Mad Friday. Is this Scottish?

I'm 41 and since I was a child mad Friday has been HUGE here.

Most people break up for Christmas, the pubs busiest night of the year by a mile.

I was a court solicitor for many years and tonight was the worst night to be duty. Tomorrow's custody court is a nightmare.

Is the last Friday before Christmas known as this everywhere. DH and nephews and friends all out tonight.

Was just thinking about it.

Mad Friday here, North West. Picked DS up at 9 as he said it was rammed and unpleasant in town

I've never heard of it either.

(I was born and brought up in Somerset but have lived for the last 40 years in London or the South East).

I’m in Scotland and heard our local radio station talking about Black Friday and Mad Friday but never heard it called either of them before.

Forgot about Black Friday, that's right that's what we would have called it when I was younger.

Spoke to an ex colleague. Over twenty in custody. Glad I'm not there.

It was definitely about the trades finishing before Christmas.

Interesting it was last week in some places.
