Who's broken their little toe ?

toepain · 21/12/2023 20:55

I smashed my toes off a wooden toy box earlier on, I was climbing over it at the time and that's how I managed to whack my foot. Bloody hurt as stubbing your toes always does.
But now it's throbbing, looks slightly swollen and I'm hobbling about. I've had a feel and it's the base of the toe where it's most painful, I can move it but it is painful.
It especially hurts if I try and lift my toes up. Also strangely it hurts if I lift my entire foot off the ground slightly, could this be a slight fracture or just bruised it ? I know nothing can be done if it is broken.
Never had this off stubbing toes before though it's really painful.

I have. But it was just the toe. I was running within two weeks. DD did hers at 14 and could walk to school in a week.
If you really are in agony you might have damaged more than just the toe. Don't muck about with potential weight bearing breaks.

StBrides · 21/12/2023 20:58

Me. Hurts like Billy oh

Ibuprofen will help with inflammation.

Wear comfy shoes and you can protect it with medical tape and padded gauze/cotton wool.

emmylousings · 21/12/2023 21:01

Yes, bashing it against a rock while running about a on a beach. Agonising initially, healed quickly on it's own. No point in getting medical attention, theres nothing to be done except what others have suggested.

Twice. First time I only found out about when I did it the second time, they noticed an old break, so I’d obviously not realised.

It was tender for a very very long time but nothing can be done. Just rest and pain killers.

AuditAngel · 21/12/2023 21:08

I also managed to displace the end of my toe when I did it, felt much better when I relocated the end piece! My bruised immediately. I found wearing Birkenstocks was the only thing that helped, as it meant my toe didn’t bend

Elderflower14 · 21/12/2023 21:09

I tripped over going through the front door at speed. I flew through the air and landed in a heap at the bottom of the stairs!!! Little toe hurt me for ages!!!

Magicisuponus · 21/12/2023 21:10

Yes, once , years ago.
Mine had to be set as it stood at an awkward angle. Very painful for about 2/3 days, then the pain and swelling started to reduce and within maybe 7-10 days I was quite ok again.

PatFussy · 21/12/2023 21:13

Not my little toe but the one next to it. I did it on the corner of the landing going to the toilet before bed. I knew it was bad when it still hurt in the morning!

It swelled like a little chipolata and my toe and up my foot went purple! Was really painful and took about 2 months to heal!

SugarPlumpFairy3 · 21/12/2023 21:13

Yes I was rushing and caught my little toe on the leg of the bed. I could see through my sock that it was displaced and my immediate reaction was to push it back 🤢. However when I took my sock off, it was sticking out at a sickening angle. I promptly fainted!

Had to go to hospital to have it pulled back but afterwards it was surprisingly not painful, with hardly any bruising.

seagull82 · 21/12/2023 21:24

Me, after a few days of throbbing I gave in and went to A&E, It was actually dislocated and they had to wiggle it back into the socket.

QuestionableMouse · 21/12/2023 21:25

Broke both a couple of times. Also broke my foot stubbing my toes. Worth popping for an xray if you have a local urgent care.

toepain · 21/12/2023 21:29

Annoying little digits !
Would it have bruised by now if it was broken?

OP posts:
mynameiscalypso · 21/12/2023 21:32

Me. I had no idea until it was noted in an MRI.

GettingColdFeet · 21/12/2023 21:36

Suspected break catching it on a metal bed leg while on holiday. Didn't look out of alignment, so just taped it to the one next to it and wore flip flops for a couple of days (couldn't bear anything touching it), then moved to wearing berkenstocks. My toe and the bit of my foot nearest bruised (took a day or so to come up)

No lasting issues.

OCaledonia · 21/12/2023 21:41

Yes I broke my little toe and then got an infection in it. Probably self inflicted as I was wearing open toe sandals and went on the allotment.
Went to a and e as I could see a red line tracking up from my toe and it was hot and swollen (my GP refused to see me when I mentioned a broken toe..all I needed was antibiotics)
Had an x-ray and antibiotics, my toe nail and a bit of skin like a toe glove came off a few weeks later.

nildesparandum · 21/12/2023 21:41

I did this a month ago.I got up for the toilet during the night, then on the way back stubbed my little toe against the bedpost
Hurt like hell for 2 weeks went swollen then blue.Back to normal now.

unkownone · 21/12/2023 21:43

Just got over breaking mine..on an exercise mat 🤣 I’ve been breaking it for many years. I usually do it on the most stupid things. Carpet, just sitting in couch, the wheels on our bag when travelling..exercise mat 🙄. After I break it, it easily breaks so I’ll get a few breaks a year. I had 2 years of no toe break til last month- my longest time ever of no toe breaks. After last one I have not jokingly said I want it removed. It is a pain to constantly break it.

SD1978 · 21/12/2023 21:53

Twice, and my daughter once. Hard soled show to walk in. You can buy one of those shoes if you want from a chemist, but they can throw your hip out a bit on the other side as they are inevitably a bit higher that your own shoe is. If you want to get it X-rayd, fair enough, I always do purely to check it's a straight forward # and not in a couple of bits, and then the hard soled show for 6 weeks

biter · 21/12/2023 21:55

Yep. Kicked something solid whilst carrying plates of food for a table full of small children. Hurt like hell but I couldn't swear 😂

It took a while to heal but did so without medical interventions. It went a lovely black colour.

It can help to strap it to the toe next door.

Happy limping Christmas 🤶

shewithnoname · 21/12/2023 21:56

gosh i've broken both my little toes so many times they are so misshaped now i can't remember what they are supposed to look like.

i used to be a runner.. just strap em up and off you go!

Scampuss · 21/12/2023 21:56

Lots of times, I just buddy tape it until it no longer hurts.

Mrs86 · 21/12/2023 22:05

I've broken 3 now. Both my little toes. Smashed one a metal sofa leg and 1 on my wooden panel of the bath (not at the same time) and middle one most recently. It hurt for a good few weeks. Was bruised black and blue. I went to the walk in centre this time though because it was very clearly bent out of place after smacking it into a wooden door frame (my job entails a lot of walking, so needed to be sure). The nurse just told me not to put weight on it and gave me some sticky tape to strap it to the nearby toe. Recent cold weather has been making it ache. Find some loose shoes if you can and keep it elevated to keep swelling down when you can. I found that ibuprofen and paracetamol together kept it from being too painful.

Hedonism · 21/12/2023 22:08

I broke mine in the summer. It still hurts in the evening, 6 months on 😭

nepthysrising · 21/12/2023 22:21

Me. Repeatedly. And other toes. It hurts like the devil, and it's painful to lift up your foot or any part of it. Rest and ice as much as you can. Try not to weight bear where possible (I prepared food in the kitchen with my knee and lower leg resting on the seat of a dining chair). Very bad luck on the timing 😔Hope you get better very soon
