Worst Hair Salon Experience...

I'll start. My normal hairdresser called in sick last Christmas Eve and the salon had to accommodate their clients. I was so grateful, but...
My head got scalded at the backwash. My earring was ripped and blood went everywhere.
My hair wasn't styled at all, just blowdried and dry snipped. It looked so flat, like I'd been out in the rain with a centre part and all even though I'd gone in with a side part.
And all that took FOUR hours.

I was at least able to salvage it when I got home but I tend to enjoy feeling like a million dollars having spent a lot for a hairdo.

Anyone else had a disaster?

I had grown my hair to halfway down my back, but had layers and a bit of a mullety haircut (not through choice), so the length started a long way behind my ears. I bit the bullet and asked my hairdresser to cut it all one length, and it was cut to just below my shoulders. I visited her the next time and she asked how I’d got in with it and I raved about how much I loved it now it was all one length. Anyway, she cut it and I didn’t notice until I’d got home (as it remained a bit feathered around the front), but she’d cut the mullety layers back in, so I’d lost all my length for nothing. I complained and she denied it and said she’s never cut layers into someone’s hair who hadn’t asked for it. I had to go elsewhere and have it cut all one length again, and this time it was to my neck as that was where the shortest layer was 😭

This one is not a disaster with my hair, although that wasn't great either, more a revolting experience. A few years ago, I was living abroad in a country with a lot of street cats. I liked a colleague's hair and asked where she got her hair cut. I went to the salon, which was run by a couple and their young daughter. I saw street cats inside, and was not concerned as I love animals and fed cats myself. I sat down to wait and a cat was on the next chair. Not long after, it hopped off and left a good few squirming tapeworm segments behind on the seat. I pointed this out to the daughter as tactfully as I could, and she just flounced and said 'We're used to it,' and looked daggers at me. Then an old lady came in and sat on all the segments! Being British instead of just leaving, I continued with my haircut, thoroughly disgusted.

My worst was in the 80s, first time I went for a perm. The idiot permed it and then cut it. Came out like a haystack, no curl at all. Second worst was a rubbish trim, a couple of years ago. Took forever to grow out.

Worst I've seen was what an idiot did to my mum's hair. She has shortish, wavy hair. Asked for a trim and this fool (who I suspect had never cut a woman's hair) took to it with an electric razor! He gave her a buzz cut. Only mercy was that I jumped in before he got to the crown.

As a salon owner myself of 24 years can I just tell you. We aren't perfect. We all make mistakes. We try 100% all day to live up to impossible expectations. We go all day without eating or drinking because clients are late. We hurt in every part of our body and cry in pain when we get home. We listen to you cry, listen to your problems. Take those feelings home with us so we don't sleep. Worry about everything being perfect all the time. Worry about the earrings that get knocked down the sink, that the client shouldn't be wearing. Or the necklace that catches on the comb, don't wear one, or the brand new white top youre wearing which now has a drop of black colour on it, why wear that. About time you realised how hard our job is every day. So have a bit of respect and consideration when a mistake is made as you all make mistakes too. Be kind!
