............ as well as using up odds and ends in the fridge and freezer before the big day?
We had a mish-mash tea with Jacket spuds, Salad and he had the last frikadellen while I had tuna mayo.
I have used the last of defrosted frozen pastry to use up the remaining half jar of mincemeat to make mince pies and a mince tart.
Will take my elderly neighbour some salad bits in tomorrow as she lives alone and it's not worth her buying a full lettuce, tomatoes etc etc as well as couple of mince pies.
We used the last of our frozen fish last night with chips and mushy peas last night and took a portion next door. Diced two peppers and threw the bags in the freezer before they went soft.
The sweets are out but we have only had a couple each, cracked open the full fat Fanta Orange (cos we like it!!) DH also cracked a few nuts this afternoon while watching a movie.
I had already hit the mulled wine last week - microwaves were made for this!! Right?!!
Now do I crack open the Baileys Cream to go with a mince pie???

Yes we are on our second batch of shop bought various mince pies. Different flavours

Need to get more tomorrow

Toesaresoweird · 22/12/2023 20:42

@Caspianberg oh yes I've been sampling mine....every day this week!

I've had all the marshmallow brownie type truffles I was meant to be saving. Bloody all of them.

I've broken into the cheese selection and the crackers. I've had to hide the box of roses because I can't be trusted with them. I haven't eaten the special crisps so I am behaving.

The christmas food started for me as soon as work was done for the year (yesterday) I sat on the sofa by myself this evening with a glass of fizz in a christmas glass, some salmon terrine/smoked salmon blinis and followed it up by opening both a box of quality street, and a box of M&S biscuits with a tea. Absolute heaven, it's there to be enjoyed IMO. We've got a few things open now - various nuts, various chocolates and the obligatory twiglets tubs and so on.

I struggle to get too excited about the roast dinner aspect of christmas - it's nice and I certainly don't complain but for me it's all about the snacky bits and pieces.

Yes. We started eating Christmas food at the beginning of December. Several boxes of mince pies, a box of fancy biscuits, a box of Heroes. Some homemade biscuits, muffins and cakes. DS has started on the Christmas cheese, too.

DH usually gets given a load of stuff from work. We keep some and put some in the foodbank.

WallaceinAnderland · 22/12/2023 22:00

Of course. It's treat week!

BobnLen · 22/12/2023 22:09

Yes, started the chocolates, we have had mince pies for a while now, Christmas cake also started. I bought a Waitrose Buche de Noel and that is calling me every time I open the fridge.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 22/12/2023 22:18

My diet is 80 per cent cheese

reluctantbrit · 22/12/2023 22:35

We start with Lebkuchen, Stollen and Spekelatius (spiced biscuits) as soon as the 1st Advent hits. Mince pies as well but that is often a week or so earlier when I buy some to send to my PIL in Germany.

Chocolates - a bit here and there as St. Nikolaus comes on the 6th December and brings some.

Nuts come out in December as well.

Proper food wise - it's only 3 of us so I don't buy a lot, we normally don't have leftovers and it does fit in the fridge so the freezer only gets additional ice cream.

My diet is 80 per cent cheese

i believe that if my body isn't 80% cheese by 1st Jan, I've failed xmas

DelilahBucket · 22/12/2023 23:29

Oh yes! Snowballs and a picky tea to try out party food offerings made an appearance last weekend. Baileys was opened a few days ago for hot chocolate purposes. Tonight out came the prosecco cocktails and stollen because we've both finished work and no one has to drive in the morning 😁. Another picky tea with a cheeseboard and pate theme tomorrow!

Ebokebok · 22/12/2023 23:40

Yes! Breakfast was crumpets, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and bucks fizz. Tea was mince pies, jelly babies and white wine. The dog had some salmon quiche too. I've now had a sleeping pill and am off to the land of nod shortly. This pattern will repeat for the next few days but with more Cinzano in the mix 🥂

LightSpeeds · 22/12/2023 23:49

Yeah. Yule Logs!

notgettinganyyounger · 22/12/2023 23:59

Cheese footballs and a box of chocs

Ambi · 23/12/2023 00:04

I had my first mince pie of the year today so I guess so. Normally I'm on mince pies and gluhwein from November.

Hazey19 · 22/12/2023 18:44

Oooh I like this thread. Yes I cleaned the fridge out today ready for the big shop being delivered tonight. We had a stir fry with the odds and sods for tea and we ve been eating the chocolates and drinking the baileys for weeks!

@Hazey19

like 52 of them?!?!

caringcarer · 23/12/2023 00:34

I've eaten the pigs in blanket crisps. I just thought I'd try them and wow they were amazing.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/12/2023 00:35

Quality Street, you say?
Never heard of them.

RubyRubyRubyRubay · 23/12/2023 02:48

I already one of the two jars of chutney I made along with the Port Salut and 2 bottles of bucksfizz this week.

Have had to buy more Port Salut 😶

Monkeybutt1 · 23/12/2023 08:29

We've been on the Baileys and mulled wine for a couple of weeks now. Cracked open the Hotel Chocolat wreath box on Wednesday, we all finished for Xmas that day.
We have friends round later for a buffet as it's DH's birthday on Xmas day so it's full on Xmas food today. 😋

Holly2285 · 23/12/2023 08:33

I started eating my chocolate orange last night..but apart from that we haven't eaten anything bought for a Christmas..although I am about to go collect the massive Christmas shop

Rainbow1901 · 23/12/2023 08:38

Lovely to see all the replies and to get an insight into how people enjoy and spend their Christmas. I am tempted to buy some of the things that are regular things in other homes just because I've never tried them.
The Baileys Cream with Mince Pies went down well - but I'd be just as happy spooning down the cream on its own - yummy!! Merry Christmas!! 🤗

Yes! We have to eat Christmas food, there's no room in the fridge for any other kind right now. And after once looking at the pitiful face of my hungry child wailing "well what CAN we eat??" while standing in front of a fridge heaving with food that was earmarked for Christmas, I thought I better change my approach 😆

It does mean I'm making another batch of sticky date pudding today though as the last lot has been scarfed down... but that's a problem I'm very happy to live with!

Toomuch44 · 23/12/2023 09:14

We've already had stolen cake and mince pies, but I bought them intending to have them before xmas. DH has already had two slices of a small Xmas cake (he never wants to wait). Only two of us that eat it and I'm tempted to cut my half off so there's actually some left for me after Xmas if I want it.

Doggymummar · 23/12/2023 09:16

I'm on my sixth bottle of Bailey's since November, second Tia Maria countless mince pies. I never understood people saying it's just one day, it's about ten weeks here

sashh · 23/12/2023 09:32

I don't celebrate Xmas but we had some party fruit for solstice.
