Just that really, don't often get to go so want to make the most of it!

Loved - Billy Elliott, Phantom of the opera
So so - wicked, we will rock you
Didn't enjoy - lion king, singing in the rain

Current thoughts are Hamilton (but if I've watched it on Disney is this a waste?!) Les Mis, Matilda, SIX, open to other suggestions too!

Hoping now I'm no longer with ex-DH I might get to go more often but probably not enough that it won't matter if it's rubbish!!

Id say les mis or hamilton. Matilda was ok and to me six just seems to short t9 be worth thr money. Heard its more like a concert than show.

craigth162 · 24/12/2023 14:44

Back to the future meant to be great.

Jules912 · 24/12/2023 14:48

I found Hamilton one of those rare exceptions where it actually helped to see it on tv first ( as I struggled to follow the story first time) and it was so much better live. Saying that I'd go for Les Mis over Hamilton if you haven't seen it before based on what you liked.

Six is brilliant but I was a bit aghast at the prices they were charging for it the last time it toured in my city, given it's a really short show, it's under 90 minutes. That's not to say don't see it, but if money is an issue you may feel a little shortchanged.

If you like musical theatre and you haven't seen Les Mis, then I think that's what you should do. It's proper canon, one of the foundational mega-musicals, still running after a squillion years and for good reason, imho.

BusySittingDown · 24/12/2023 14:49

I imagine that Hamilton will be so much better live.

I would love to see Hamilton or Matilda.

Sunbird24 · 24/12/2023 14:51

Love Les Mis, but take hankies! I’d want to see Chicago

Sonolanona · 24/12/2023 15:30

SIx, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Les Mis!

UsingChangeofName · 24/12/2023 15:44

You lost me at not liking the Lion King Shock

However, I'm going to upset 9/10 of MN by saying I really didn't think much of Hamilton.

Six is good. Clever writing. High Energy. Funny. Good music, but it is seriously short. I did feel short changed.

I think Les Mis is worth seeing if you've never seen it live. The music is just tremendous. So moving. I mean, it literally is a miserable show (clue in the title I guess Grin ) , and not one I've ever felt I want to go back and see over again, but it is such a classic, I think any musical theatre lover should see it once in their life.

However, this is going to depend on what is showing at whichever theatre(s) you can get to. What is your actual choice ?

Zebrasinpyjamas · 24/12/2023 15:48

Six and Guys and Dolls are on my list for next year. I liked but didn't love Matilda.

Retrievemysanity · 24/12/2023 15:50

I really enjoyed Les Mis, Moulin Rouge and Chicago.

Anjo2011 · 24/12/2023 15:50

Cabaret at the Kit Kat club, Jake Shears is Emcee. It’s a wonderful production in a fabulous setting.

yodaforpresident · 24/12/2023 15:53

Six, Back to the Future, Matilda and Hadestown - if it ever makes it to London! If South Pacific tours again I would also highly recommend that.

AgentProvocateur · 24/12/2023 15:53

Sunset boulevard at the savoy with Nicole Schertzinger. It’s brilliant! Failing that, Les Mis or Hamilton.

BingoMarieHeeler · 24/12/2023 15:54

Saw Hamilton last month and then watched it on Disney - live far far better and I find Lin Manuel Miranda’s voice irritating 🫢 The current London Alexander Hamilton is amazing!

Matilda is also amazing but obviously a very different beast.

Highly recommend Choir of Man but again different thing - short and gives you time to go out afterwards so a different type of evening! But brilliant.

modgepodge · 24/12/2023 15:54

from your list, I’ve seen Hamilton on Disney and didn’t love it - really expected to and was disappointed. I would still go see it live if I got the chance mind.

les mis is a classic, one of my favourites. I love Matilda too, have seen twice I think. I saw six for the first time recently and absolutely LOVED it. Have had the soundtrack on repeat since! Tickets were a present so no idea in cost, hubby who bought them probably considered the short run time a good thing rather than bad 😂 it is very short, but as I’m pregnant and exhausted this suited me perfectly.

Im no use clearly 😂

Hadestown better be bloody coming to
London - I have tickets for March!!

LemonLimeDivine · 24/12/2023 15:56

I saw Six a few weeks ago. Was amazing. Shorter than other musicals (1hr 20 - no interval) but I wanted to go straight back
and watch it again.

Houseplantmad · 24/12/2023 15:57

If you go to Hamilton, get stalls seats. We were upstairs and the sound was fire - couldn’t make out the lyrics. I didn’t enjoy the show at all.

SootspriteSearcher · 24/12/2023 16:03

I loved Wicked so not sure my opinion will help.

I really enjoyed matilda, the way they use the stage is really clever and when you think how young the cast is they are incredible. Go as far forward or middle aisle seats in the stalls if you can. Look at the lottery tickets, it took me a while but got front middle row seats in stalls for £25 each.

I saw six on tour, i didn't know much about it but was it absolutely incredible. I've had the soundtrack on repeat since. I'm also looking at tickets to take my daughter.

I really want to see frozen, my neighbour totoro, harry potter and the cursed child. And we are booking Elf for next Christmas.

SootspriteSearcher · 24/12/2023 16:07

Today tix app has £10 lottery tickets for Hamilton.

And they have some offers on at the moment for other shows.

rose69 · 24/12/2023 16:09

Operation Mincemeat.

nottodaytomorrow · 24/12/2023 16:12

Back to the future
Mrs Doubtfire
Operation mincemeat

All A-mazing Smile

Sunbird24 · 24/12/2023 16:13

Oh I want to see Operation mincemeat too!

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 24/12/2023 16:16

Frozen is surprisingly amazing and you can't go wrong with Les Mis.

StillWantingADog · 24/12/2023 16:17

Matilda if you have kids (and wouldn’t rule it out if you did)

I thought Hamilton was brilliant but I didn’t actually enjoy it that much. Quite hard to follow.

Les Mis is just brilliant
