coffee to keep myself awake today.

The cherry on the cake is DP is having Christmas with his family and is currently fast asleep in a plump king sized bed. Oh how I wish I’d accepted the invitation!

At SILs and on the most uncomfortable and tiny fold out double bed. Not enough space for two. I'm on meds which give me stuff joints so currently contemplating how
I can get up from near floor level. We're here another night but the nearby Premier Inn beds seem very appealing!

I'm sleeping in a bathroom on a futon mattress, and it's my own house!

I'm on an uncomfortable bed in a room so hot and stuffy that I feel I can't breathe...

Despite my entire childhood having to endure freezing temperatures in my DPs house as putting the heating on was "too expensive" they now seem to think living in a sauna 24/7 is fine. Everyone expect them is sweating buckets and suspiciously jumping at the chance to walk the dog with me despite them all normally saying no.

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 25/12/2023 07:33

I'm on a broken sofa bed - it's one of those click-clack ones but it no longer click-clacks so I am essentially sleeping on a very hard sofa which slopes. My back is killing me this morning. Added to that I am sharing with a cat's litter trays, the puss woke me up doing a very smelly poo and scratching around at 5am! Trying to see it that at least I am warm and dry!

Ghostlight · 25/12/2023 07:37

I shared a pull out sofa bed with my partner, in the same room as my two siblings, one on the other sofa, the other on a futon armchair, and two toddlers (who are the children of other relatives also sleeping somewhere in the house) who shared a travelcot in the corner.
It was very hot and two people snore (not in time with each other).

There are no other places to stay locally though and I love waking up here.

Mattress on the floor in the utility room. Actually it’s quite comfy but the fridge seemed to burst into rumbling and gurgling activity several times during the night and woke me up. Zzzzz

I’m sorry your sleeping arrangements aren’t the most comfortable but ‘and it’s my own house!’ has made me laugh so much! I wasn’t expecting that 😂

BrimfulOfMash · 25/12/2023 07:46

OMG OP, surely being pregnant should have got you any beds going?

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/12/2023 07:47

I honestly can't imagine putting up with any of those sleeping arrangements!

crumblingschools · 25/12/2023 07:49

Glad we aren’t going anywhere and don’t have guests!

I'm in a travel lodge sharing a bed with my 5 year old who is extremely fidgety and wakes up several times..

Currently woke up at 6am.. tv went on and I'm trying to snooze...

Had about 3 hours broken sleep 😴

Ah I look forward to clinging to the edge of a small double bed when DP and I visit his folks at new years 😂

I was just going to say this, Rhodri Marsden has tweeted this every Christmas Eve for years, a great tradition but with pics!

CrikeyMajikey · 25/12/2023 08:16

I’ve put DSIL in the spare room in a single bed and left my teens to their double and kingsize beds. May be she wont want to come next year 😜

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 25/12/2023 08:18

Why didn't you go with DP and share that comfy bed? 🤣

RampantIvy · 25/12/2023 08:20

If we couldn't accommodate guests comfortably we wouldn't invite them.

I hope you all get a better night's sleep tonight.

Oh shhhh it's a bit of fun and a silly festive thing

Mylobsterteapot · 25/12/2023 08:23

I was in a single bed in a room with no Wi-Fi and my cat and all his stuff. Thanks to visitors not coming due to covid, we’ve been upgraded back into my double room. Hurrah!

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 25/12/2023 08:25

In my case it's elderly DPs with a hoarded house and dementia - no real concept that a knackered sofa bed, litter trays and a crap sleeping bag are not a perfectly acceptable sleeping arrangement!

Came on here to post that!
My dad's spare beds are for tiny people who hate each other (supposed to be matching twins but they don't meet and are at best 3/4 width) which is where we were last year but this year it's just us thank goodness.

Sometimes for some families the most important thing is being together.
