Worst Hair Salon Experience...

I'll start. My normal hairdresser called in sick last Christmas Eve and the salon had to accommodate their clients. I was so grateful, but...
My head got scalded at the backwash. My earring was ripped and blood went everywhere.
My hair wasn't styled at all, just blowdried and dry snipped. It looked so flat, like I'd been out in the rain with a centre part and all even though I'd gone in with a side part.
And all that took FOUR hours.

I was at least able to salvage it when I got home but I tend to enjoy feeling like a million dollars having spent a lot for a hairdo.

Anyone else had a disaster?

Hairdresser put lightener on my hair - 10 mins later my hair started smoking.

Same hairdresser put my extensions in upside down so I was essentially back brushing my hair every time I brushed it.

Another time asked for copper lowlights and came out with bright red hair all over.

Oooh forgot the time the hairdresser left full scalp bleach on the back of my neck, so I needed steroids for the rash.

I have more….

3luckystars · 22/12/2023 23:18

Oh my god that’s awful!

I hate the hairdressers, I know some others find it relaxing but I feel really stressful and worry something will go wrong the entire time. I have been forgotten about and left with dye on my hair so many times, now I just do it myself at home.

EmmaEmerald · 22/12/2023 23:30

I got as far as your earring was ripped?! Are you okay?

they should compensate you, not take your money!

Nothing like as bad as previous posts, but there was a time when the hairdresser kept asking me 'what length do you prefer your fringe?' I kept telling her I didn't have a fringe, I had LAYERS (it was the late 90s). She hacked away - and left me looking like Dave Hill from Slade.
It was my 18th birthday & I cried all the way home.

Mmmmdanone · 22/12/2023 23:44

I have very curly hair and the stylist obvously had no clue how to dry it. I left the salon (because obviously i'm not actually going to say anything) looking like Ronald MaDonald.

Iamthatgenius · 22/12/2023 23:44

Yikes these are bad.

I was at the hairdresser earlier this week and was wondering if hairdressers remember that hair is actually attached to our heads. Like, we can feel when they pull and tug really roughly etc and it fucking hurts! I always cry in pain at the hairdresser and I'm not sure if I'm just a wuss?!

I ended up with with stripes earlier this week, it's all very 90s. But I've washed and restyled it and quite like it now. I do feel like for £150 and 4 hours of my life I should be a bit happier afterwards 🤔

Similar, back in the day of the Jennifer Aniston/Rachel sleek look, my ‘long layers’ request for my dead straight hair ended up with what would now be called a wolf cut. Thought I’d emerge with super glossy poker straight locks and ended up like a shaggy Suzy Quattro. It was the first and last time I ever wore my glasses rather than contacts to the hairdresser. And the only time I ever bailed on a friend’s birthday due to a bad hair day (trimester).

notgettinganyyounger · 22/12/2023 23:56

Ronald macdonald 🤣

smokingcarriageonly · 22/12/2023 23:58

A hairdresser once cut a bit of my ear off. I saw a small fleck of beige land on the cape and blood started dripping from my earlobe🩸

😱😱😱😱

what happened after that?

SparklyOwls · 23/12/2023 00:22

A hairstylist was rushing my haircut and then I got stabbed in the cheek with the scissors. It REALLY hurt, but being typically British I just sat there and said I was fine!

nancy75 · 23/12/2023 00:23

I’ve got curly hair, my request for layers to give it some shape turned in to a fringe - left the place looking like a very pissed off Glen Hoddle (the curly perm years)

HowNice23 · 23/12/2023 00:29

I wanted a bubble perm in the 80s - you know bouncy fluffy etc but ended up with a shaggy one that made me look like that dog from The Perishers. With a fringe. Cried all the way home.

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2023 00:44

Some of the above stories are awful!

One hairdresser somehow managed to spill bleach down my clothes. According to her, I was only upset because I was pregnant at the time and it was all to do with my hormones. I didn't go back.

I went to a trendy new salon and was persuaded that a dark streak in my hair would look fabulous, darling. I looked like a bloody badger. Never went back there either.

Another colour disaster, this time making me look like a stripy ginger cat. When I said I wasn't happy the salon fixed it immediately, with an all over red shade which looked fabulous. I still go there.

Mplpurple · 23/12/2023 01:17

Some of these are awful! I had bleach all over my collar too. They compensated me for it though.
I've also had the unexpected bill for 'treatments' I had one appointment after lockdown and found that £90 turned into £150.
My earring incident - they claimed it was fine and mopped it up. I was too stunned for words.
Happily, I have an amazing hair salon now and they do a great job every time. I went today and got exactly what I wanted.

what happened after that?

She was mortified. I applied pressure and she got me a plaster.
Ears bleed a lot, which I already knew because I used to be a hairdresser and have nipped an ear or two (sorry Mum). But I've never actually cut off a bit that went flying, that was next level.

happinessischocolate · 23/12/2023 14:40

I was 18 and a friend had permed my bleach blonde hair, a month or so later it had gone a bit frizzy but I didn't particularly care, I was 18, but after mum nagging me I went to the hairdressers to have a trim and she cut every single bit of curly permed hair off!

By the time I realised how much she was cutting off it was too late. I went in with longer than shoulder length hair and came out with practically a mullet! And I paid

I hate hairdressers

FlyingCherub · 23/12/2023 14:49

I used to avoid hairdressers on saturdays due to the noise levels but they changed my colour appointment once and had no choice. A saturday girl rinsed/washed my hair but by the time I got home, my neck was on fire and I ended up having to wash it again standing with water running under the shower for about 10 minutes to make sure it was all out. Colour poured off it initially Hmm

Had the most horrendous reaction to the colour, needed anti-histamines and steroid cream from the GP. I complained, and they didn't want to know. Never went back.

GreenPencil · 23/12/2023 15:00

Mine is nowhere near as bad as some of these! 😮 at all the snipped ears and bleach burns!

I’ve got thick wavy hair and had been growing it out for ages so it was almost bra strap-length, no layers, a kind of ‘blank canvas’ hairwise.

I decided to treat myself to a really nice cut at a trendy/expensive hairdresser I hadn’t been to before. She cut into all of the waves and thinned it out, repeatedly asking whether I straightened my hair (and being told no). I really wish I’d said something, but of course I did the British thing and paid and left! The waves still haven’t recovered, it’s just a flicky-out mess, and it’ll take an age to grow out all the layers.

I really wish hairdressers could do curly/wavy hair!

HolllyHobby · 23/12/2023 15:08

Hairdresser above me chatting away and chewing gum

Two minutes later, gum falls out of her mouth and ends up in my hair.

I was delighted of course

Echobelly · 23/12/2023 15:09

Nothing terrible but when I've had bob cuts some salons do insist on drying it like old-lady helmet hair, which is very not me!

starfishmummy · 23/12/2023 15:51

Usual mobile hairdresser, who had been doing my hair for years. No mirror to see what is going on - and tbh without my glasses on I wouldn't be able to see

She gave me layers. I don't have layers. Then when I washed and styled it myself I realised it was cut lopsidededly. So spent several weeks with it tied back or in a hat. So on the next appointment I asked her to level the two sides as one side was longer than the other. She totally denied that this was anything to do with her and was apparently my fault for styling with a middle parting when she had cut it with a side parting. She hadn't. I'd had a middle parting long before she started cutting my hair!

superplumb · 23/12/2023 15:53

A few.
Too blonde so it was whitw
Not blonde enough so it went orange
In the 90s I wanted a Jennifer anniston colour on my hair, they turned it khaki green

Had a loose perm which turned out tight perm like an old ladies.
Hair extensions, double wefted woman double up the rows so equivalent of 4 rows of hair on my head. Within 24 hours my scalp was bleeding

Now I have a good hairdresser, she can't do anything drastic but she's safe to get what I always get done

Sherrystrull · 23/12/2023 15:59

Twice

I have long, thick, wavy hair. It was cut into long layers. Looked like an unfortunate mullet.

Years later I had my hair curled for a wedding. It was always. Frizzy, uneven, tons of hairspray and looked awful. I went straight home and washed it out.

christmaspawpaws · 23/12/2023 16:03

Yeah they did this to my hair. Random lengths, the lot
I grew it and grew it and went to a specialist curly hairdresser and the result is pic 2
